Just heard that former FMW and All Japan Wrestler Hirokei Takahra passed away at the age of 57 from a massive stroke. He had some great feuds over the years and was the innovator of the Rice Bomb. I know DLVH is going to be very upset by this.

This is a huge loss. His feud with Shinjo Takaya in 1985 was legendary. I think he may have rassled Bobby Jaggers once. RIP.

Yeah I recall All Japan doing a North American tour around that time. I believe Takahara was trained by legendary Puroseau trainer Nobohiro Yamahashi.

Remember when he wrestled Stan Hansen for the IWGP strap back in 88. What a brutal war.

Yeah I was pretty shocked when Terry Gordy interfered.

DLVH you must have some memories. You're the book on this.

I can't wait for his stories. He's the biggest jap fan here.

His career seemed to take a rough turn when he joined FMW and started feuding with Mr.Pogo. that was a rough style. Lots of blood spilled.

I thought DLVH made this thread when I saw it.

Jesus, he's going to be devastated when he finds out. Poor little buddy.

A member of the original UWF roster in Japan back in '84 if I remember correctly. So sad. RIP.

There was also that run he had with the AWA championship when the AWA was doing interpromotional stuff with Japan, him and Bockwinkle had an epic technical affair. A little slower compared to Japanese standards, but a psychological masterpiece. Bockwinkel's work on the knee was particularly astounding.

I remember that. That was around the infamous AWA title run of Otto Wanz of the CWA. I have to think Gagne basically screwed Takahara out of the title right there.

I'm planning on burying my limited edition Takahara figure in my backyard today.

Which Takahara action figure did you have? I had the knife edge chop action Takahara released in 1991 but always wanted the spinning heel action Takahara released a year and 2 months earlier.

I didn't have the action figure but I had his sushi making kit. His fav sushi was the spicy tuna roll and that was also the name of his turnbuckle dive. RIP.

I never realized how big this guy was. Like I saw a few tapes with him on them, and thought he was pretty good, just didnt realize the depth of his career.

I thought it was the name of his double-team move with Miroki Yamamoto.

Still, RIP.

BREAKING NEWS: I've just received word that Hirokei Takahara was reported as dead is still alive. He didn't have a stroke. It was his brother (Piston Honda) that passed away. The toyko daily news reported that b/c Japanese look alike this kind of thing happens all the time.
