Holy fuck. What a match. Never been so impressed with someone right out of the gate.

I've been so fucking underwhelmed by The Shield since they showed up. Roman Reigns looks like an absolute fucking airhead who never knows what he should say or where he should be, and "Dean Ambrose" is a name with an intimidation factor along the lines of "Todd Milk" or "Chad Huggins". It's so stupidly weak.

That said, holy fuck at that match.

Heck of a fun match but yeah, like. I said before, they faced two former world champs and a friggen monster. This match shouldn't have been competitive.

Chad Huggins was Parsons champ back in 2011 and he was very intimidating.

Why? JBL put it best during the match, The Shield was just working together better than the other team.

It'd be pretty boring if everything went by the book. In fact it's been pretty boring for many years watching wrestling being booked this way.

When Ryback took them 3 on 1 The Sheild would barely get the upper hand. You throw in the tag team champions, who should be able to work as a unit, and it seems like it would be a squash match.

What I don't get, is why didn't Ryback, after tossing whoever it was through those tables, run back into the ring and help break up the pin on Bryan.

The ending seemed a little "clusterfucky" to me. Other than that, great match, best PPV of the year by far.

He got the shit kicked out of him during the match. So I guess he was trying to sell that. Clearly not convincingly enough. He did well in the match, he knows what he's doing in the ring. Obviously not a top caliber technical guy or anything, but he's a pro.

Generally, wrestlers will sometimes sell when they've been through a tough match.

This excludes Cena.

They mostly sell their injuries... mostly.

Can't think of a group but probably Taz(z) in terms of a ppv debut match. Crowd was just as loud and the match against Angle was them going back and forth with the suplexes during the period of Angle claiming he was the best at them.

Why?

Because 3 undersized newbies who look like car wash attendants just beat the Tag Team chamions and RYBACK who has destroyed everybody.

In Lord of the Rings, Gandalf could have just flown his giant eagle thing over to the lava and dropped the ring in.

The eye would have seen him!

I did not mind the outcome really. I can just understand the logic of them being squashed. Hoping Ryback gets a 1 on 1 match with on Raw though to get him some momentum going.

If they're serious about pushing them, that was probably the right way to book the match.

I just don't think they should be all that serious about pushing them other than Ambrose who could be a perfect "mastermind/evil genius" type.

I wouldn't be too concerned with them pushing them as individuals, this is all about the group as a whole. As soon as the group disbands the individuals will probably flounder for the most part. Just like The Nexus.

The Nexus is mostly green folks with a couple of gems.

The Shield has 3 guys in it, and the greenest of them is still pretty damned good.

Kinda weird how successful NXT season 1 was.

Don't let #1-wwf-fan let you hear that!

I am yet to see this match, but while it does seem a mis-match on paper, I think if people are going to buy The Shield as threats, they needed to show that they can hang with some big names.

If you need a kayfabe explanation as to why they were able to win against Ryback and the Tag Champs, you can always point to that unknown quality they have. Ryback, Kane & Bryan could not prepare effectively because they were essentially up against ghosts, while their work is well publicised. Plus, there is that chemistry factor. And the fact that The Shield have been attacking these guys for weeks and Triple Powerbombing them to heck.

Also, Seth Rollins will have potential as a Jeff Hardy-like babyface. This heel run will show what he can do as a gloomy and serious personality before people get behind him and he starts to move merchandise. If Roman Reigns keeps improving and doesn't upset anyone with silly antics, he will be pushed as a huge star. It'll just be whether or not his natural charisma is enough to make it stick. Dean Ambrose will be able to sell himself, and is likely to get a nice run as a top heel that causes havoc for some folks.

Can't see any member of this group "failing" to be honest. Especially with them now being pushed so strongly out the gate. Hopefully more impressive NXT talent gets the opportunity to step onto the big stage if these guys prove the model to work.
