The thing you controlled was green.
She's pretty sure the guy slid.
It was a single player game.
She thinks the game took place in a kitchen.

I remember the 2nd or 3rd level of Zool with the musical instruments was all messed up. The sound would get all crackled and fade in and out. I dunno, for $15 I shouldn't complain but bad game is bad.

So I've got this one that has a chance of being it.

Whirlo/Xandra's Big Adventure/Xandra No Daibouken

I don't think it was released in the US but who knows? Shit happens.
Either way, it does have the side-scrolling Kirby style, without the sucking and taking powers

You can make him slide
Single-player.
However, the only thing I remember about a kitchen is in the opening.

Both of you should check it out, even if it's not the game. It may help rehash some of the memory.
