View Full Version : Is it time that Michael McGillicutty.......

..... Was allowed to be Joe Hennig? It's been 10 years since Mr. Perfect left us, and with the praise he's been getting backstage do you think that appearing as Joe Hennig could be the start of a major push for him? Do you think he deserves it?
Discuss.

I have no issues with him off my television to be honest. He was dull his first go around.

Do you put that down to his gimmick (or lack of) or wrestling ability?

<font color=goldenrod>Even if they don't totally let him go with his real name, Michael Hennig would be an improvement. I'm not even sure why they didn't just do that to start with. His whole deal on NXT was that he was Mr. Perfect's son, yet they stuck him with Michael McGillicutty which is just simply a terrible name.</font>

I put it on I did not enjoy seeing him on my television. That goes for all aspects. Now, I would enjoy him if he was made into someone I liked, or hated(in a good sense). He just never seemed like he would be anything special before.

That's a fair view.

The young guys are all pretty decent in the ring. I don't understand why they are so against them having any personality.
The biggest recent example was Heath Slater...just giving him something to do (beat up by legends with 30 second quips beforehand) has made him a really good character in my opinion, and most people had written him off beforehand.
It is lazy writing to not give these guys something. What harm could it do giving him a go with the name and a gimmick similar to his father and seeing if it could catch on. He is his son, so I don't even think it's a question of whether he deserves it or not. Am sure his father would want to have him succeed, so would hardly be adverse to giving him the rub if he was alive.

The tag team with Otunga was abhorrent and it probably left a bad taste in some people's mouths. However, a comeback is nothing new in the industry and I can see him using his family ties to at least get a shot but its up to him whether or not he can make it work and last.

They referred to him as Joe Hennig in the latest nWo DVD when he was discussing memories of his father. I'd be down for a Perfect 2.0 gimmick.

He should be Mr. Imperfect and he can botch moves and miss the gum swat.

He has none of his fathers charisma, and he has a generic look.
His in ring ability is decent, but nothing special.
I'm for the name change, but against giving him the Mr. Perfect gimmick

What Juan just said.
He has ring ability, and visible intensity/charisma. It unfortunately doen't translate into him being a better talker.
To me, it would kind of be like if Rey Rey had a son of wrestling age now, and he grew to about the size of The Great Khali. You can't put the mask and question marks on THAT and expect the same spectacle... but they could acknoledge his wrestling lineage and still have him be more of a monster than a luchador.
He's a different beast enough to not have to play into how popular his dad was. Hell, they could even play up him "having a mean-streak like his grandfather" or something to that effect.
Instead of being "unsuccessful" with his Perfect Plex attempts, he could just use it as a signature or part of his "go home" combiniation/ (5 moves of doom) and not keep it cradled for the pin, as a homage to his dad without 100% aping it (kind of like Teddy with Dream Street... it starts with a nod to the Million Dollar Dream). He can still go on to use his neckbreaker. Or even something else.
And (cheap shot) he deserves it more than Bo Dallas.
Agreed there was a reason Curt Henning was called Mr.Perfect.

Yeah Mr. Perfect gimmick would be going too far, and wouldn't work. DiBiase Jr anyone?

Mr. Good Enough
I still want a Hennig/DiBiase tag team (Perfect Business?).
I like the guy but right now is not the time to bring him back up to the main roster. Everything is far too crowded that there are a number of established guys that I can't see getting on the main Mania card this year. The tag division however, seems to be falling apart at the seams (no more Rhodes Scholars, imminent split of Hell No, rumours of a PTP split) so he/they could do a job there.

Did they give him the crappy name just to avoid giving him the exposure in case he was bundled off to TNA?

Bring him back as "Average" Joe Hennig. You could have him try and recreate all his fathers's sports feats, and fail miserably.

He's so friggen boring that it would make no difference. He's Lance Storm without the wrestling ability

He needs a repackage, there's nothing to his gimmick other than the daft name. McGillicutty makes him sound like a pirate, I would probably enjoy watching him more if he was a pirate.

Loved Mr Perfect but thought McGillicutty was one of the most boring wrestlers I ever watched. I had high hopes for him when I heard who he was, but bored that crap outta me.

Yes, he should be Joe Hennig.
They should pair him up with Ted Dibiase Jr as a tag team, have a good run as tag team champions, and see what happens. Basically see it as a "restart" to both of their careers, reintroducing them to the WWE Universe.

He said on NXT he chose his mothers maiden name as his ring name so he wouldn't be living off of his fathers name.

Well, off to Plan B, because Plan A clearly didn't work.

His mothers maiden name isn't actually McGillicutty, that line was just an attempt to explain giving him a randomly generated ring name.

Cody Rhodes (http://www.wrestlenewz.com/wrestling/wwe-news/cody-rhodes-talks-tag-team-wrestling-in-wwe-hating-hennigs-name-and-more/) had this to say on the topic
“He’s like a hot button issue because he’s obviously really talented and he has his legacy and Mr. Perfect was who he was. I always looked at it and I think I’m wrong cause I don’t know anything other than what anyone else would know in this situation. I always looked at it as that “Boy Named Sue” type of thing and if he could move forward with such a silly name then he really was worth his weight. I don’t know if he looks at it…that’s just the philosophy I had on it.
It is such a bad name. But there is, certain guys have certain magic and I don’t mean to bring myself up on here but this crowd today is chanting Cody’s mustache. I feel like if my mustache is getting a certain reaction then I’m doing something right. And this type of thing when I think about Joe, if I had put together a stable of young second generations it would be Joe Henning. I don’t, at this point, I don’t know if it will ever be Joe Henning.
Hopefully Cody will continue to join in with discussions here at TPWW.net/forums over Wrestlemania season.

Was pretty stupid to deny him using his actual last name since it would have helped him more than McGillicutty and stating he had to earn the "Hennig" name when they rarely did that type of thing with anyone else.
Most who has past family connections either got to use the name right away (ex. Orton) or they tied the current name with the family name (ex. The Rock). Everyone else never got their family past mentioned to make sure no connections were made.

There's a bunch of 2nd/3rd gen stars either already called up or on the verge, why not bunch a few together as a stable, at least if only one or two in the group are getting matches the rest get some exposure at ringside/backstage.
It is odd that Rhodes, DiBiase, Orton, etc. all got to use their name and family legacy whereas Hennig has been denied that chance.

I agree with the repackage but not with the pirate .Everyone knows he's Mr. perfect's kid ,they should build him up as to start having a winning streak like his dad did then only he loses at WrestleMania for the championship. Also like the Idea of Flair being his manager/mouthpiece that would be great considering Mr.Perfect was with Flair when Flair came to WWE.

He's a good wrestler and let's face it he's not Mr. Perfect when it comes to charisma but he does have enough to make it at least as part of team since DiBiase doesn't really appear to be doing anything they should reunite The Forunate Sons.

Legacy 2.0 stable could work..... Cody as the main eventer, Hennig & DiBiase as the midcarders, Jake Carter (Vader's kid) as the "young gun" and perhaps Reigns as the muscle should The Shield ever break up.... could even throw in The Rotunda's as a tag team if need be.....
