Dunno. I was too young to really judge/care about anything other than the fact he had a snake.

Number 3 on my all time favorite list but I'm not kidding myself. His physique never went over a 6 and to be really fair he spent half of his wwf days as a 4 or lower. 6 is way more fair on the whole.

In ring ability/move set: I'd say 6 for move set. He was never known for his technical ability but I agree that he was better than average.
look/physique: 7 I don't like when people say he "never had a good body in wrestling" He's around 6 ft 4 and in his prime was a lean 230 lbs. I know alot of workers and I'm sure Daniel Bryan would love to be 6 ft 4.
finisher: 10 he created the DDT, nuff said
on the mic: 8 Chilling promos, had his own style on the mic, could easily still be a stand out in wrestling today
character development: 8 He came up with the heelish "Snake" gimmick, and had a solid run in 96 as a face.
Overall: 39/50

8 for mic skills? That's too low in my book. The dude basically invented the cold and whispering promo style while everyone else yelled and flexed their muscles and vocal chords. He was innovative and before his time in some aspects hence why he deserves a top shelf review. In my humble opinion of course.

He was great on the mic, but I was taking into account versitility on the mic too. For me, a 10 would be a person who could be cold and dark but just as good being energetic and exciting.

His physique was perfect for the character. He wasn't a muscle bound meathead. He actually did bulk up once and Vince was like "If we wanted Hulk Hogan with a snake we would have given him a snake."
10/10 everything.
HOF GOAT.

Jake is an all-time fav of mine and his promos and character were the reason why. His body wasn't THAT different from a lot of guy in the 80's early 90's save for the main players like Savage, Hogan, Warrior and Rude. He invented the DDT and wrecked Savages wedding reception. Dude is around a 45 or 46.

His body fit him perfectly. I'm not saying that. I'm saying just as a whole in the scheme of things..he wasn't small he wasn't big....5 is average size (daniel bryan or cm punk) so Jake would be 1 point after that. Fit him perfectly.
I'd say the same for Ted DiBiase which is another all time favorite.

In ring ability/moveset - 10/10
Jake "The Snake" is known throughout the world for inventing the DDT. There is no one man more responsible for one move than Roberts. More people associate the term DDT with wrestling than they ever will with a pesticide. He also had a gutbuster, clothesline, and kneelift. Roberts was able to tell a story in the ring like no one else. Whether it was his rivalry with Macho Man, his King of the Ring run with Steve Austin, or a Philadelphia house show with Vader, no one could do it like Jake. Throughout his career he was known for his intense and cerebral promos, his dark charisma, his extensive use of psychology in his matches, and has been credited as inventor of the DDT.
Look/Physique - 10/10
Jake started in a time where wrestlers weren't the fucking Adonis bodies that are famous today. He was blue collar, had a beer gut, but was incredibly strong. His mustache/mullet look was huge for the southern wrestling population. Plus he was one of the first wrestlers to tell the story of his gimmick by his wrestling attire. His green tights with the snake wrapped around the leg and his snakeskin boots are among the best ever.
Finisher - 10/10
Like I said. The guy invented the DDT. Fuck your favorite wrestler's finishing move.
On the Mic - 10/10
I'll let Jake do the fucking talking here....

Character Development - 10/10
He could work incredible as a face or a heel. He officially turned face when he feuded with The Honky Tonk Man, a heel with an Elvis impersonator gimmick. The Honky Tonk Man attacked Roberts with a guitar during his interview segment The Snake Pit. In reality, The Honky Tonk Man's guitar shot legitimately injured Roberts' neck. The shot was prior to the use of gimmicked breakable guitars, so it caused a legitimate injury. The Honky Tonk Man denies that he legitimately injured Roberts, although Jimmy Hart, as well as a video of the incident (seen on the Pick Your Poison DVD) suggests otherwise. The attack led to their match at WrestleMania III in which Roberts had Alice Cooper in his corner. He would go on to unsuccessfully challenge The Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship several times throughout the rest of 1987. The initial plan was for Roberts to win the Intercontinental Championship shortly after The Honky Tonk Man's win over Ricky Steamboat and begin an angle with the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, but because of the injuries he suffered from the guitar shot, the decision was made to keep the belt with The Honky Tonk Man.
But I want to talk more about his development as a person. Yeah, he suffered from his inner demons. Who hasn't? Jake has hit rock bottom on multiple occasions. Thank god for DDP. He is doing his damnedest to help Jake and Jake is looking better than ever. I fully believe Jake can make a comeback. It may not be WWE, but ROH could use a star like Jake Roberts to show those fuckers how it's done.
50/50 One of the greatest of all time.

In ring ability/move set: He's probably a 4 when it comes to actual in ring ability. He wasn't a very good wrestler, but he didn't need to be, that's not what he was there to do.
look/physique: 5 He was big that's pretty much why he gets it, dude looked like shit otherwise, but I mean, when I think of that character I don't know what else I'd want him to look like really.
finisher: 10. Invented the DDT, inevitable 10.
on the mic: 10. This is where Jake shined.
character development: 10. He was never the best wrestler, and yet I was ALWAYS interested in what he was doing.
total score: 39

For his era, he looked pretty normal compared to the fat guys or roided up guys on the roster but near the top when it came to promos.

Look/physique: 4
Finisher: 6
On the Mic: 7
Character Development: 5
Total Score: 27
Ring moves: 7 (he usually brawled but could time a slam or suplex well)
Physique: 6 (moderate beer gut, looked like a smaller John Studd if you dyed Jake's hair and grew out his beard)
Finisher: 10 (pioneered the DDT and made it look scary when used on concrete)
Promo ability: 10 (he was skilled at relating everything to his snake motif and never relied on a manager, also was unusual for getting fans to chant his finisher's name rather than his own)
Character depth: 8 (like the Miz, he acted generally the same all the time such that face/heel status relied primarily on who he was feuding with)
Overall: 8.2 (41/5)

i would like to see a non-fucked up jake back in some sort of on camera talking role. he could totally play the dusty old cowboy who knows his shit and has been to hell and back a billion times. that seems like an interesting direction to me.
