View Full Version : UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Bigfoot II

Fans will have to wait a little longer to see Alistair Overeem vs. Junior dos Santos.
According to sources close to Overeem, the heavyweight recently suffered an undisclosed injury while training, which will sideline him for four-to-five weeks. As a result, Overeem's camp recently informed the UFC that he will be unable to fight dos Santos at UFC 160 on May 25.
Overeem is hoping to return to action against dos Santos in July, but as of right now, no decision has been made when he'll return and against who. Also, no word just yet on if dos Santos will remain on the UFC 160 card and fight someone else or wait for Overeem to return.

The UFC is expected to announce its intentions in the coming days.
This marks the second time that a planned Overeem vs. dos Santos fight has fallen through. The pair were supposed to meet for the heavyweight belt at UFC 146 last May, however, Overeem was pulled from the fight after failing to receive his license to fight from the Nevada State Athletic Commission after failing a pre-fight drug test.
He has single handedly fucked up the HW division..

I'd say pull Roy Nelson from the Kongo fight and give him Dos Santos.. Nelson is coming off a big main event win, hasn't been stopped in the UFC and besides Carwin and Cain (2 contenders), is the only person to take Dos Santos to a decision..
Nelson is a vet and I'm sure would have no problem switching opponents..

We are getting JDS vs. Hunt after all.
All's well that ends well for Mark Hunt.
A day after UFC president Dana White said Hunt turned down a fight against Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, "The Super Samoan" got the fight he wanted following a phone conversation with White Thursday night.
As a result, Hunt will now meet dos Santos on May 25 in Las Vegas. White confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com Saturday morning.
When contacted by MMAFighting.com, an ecstatic Hunt called the opportunity "my title shot." Hunt, who denied ever directly turning down the opportunity, was pleased with the outcome of the call, as was White. They would not discuss exactly what they spoke about.
An opening presented itself for Hunt after Alistair Overeem pulled out of the fight due to a quadriceps injury. Immediately after the Overeem news broke, Hunt told MMAFighting.com that he was willing and ready to fight dos Santos later this year.
No word just yet who Overeem will now face next or when he will return to action. Sources close to "The Reem" said he was shooting for a July return to the Octagon.
Hunt (9-7) enters the bout riding a four-fight winning streak following his knockout of Stefan Struve last Saturday night, while dos Santos (15-2) is coming off a heavyweight title loss to Cain Velasquez in December.
UFC 160, headlined by Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva 2, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Hunt vs. dos Santos will serve as the co-main event.

stupid
hunt is a banger and this will be a pretty entertaining fight but i think think balloons of alot of Hunt fan boys will be popped pretty quickly once he get locked in there with JDS.. Sure I like Hunt and he def has a "punchers chance" but the fact remains Hunt is not an elite HW.. Fuck the only "elite" true HW he beat was Cro Cop and the was in like 05.. The only other elite fighter he's beat was Wandy and he prolly had 70lbs on him..
Don't get me wrong, I like Hunt, but this whole thing is a joke IMO.. Simple fact is, the only reason he gets thrown in these conversation is because the "main event" HW's are few and far between right now..
It will be a fun fight either way..
Crimson

Almost always opens with a leg kick, which is easy for Cain to catch/doesn't have a great guard.
He's a monster if he can get on top of his opponent, or can connect with a solid punch, but that's about it.
Cain via RD2 squash (again)
JDS via prolonged beating UD ala Roy Nelson fight
Glover via ugly UD
Maynard 30-27 as per
Cerrone via RD2 RNC
POW
Good card, I like v. much

JDS versus Hunt should go the way Mofo calls it.
Got Teixera via submission.
I see Maynard taking a dominant decision.
Cerrone verus Noons should be fight of the night if Noons can keep it standing. Plus the way those SF guys have been bringing it, wouldn't be surprised to see an upset.

After starting his career with an 8-0 record and winning the World Extreme Cagefighting (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/promotion/wec) (WEC) bantamweight (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/weight_class/bantamweight)title, Brian Bowles (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122467/brian-bowles) has lost three of his past five fights, all by (technical) knockout or submission.
