So I was talking with a promoter the other day and he had been in contact with Buff Bagwell (were friends years ago, finally got ahold of his number again) So Buff tells him that his rate is $1000 a show, plus airfare, plus a ride to and from the show to the airport.... but he's willing to negotiate (from what it sounded like, his demands go up as the price goes down) I advised him against it, not worth that in my opinion. He could probibly run 2 shows with decient local talent for that price, but lets say he did decide to book Buff Bagwell and tickets were $10 a piece (plus you can meet him before the show). Honestly, would you pay to see Buff Bagwell at an indy show nowadays?

If you're talking about it like "OMG, I'm gonna go to this event because Buff Bagwell is gonna be there!", then the answer is NO.
Hell, I wouldn't have paid just to see Buff Bagwell back in 1998.

For $1000 I think he should go back to being Marcus Bagwell. Nothing "buff" about working at a high school gym for $1000

LOL I remember JR telling a story where Buff, for some reason, couldn't make a show back when WWF bought WCW, and he had his mom call in for him.
Back in the day I felt part of the money we spent on the show was wasted because he did wrestle would have otherwise loved the show.

Buff Bagwell was my second fav rassler in WCW next to Scott Hall. That being said.....no.

Personally, I'd probably pay $10 to see a wrestling show with Buff Bagwell on it. However, if you're asking would enough other people come to the show to make back that $1000...

Mind you... you'd only need an audience of 100 people. Doesn't seem too bad... but still a big risk. And if you include paying other wrestlers, staff and crew, and any promotional stuff, then nah... nobody even knows who Buff Bagwell is these days, and if they do, I seriously don't think there are many who care.

To be fair to Buff, his mom is/was his agent. JR was just being kind of a dick about the whole deal to bury Buff Bagwell, but I assume most people don't have their agents call in sick for them.

Loved Buff. One of my favourites from WCW but nah I wouldn't go to a show he was headlining. But I probably wouldn't go to any wrestling event that wasn't WWE anyway.

Honestly, I'd probably rather pay just for a photo with him than pay to watch the event starring him.
Always thought he had a good look (no homo?) but after that horrible fake pregnancy storyline with David Flair, Stacy Keibler and Jarrett, he can fuck off now.

Only if he comes out to AMERICAN MALES! AMERICAN MALES! AMERICAN MALES! If not it's a no.
Kind of doubt I would have ever bought tickets to a show and said "I'm going specially because BUFF FUCKING BAGWELL is on the card!"
I'd pay $10 to almost any promotion above a glorified backyard fed, though, so I guess I technically would go to a show with Buff Bagwell on it.

:y:
I would pay up to $15 if the show were booked to be a one-man Buff invasion and the rest of the locker room beats on him. Maybe have a Battle Royal and everyone in the ring body surfs him over the top rope! For $1,000, Buff would need to throw a hissy fit to rile up the crowd before going to the back. Then he could try to interfere in the main event and be beaten down, maybe suplexed or powerbombed through a table.

if the rest of the boys aren't getting paid, not paying venue hire, you own the ring, promotion costs (especially properly) don't want to make any profit etc.
Good day for Buff tho getting somebody to agree to pay him that + exes

Would need more than 100 considering that covers just his booking fee and not all the other stuff he also demanded (airfare, travel expenses, etc).

Well, I did mention the risk when paying the other guys/staff/promotion etc.
I've never wrestled for a company who has to hire a ring though. I've also never wrestled for a promoter who didn't want to make a profit. :-\
lol yeah you did, I must have been completely switched off because I even remember at least "scanning" the rest of the post
and plenty of places hire rings, it's how some of the guys that own them get themselves and some friends a few bookings. And there are guys that claim they "don't do it for the money", "only care about putting on the best show possible" and some other nonsense, usually from small-time guys using an import or a "name" and then running a really small, hidden away, barely promoted show or just somebody straight up clueless

That's pretty much why I advised him against it, the numbers just wouldn't add up. He has his own ring and let's say in some miracle he finds a venue that won't charge him. Let's say he "negociates" Buff down so it cost him $1000 with everything, and he hires 10 other workers to fill out the card at $30 a piece (that's what alot of shows I've worked pay in Texas) So by some magical coincidence that all works (he gets family and friends to help him with the set up, music, announcing, refs, etc.), he would still have to get 131 people just to make a profit. Honestly, he only pulls maybe 50 people at his shows so I don't see Buff bringing in 3 times his normal audience. Maybe if it was 2003 he could bring in some fans for an indy show, but 10 years later... :-\
Side note, what size audiences do you usually work in front of Ramm?
almost anybody can pull in a decent number if it's simply promoted properly/they're willing to put in the work no matter who's on the card, but quite a few guys simply can't be bothered or aren't willing to put in what's required to do that. There are shows all over that, promoted properly with no "names" on, regularly draw hundreds and hundreds and there are shows run by people that can't be arsed or don't have a clue that have a bunch of names on that get hardly anybody in. I've seen Bryan Danielson wrestle in front of about 14 people at the height of his ROH "best wrestler in the world" days and I've seen 2 people you've never heard of with a tenth of his talent main event a show in front of about 600 people. You get out what you put in.

Buff main evented a show at the MEN on that WWA tour, tagging with Jarrett against Sting and Luger. Match was obviously the drizzling shits and only Jarrett was putting any effort in. Buff eventually got the tag, went for the Blockbuster and Sting dodged but Buff didn't want to take the bump off it so he jumped down onto his feet and took a scorpion death drop for the pin. Jarrett hit him with the guitar afterwards to the pop of the night.
that was the 2nd UK tour, didn't get to see Sting or Luger :-\ we got Bret and Steiner tho so that was good. Main was Jarrett/Road Dogg/Steiner for the "World title". But yeah that sounds about right, when he fucked up on that first tour, he slipped both times and kind of fell onto Stevie Ray and apparently just thought "fuck it" and pinned him. God bless Buff Bagwell

The show was pretty terrible on the whole but Buff was just the worst. Best match was Saturn vs Sabu, pretty awesome to see a Sabu match live. Can't believe the shit he does for such tiny crowds. Loved seeing Disco Inferno too, he got glorious heel heat.
