After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve Rogers – aka Captain America – living quietly in Washington, DC, and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy – the Winter Soldier.

This is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 2 which includes Thor: The Dark World (http://www.tpww.net/forums/showthread.php?t=120888), Guardians of the Galaxy (http://www.tpwwforums.com/showthread.php?t=124521), Iron Man 3 (http://www.tpww.net/forums/showthread.php?t=121126), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (TV) (http://www.tpwwforums.com/showthread.php?t=123810), and ultimately Avengers: Age of Ultron (http://www.tpwwforums.com/showthread.php?t=124518).

The Winter Soldier (alt view):

http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18mga42l48flxjpg/k-bigpic.jpg

Cool. Also:

We weren't going back to World War II. Cap cannot travel in time. So while Tony can go home to Malibu and Thor goes up to Asgard and Hulk can sort of ride the rails, Cap was stuck. So Cap does stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. because he has nowhere else to go. But he's not necessarily comfortable there. As you might imagine, somebody who’s spent 70 years in ice, frozen, wakes up and has to fight a bunch of aliens with a bunch of weirdos—he is trying to figure out what his life is. And just as he's given permission to let go of the past and to focus on the modern world, a ghost comes up. With the Greatest Generation in World World II, there's a tendency to reflect on that period and say, 'Things were black and white back then, and now it's hard to know who the bad guys are.' 'We wanted to play on that a little with Cap being uncomfortable with the way S.H.I.E.L.D., and in particular Nick Fury, operates. Fury certainly rides a line, sort of rides the shadows. He has, I think, lied to every character in every movie, though always seemingly for the good.

Featuring Hayley Atwell reprising her Captain America: The First Avenger role as Peggy Carter.

It's set after that movie, showing her investigating the Zodiac — what resemblance it'll have to the Zodiac of the comic books is unspecified — for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, a S.H.I.E.L.D. predecessor.

Most interesting concept art shows Cap - not in his SHIELD, Avengers, or WW2 suit - taking on Winter Soldier in what seems to be a large battle. Falcon can be seen in the background. It seems Cap will have a new version of his suit afterall, hopefully we get a better look soon.

A piece of the film's score plays in the background of the official site. Scores are usually made after and even during finishing cuts of a film. With that in mind, this movie must be pretty dreaded. Hardly the hero themes of First Avenger. Sounds cool.

Kalyx triaD

A bigger budget does that.

But the show taught us a lot more about SHIELD. We know about the two main training centers (Ops and Tech). We know they've been tracking 'supers' for decades. We know they have a thing for vertical take off vehicles. So on and so forth.

So. regarding the character of the Winter Soldier...

They're really not trying at all to keep his identity a secret, I guess? He's even listed as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier on IMDB.

I guess it's not a huge deal, just seems a bit odd to me.

Sebastian Stan (Bucky/Winter Soldier) is in fact signed for 9 MCU movies, counting this one. Chris Evans has three more appearances (Avengers 2, 3, and Cap 3 - going up against Batman/Superman!). Fans of comic history may well piece future events together.

Baron Von Strucker is seen scheming as part of Hydra. Shows that they have Loki's staff in their possession. Then says the world is full of "miracles" which I guess is their way around saying "mutants", and says it may soon be time to use the twins or something. Then Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are shown in cells, Quicksilver is pacing round the cell anxiously and obviously at a super speed, Scarlet Witch is levitating some stuff then makes it explode.

Second scene was Bucky at the same museum Cap was at earlier in the film and looking at his memorial

Excellent movie. Very packed, thoroughly entertaining, with probably the most realistic action choreography. This becomes the movie that changes the MCU, in so many ways. The amount of foreshadowing in the script and the visuals will make you want to watch it over and over again - there is a lot alluded to.

The Winter Soldier was fantastic.

Albeit, the theater i saw this in CUT the second post credit scene. Is it up somewhere? I know what happens, but seeing is believing. Any help?

Marvel seems to have shifted that way... in that they will put a "significant" mid-credit scene, and then a bit of a "nice, but not essential" post-credit scene. Avengers, Thor: TDK, and now Winter Soldier have all gone that route. I think Iron Man 3 only had the one after credit scene, unless I am completely forgetting it.

This was awesome, and a game changer. Not using Spoiler tags here, we're passed that.

- The Winter Soldier is fucking terrifying. Like... the Terminator. Sort of like how Bane in DKR appears and somebody will die; that's Winter. Only in his case shit blows up as well. Not an once of fatigue or misstep or anything. You are dead. His arm was a great effect and counter-point to Cap's shield. And I love how he was kept mostly off key, not eating too much of the story. Every time he appeared things got awesome.

- This movie is indeed a game changer, though really it does this by killing off a "character" - SHIELD. SHIELD was the glue between all the Phase 1 films, and it seems it has outlived its usefulness. What's also wild is how SHIELD is essentially HYDRA. It seems the deal with Zola back in The First Avenger really came back to bite them in the ass. It wasn't the usual double-agent that had to be rooted out, or even a shadow cabinet. HYDRA was SHIELD. There was no way to simply disconnect or amputate it, not without disassembling SHIELD itself. The Agents of SHIELD show just became required viewing. It picked up seriously after the train episode, but now it's on a fucking roller coaster of possibilities.

- Of course Senator Stern was HYDRA.

- Sharon Carter introduced. Chris Evans has two movies left (Avengers 2, Cap 3). Winter Soldier has nine more appearances. I'm just saying guys...

- Maria Hill getting a job at Stark Industries is something I wanna see play out.

- THE TWINS. It seems the Baron is using Loki's staff, which we can all safely assume was the Mind Gem all along, to use them as their own super-friends. This was probably inspired by Fury's Avengers Initiative - HYDRA wants super people, too. They have, as far as we saw, three successful ones (Bucky, Wanda, Pietro). Could they create/find more by Avengers 2? SHIELD has/had Blonsky in cryo-jail as revealed a few weeks ago on the show. Have you any idea how fucked up that is to know now?!

- The whole preemptive strike thing is eerie in that we're pretty headed in that very direction. I don't think Cap 2 was trying that hard to make any political points, but you gotta imagine where the line is when we really did drone strike people on 'maybe'. That's just an aside, though.

- I have this sinking feeling that old apartment with the hidden key in that flashback will be important later.

- Wonder how Stark's gonna feel that his father was murdered by HYDRA/SHIELD. And on that, Stark now has to watch his tech yet again being used for evil. I'm sure he'll be miffed about that.

SHIELD itself won't be going away mind. HYDRA was just using it as a cover. At least this head of HYDRA was. All you have to do is root out the bad agents, the ones that are HYDRA through and through, set up Coulson as Director with his team as security council and there you go. The rest of HYDRA though, with access to a lot of shit, that's gonna be the main issue. And with Strucker making the fatal mistake of letting Cap take a few of his own bases down and Zola still out there but not under anyone's control? By Cap 3 we might be seeing the fall of HYDRA entirely just in time for a Red Skull to come back and use what's left of the organization to better serve Thanos.

There's no way to know who's HYDRA through and through. Fury's best friend was head of HYDRA!

And Coulson's team... I guess we can rule out Skye, Ward, and Coulson himself. FitzSimmons and especially May don't have as fleshed out pasts. Then there's Garret and his boy.

Victoria Hand is either a high ranking HYDRA operative or just a major bitch.

Baron Zemo is the only way to go in Cap 3. They have to. Then we can get a Thunderbolts franchise!

Actually with the way things are shaping up, and with the contract of Evans running out, I'd say it's much more likely we get The Death of Captain America arc on screen, along with a returning red skull, and maybe his daughter Sin.

I wouldn't hold your breath on the Thunderbolts. Even if they did, it would probably be the modern, government agents version, rather than Zemo and the Masters of Evil.

In the comics she's just a major bitch, that misguidedly follows Norman Osborn for his less insane ideas on how to make the world a better place.

Afterwards, Cap trusts her enough to put her with the New Avengers.

That said, it's entirely possible she is misguidedly following Hydra in this case, as their goal in the movies is to make the world better. STill can't see it though. Hydra's evil methods are far less subtle than Norman's and I can't see the character going along with it.

Kalyx triaD

Yeah they totally would. They're not above recasting, and this isn't a stunt thing - it's source accurate. That little sequence where Bucky used Cap's shield against him and struck a pose can't be ignored considering the comic history. Evan's contract is nearing, and he's spoke about doing something else after being a superhero even before the MCU. Stan has a wild number of movies ahead of him. So unless there's a Winter Soldier film series coming, he's almost certainly the second Captain America.

This is a decade plus "film universe".

They will keep introducing new characters and phase out others as well as actors. Even a guy like Iron Man gets stale after 5 movies so he will move to the back and new characters will fill out the 2 movies a year for the next 10 years.

I have no doubt that Antman was selected as Paul Rudd to fill the fun comedy niche that RDJ fills. as he winds down Antman will get a few movies and will then hand off to some new line.

Finally got around to watching this, I really liked it even though I'm not really a comic book fan, in fact I was feeling Superhero burnout. They did a good job of establishing lots of characters and avoiding bloat. I liked how they incorporated some post Watergate paranoia into the plot but also managed to avoid post Dark Knight brooding and darkness. I also prefer well choreographed fight scenes and practical effects over CGI spectacle. Cool movie, 8/10 I say.
