View Full Version : Songs We Ought To Retire
The Condor

Lately I have come to realize that some songs have been around quite a while and worn out their welcome with me. Don't like them, or I find them annoying, whatever. If you could retire one or two songs from the global playlist which would they be?
"Sweet Home Alabama"- makes every person, regardless of religion, race, gender or geographic location feel like a red neck. And it's really not that good.
"Epic" by Faith No More- I get it, understand its place in the musical evolution chain, but it really hasn't stood the test of time and Im just not a fan.
"Tub Thumping" by Chumbawumba
"Wicked Game" by Chris Isaac
"This Kiss" by Faith Hill
"All Summer Long" by Kid Rock
"Imma Be" by Black Eyed Peas

Train - Soul Sister
Anything by Sublime. They're one of my favorite bands, but I feel like I've heard every single song a million times now.

Daft Punk-One More Time, utter euro trash crap.

Epic is one of my favs, but I understand your point.
"Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. It plays everywhere, motivational runs, Power Point presentations etc.
Train - Soul Sister
Yes! For some reason, I kept on imagining Hogan vs. Savage in a steel cage from Uncensored '98 every time that played. :wtf: #Weird

Limp Bikzit--ANYTHING
"Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf
The song which goes "Stop, yeah, what's that smell"
"I'm a Believer" by The Pretenders or anyone covering it
"Fade to Black" by The Rolling Stones has an assload of covers which thankfully leave radio rotation fairly quickly.
Limp Bikzit--ANYTHING
Their cover of The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes" was funny because of the sequence, "And I blame YOU!!!" -silence- answering machine recording

Journey - Don't Stop Believin' - Pretty much the bane of karaoke nights everywhere. Guaranteed to come up at least once throughout the night, and be sung terribly.
Oasis - Wonderwall - It's the "Don't Stop Believin'" of douchey acoustic guitar players at pubs. Bar promoting an acoustic set of some local musician? Almost guaranteed they will be playing Wonderwall at some point. Not a bad song by any means, but just so cliché.
Lynyrd Skynyd - Sweet Home Alabama - For basically the same reasons as above.
Pearl Jam - Evenflow - "Controversial" pick, but IDK. Every time I listen to any alternative radio station I hear it. Like, without fail. And, no exaggeration, every single time I've been in a car with anyone who has XM radio, if the Lithium station is on I've heard this track within 10 minutes of the station being on. I get that that's the "point" of the channel, but BLAH. I'm just tired of hearing this song on the radio.
Also, basically any song that was "the rage" for about 2 weeks and has outlived its 15 minutes. Like if I were to hear a radio station today playing Call Me Maybe or Gangnam Style. The songs, during their peak, were annoying but I understood that that was the chart-topper of the moment. Whatevs. Now though, it's like... you're just embarrassing yourself, top 40 station. Let it go.

What is it?
Journey - Don't Stop Believin' - Pretty much the bane of karaoke nights everywhere. Guaranteed to come up at least once throughout the night, and be sung terribly.
It's karaoke. If you're going out to karaoke, you deserve what you get.
However, the recent resurgence of the song being sung everywhere thanks to Glee is enough to make me agree that it should be retired.
In fact, we should retire any song that gets onto Glee. And yes, I'm aware that includes "Somebody to Love" by Queen and that one Lady Gaga song I can tolerate.

Pearl Jam - "Yellow Ledbetter": I hate this song more than "Evenflow," because I swear it takes 5 years to get through.
Rob Zombie - "Living Dead Girl": I should specify the digital playings of this song. Because HALF OF THE EFFECTS are lost in the conversion from Analog to Digital.
Linkin Park - The whole catalog: Seriously. They had maybe one good song ever. If there was any band that should be thankful that At The Drive-In imploded when they did, it's these guys.
I think u mean "paint it black" u yellow lipped musically stunted manlet.
Yup! It was part of my plan to get a direct reaction from you! Thanks for calling me a "manlet" because that turns me on, you screwy-eyed pony! RAWR! :naughty:

It's karaoke. If you're going out to karaoke, you deserve what you get.
Normally I'd be in full agreement, but even some of my favourite, otherwise-totally-rational bars have karaoke nights, and it's unavoidable.
I think the worst I've ever experienced was two drunk chicks doing Walk by Pantera. At first I was willing to give them props on the song selection, but once it started, oh good god did that take a 180.

Linkin Park is nothing more than Nsync with Guitars.
And my dislike of "Living Dead Girl" is only due to the fact that many of the samples disappear due to the transition to digital. The song itself is fine, it's the vanishing samples that pissed me off.
