Kenta Kobashi had his retirement match the other night in Japan.

I think it's real cool that Kenta Kobashi was able to have this retirement match and even cooler that someone like Johnny Ace went back for it. I know Japanese wrestling isn't overly popular around here on TPWW, but Kenta Kobashi was a legend.

Absolute legend, one of my favorites. I love Japanese wrestling and Kenta is at the top of the list. He also inspired a lot of the current generation of wrestlers in the WWE and TNA.

I always liked Japanese style pro-wrestling. Has a more sport feel to it rather than using a match to tell a story (nothing wrong with that, though).

Kobashi is truly one of the greatest ever. He made you root for him, not because he stopped to tussle the hair of a bright eyed child on the way to the ring or because he loved kittens, but because he was an honest competitor who always gave it his all in the ring. He was one of the few who managed to both have immensely, leap out of your chair exciting matches *and* make it look like legit sports contest.
Kobashi made you believe and I think that is the highest form of praise I can give. I hope he enjoys retirement, he has sure earned it.
A lot of 90s AJPW and SOME of NOAH was really great, but I honestly hope no generation of wrestlers goes that far with the dangerous spots again. Within a four year span, Kobashi went from being spunky and agile for a husky fella to a point where it was painful to watch him walk, let alone do moonsaults onto what was left of his knees.

I'm fairly certain WWE would have ruined Kobashi's run much like they did with Ultimo Dragon, Kenzo Suzuki, etc.

You didn't look hard enough. I consulted the international rasslin archives of Asia database and it clearly states that on march 3, 1983 Bobby Jaggers was in japan and he fought that guy and beat him b/c USA #1. RIP.

Kenta was perhaps one of the best wrestlers in the 90s. He and Misawa were doing stuff in japan that was amazing. His tag match that I posted earlier is a thing of legend and will always be my favorite.
I am surprised he lasted as long as he has. He took some nasty beatings in the 90s.

Why would anyone do that in the first place? Imagine someone going to, I dunno, Rajah or "the craphole" or some other wrestling forum and quoting a post from here by #1-wwf-fan, James Steele, Bizarro King etc. What would that add to any discussion in the world, unless it was a long, well thought out article on the topic and someone actually said something along the lines of "Hey, I just came across this neat article which really sums up the demise of Sugar Shane Helms, check it out"
Seth intended to post those posts as his own thoughts on Kenta Kobashi. It's as clear as anything. Especially given Seth's track record for lying in an attempt to seem better than he is.

Always liked the feel of Japanese pro-wrestling. Don't follow much personally because A) I don't speak Japanese, and B) I wouldn't know where to look to find it, but it just seems like there's something special there that American wrestling lacks.
I'm also a pretty big fan of women's wrestling and Japan seems to actually care about it so :y:
