Not sure how good it will be, but I definetly plan on seeing it.
I think Brad Pitt is a shitty actor for the role, even though in general I enjoy his acting, this just doesnt seem like a good role for him.
Go.
From the trailors, Pitt's acting looks terrible. I liked him in most of his past movies and I plan on seeing this one but it just sounded terrible.

It's seems like this summer's answer to 'The Gladiator' I dunno, might go see it. Only because I enjoy going to the theater and it might be the best of a bad crop to see.

I think it's going to be pretty good. I can't stand Orlando Bloom though :-\

Just saw it. The acting is pretty good but the ending is a little too Hollywood for me.
The role wasn't right for Pitt but he did his best and I think he pulled it off.
Eric Bana was by far the best actor.
The battle scenes are probably the best I've seen, other than the battle in ROTK.
I highly recommend people go see this movie.

Saw it... It wasn't bad...
Orlando Bloom's character is fu</>cking annoying though... He can't do anything right..
*******SPOILERS*****
Hmmm... He causes a war after a peace treaty because he wants to shack up with another guys girl...
He challenges someone to a duel to the death, and then when he gets his ass kicked crawls away and hugs his brother's leg..
To top it all off, he shoots down Achilles when Achilles is saving Bloom's in movie cousin.... Everything he does is wrong...
It wasn't a terrible movie but they need to go back and take out just about every part where Bradd Pitt talks. At least at the beginning. What makes me angry is they hire all those extras and don't take the time to even change scenes decently. A song would be playing and then the next minute it just stops and scratches to the next scene.
It was a good movie though. I'd see it again.

I enjoyed it. I had heard/read mainly negative reviews for it. So I was worried I'd be sitting there for a 165 minutes of crap. But I was entertained throughout it.
I like Pitt, but in my opinion, he shouldn't really play a character that isn't "modern".
Eric Bana definitely steals the show though. O'Toole is good as well, and as usual, Brian Cox is the man.
I say :y: but if you are on the fence about it, at least check out a matinee.

I think I'm gonna go see it soon, purely because Brad Pitt is the man and I like epics

And Boromir plays Odysseus
My only critique is that it seemed like Brad Pitt was posing in every scene, ie with his sword drawn, or looking out from a boat, or standing with his "I'm so manly and jacked" pose.

The movie, if you go according to the Iliad (discounting the talks of Gods and unrealistic stuff)...
*Highlight for Spoilers*
Ok, this war lasted 10 years, not a damned month for one thing. For another, Achilles died long before the Trojan Horse. Ajax killed himself, he didn't fall to Hector. Hector's body was sold for Ransom. Helen eventually came back with the Greeks. Menalaus did NOT die, Paris DID. The Horse was supposed to be an offering to Athena, NOT Poseidon. It was about 19-20 things like that...
All that being said, there was some good visual effects and all. Oh, and was I the only one who, upon seeing Paris shoot his bow, counted 150, 151, 152...(or start at some other ridiculous number?)

I read in a review somewhere that it is rated R due to nudity. Who's nude in it?
There isn't really nudity just some very close shots from Bradd Pitt (you see his ass once or twice from the side), Orlando Bloom gets quite close to a frontal, and a couple of girls. No actual shots just really close. I would say the only reason it gets an R rating is for the fights and some graphic scenes I guess.

Whoever played Helen had an ass double for a second. It actually DID show ass, for 3 second.

I'd give it a "C+"
Pros
- Brian Cox as Agamemnon, Sean Bean as Odysseus, and Eric Bana as Hector were all excellent, excellent performances.
- The Achilles-Hector one-on-one battle was beautiful.
- Sort of a spoiler, but if you don't expect this as soon as the scene starts, you're an idiot (highlight it): Nathan Jones dies in the first ten minutes!
- It did a pretty good job of capturing the brutality of that period's warfare.
- Helen was suitably beautiful.
Cons
- Waaaaaaaaay too long. You could have shaved a half-hour of fighting out of it and had a hell of a movie.
- An actor the genius of Peter O'Toole had criminally little to do as Priam.
- A few "historical" inaccuracies. Of course, "The Iliad" was written almost a half-millenium after the fact, so we have no idea how accurate or inaccurate it is.
- A bunch of the not-quite-main characters were cast with actors who look a lot alike, and I had trouble figuring out who was who on a couple of occasions.

This movie has been getting horrible reviews.
But from what I've heard Brian Cox and Sean Bean steal the show.
I'm going to watch it because Sean Bean rules all.
I agree.

I went in there looking for entertainment. Thats what I got.
Quality movie....so long as you don't go picking it to pieces for historical inacquarcy.
never will an Hollywood movie give way to facts over entertainment. Gotta keep that in mind when watching.

Watched it yesterday, and it was pretty good.
Although it was like 2 and half hours, it went by quickly. Unlike Return of the King which dragged on for ages.
El Capitano Gatisto

Return of the King was about an hour longer. Maybe that is why.
Anyway, I really want to see this because I read the story of the Trojan war initially a long time ago, and always liked it. The Classics class we had to do in school years ago was great, because we'd learn about stuff like the Trojan war and the Greek Gods, who were a bunch of womanising, vengeful bastards.
Greek myths are great.
I hear they cut the Gods role out of the story, though, which is disappointing, and they don't mention how Achilles was immortal from being dipped in the river Styx, apart from the heel his mother was holding when she did it.

Pretty good movie. Reminds moe of all the old gladiator and sandal epics Hollywood used to make. Hector v. Achilles was great, Peter O'Toole made a wonderful Priam, and I just realized that Eric Bana is the Man.
Changes I would have made: Trojan War should have at least felt like a 10-Year war; the 15-Day war makes it lose a little bit something. And Paris should have died for his stupidity, which caused thousands of deaths and the destruction of Troy. The basic rule of tragedy, you know what I mean? The tragic flaw does not goes unpunished.
@ loopydate: LOL at the Nathan Jones comment. :)

Yeah, it was pretty good, nothing over the top great. Ran too long. Some of the fight scenes went TOO fast, and I couldn't keep up.
And everything Santo just said.

there were a lot of mistakes in it  and I thoguht they could have done more to say that Achillies was pretty much invinsible except for his heel. I still enjoyed the movie and would recommend it.

Achilles mentions that when he's talking to Perseus (sp?).
