Since moving to Smackdown, Orton hasn't done jack shit. I don't get it.

Just a cool down period between runs, he'll turn, get a push and somebody else will take his upper midcard spot for the duration.

Yes because everyone needs to be pushed as the main event all the time.

He'll be back in the title picture after he turns heel in the summer and does a program with Sheamus.

They had a program in 2010 that not too many people were into. I enjoyed their SummerSlam 2010 match, but I was probably the only one.

He had a great feud with Christian and put over Mark Henry as a legit badass champion before neutering poor Cody Rhodes. It's been is a lot better than the rumoured original plan of having him just be Smackdown Cena and dominating the show every week. It's not like he's doing jobs to JTG and Heaf Slaytugh, and even if he was, thats nothing a "main eventer" hasn't done before.

He's one of the few that doesn't need a title to get over

I wouldn't say he's done as a top star, not at all.

But I will say that Randy Orton has been disappointing. He had all the tools and was given all the opportunities to become the top star in the business, to become the man, yet he never came through. Don't get me wrong, he's one of the top guys even without a title, is crazy over with the crowd, but I still think it's disappointing that guys like John Cena and CM Punk were able to go to another level, a level Randy Orton never reached.

Overall, Nope.

As a #1/#2 type guy then probably yes due to those wellness strikes. Would be surprised if he ever gets to have another a WWE reign since that is the company's top belt but still WHC champ worthy.

mike adamle

Yeah, highest he'll ever from here on out is WHC. Not bad by any means, but he won't be headlining anything with Lesnar or Taker or even Triple H ever again. Probably won't with Cena or Punk either unless one of them has nothing else to do.

Orton could spend two years doing nothing but "Dog shit on a pole" matches on Superstars against Mason Ryan and he'd still be more over than pretty much the entire roster. So I guess it depends on how you define a "top star". It seems weird to have a guy be so money and keep him around only to avoid using him in the title picture because you're worried about his third strike. I feel like at some point, with their inability to push new stars, they've gotta finally trust Orton again and use his overness for all the fresh feuds they've built keeping him away from THE guys over the past couple years.

Eh, Orton is good but he's never really been that special to me honestly. I'm perfectly fine with him being where he is if he's gonna remain face. Just use him to put over new guys. If he ever turns heel again (which I'm starting to doubt will happen) then maybe, just maybe I'd say give him another shot at the big time.

Really it's fully understandable why WWE wouldn't wanna put their chips on him. Guy's been given every break available and he still managed to fuck it all up.

Yes, I'm quoting myself, but...

I think Orton's big failing is that he's unreliable. He's prone to unprofessional outbursts, has two wellness violations under his belt, a link to the drug controversy that preceded the wellness policy, and shoulders that only occasionally decide they want to be attached to the rest of his body.

I think he's in a good spot now. He's over, so he's a good attraction, but they'll never make him The Guy, for fear it'll all come crumbling down.

He shouldn't put anybody over

He shouldn't put anybody over

Why not? So he should just sit there taking up space and not doing anything at all but burying people for no reason in nonsensical squash matches? If he's not gonna be put back in the main event then there's no reason for him to do anything other than put people over.

There's nobody worth putting over.

Randy and Sheamus are in throw-away feuds with Show and Mark Henry to give Dolph Ziggler his 5 minutes as Champion. Hopefully Ziggler will feud with some if not all of them before the end of the summer.

Do you honestly think if he failed another drug test that WWE wouldnt try and cover it up. It's wrestling ffs, a seedy business and he is a moneymaker. If I were them I would let him do all the weed or heroin he wants as long as he stays a top rassler.

I remember a few years back when "backstage reports" were saying that WWE's top guys (or, most protected I think they said" were John Cena, CM Punk and Randy Orton.

Doesn't feel like Orton is in that "elite" set of top WWE guys anymore.

I really liked Orton around this time (assuming this was 2011). He was having great matches on PPV with Christian and Mark Henry, and that look really suited him.

That would imply WWE has the capacity to learn.

I refuse to believe that possible.

Haven't really enjoyed much that Blandy has done since probably around '09.

If they do turn him he may inject some personality into his ring work and promos, so if that's the case I can see him in the main event again.

Why is Randy using an illegal weapon on those steel steps?

Gotta love Orton winning matches by slamming his own spine and shoulders into things.

It's really impressive the way he manages to win table matches by putting himself through the table.

Jesus, no!

His in-ring style and promo as a heel is far, far worse. Everything slows down to half pace - words and moves. Rest hold, stomp, rest hold, etc.

Orton kind of lost my interest for a long time, but he's getting it back again somehow. A few people want to see him turn heel, but I kind of feel that he will just get cheered against anybody anyway. He's like a Stone Cold Steve Austin they can't really put the title on in fear that he will get fired and the media will jump all over it. But luckily for him, he doesn't actually need the title to be over.
