it's a fun, heavily produced gimmick that Wyatt excels as the leader in. About it really. We'll see how it translates to TV. The (parts of the) internet (that doesn't already) is going to love it.

Wyatts vs Shield would make sense in a power struggle kinda way but it would have to be heel vs heel so it would be no good.

The Wyatt Family should be getting the kind of push The Shield has been getting. I just worry that the gimmick will be "too much" for the campy, simplistic style of WWE right now and they'll end up getting watered down and eventually jobbed out.

05-28-2013, 06:22 PM
On a side note, anyone else find it funny that we're getting to a point where there are more legitimate trios on the roster than tag teams? Soon it's gonna make more sense to have 6 man tag team titles than tag titles.

What Would Kevin Do?

I cannot tell a lie, I would mark out like a virgin in a whorehouse if after having run through the roster for a few months the Wyatt Family was in the ring calling out new challengers and the SHIELD theme hit and they came through the crowd and started brawling.

You know what I miss? Tag feuds that don't revolve around the titles.

Was just thinking how a tag feud between The Wyatt Family and Team Hell No while The Shield are doing their own thing defending the tag titles would pick up the tag division a little.

Make something like The Usos and 3MB have a feud that's mostly featured on Main Event and Smackdown with sporadic matches on Raw and you've suddenly got some depth in the tag division.

Bryan's got the creepy redneck beard going on. The Wyatt Family should try to take advantage of the rift between Kane and Bryan and Bryan's lack of confidence in himself by trying to recruit him. Kane tries talking him out of it, it leads to a big "will he or won't he" thing before he teases joining the family but ultimately "NO! NO! NO!". There's your feud.

This is a quote from me in the NXT thread from back in June...

Holy shit. Between the production of that video and the Bray Wyatt character... Fuck.

Seriously, if you wanna make wrestling seem less corny and more like a legit form of entertainment, you show them those Bray Wyatt videos. It's like a preview for a TV show that everyone is gonna be raving about.

I seriously feel like this. If I wanna show non-wrestling fans why I enjoy wrestling I'd explain to them it's because I know something like this is gonna come around every once in a while and I'm gonna root heavily for it to succeed. I may shit on the writers and be terrified that they're gonna fuck this up royally but I still have faith that the company is gonna get the right people in there at some point to build stories like professional writers and they're gonna roll with something like this to the point where people will wanna pay $40 for a PPV to see what's gonna happen to this character.

I think a lot of that is just personal desire. I remember wanting Taz to be a World Champ in the WWE and perhaps he would have gone that way eventually if not for his medical issues. Hell, Taz would have been a perfect fit for the WWE today with all the smaller guys, but I digress. I wanted to see ECW Monster Taz choke everyone out and curse in his promos...obviously that wasn't going to happen but it's what I wanted. Very unrealistic.

I also really wanted Mankind to not be the guy putting other main-event guys over, I wanted him to win the title a few more times before he "retired", but he put over Rock and Triple H instead. Probably better or the company in retrospect, but I would have enjoyed a more successful Mankind character. At the very least he should not have tapped to the Groin Claw.

I'd like to see Wyatt come in and go after the emotionally-crippled people on the roster. Prey on Hell No's insecurities. Needle Kaitlyn about her breakdown and try to completely ruin her (maybe have a mid card babyface step up to defend her). Play off Zack Ryder's cynical last few Z!TLIS episodes and target his confidence.

I would love for them to start off by getting involved in the Daniel Bryan story and try to recruit him by preying on his paranoia. Kane trying to stop him from "joining the dark side" and feuding with Bray Wyatt with Bryan in the middle just being more and more mentally fucked with could be amazing.

I'd be quite cool if they started a cult like that.

So who do they go after?

See below:

Remember that the structure of the WWE is not like a legit sport. If they did there'd be tournaments and brackets etc. rather than just random insulting and assaults. So a heel can totally get away with coming out, pissing off the audience and issuing an open challenge just to prove they're better than everybody (you get the general idea).

Masters had the Masterlock Challenge which I hated and thought was boring, but a better heel could have made that amazing. Some heels are JUST bullies who like hurting people and making their opponents feel inferior. Monster heels just want to destroy everything around them. Raven with or without the title wanted to get in people's heads, generally just ruin their lives.

Don't get me wrong, a heel gimmick where the guy is willing to do anything to get to the top works well too, but yeah there aren't enough World title matches (even including Money in the Bank briefcases and ) in the WWE to establish the "everybody is after the title" angle.

ECW had three titles for the majority of their existent: Tag, TV and World right? During the Taz reign he defended the title constantly, sometimes twice in one night. Shane Douglas, Raven and Justin Credible were always defending the title and it was a fairly common thing to see the title defended (rarely changing hands though). In a small company with a small roster it made sense for nearly everybody to go after the title, it always played heavily into the feuds and rivalries. Compare that to the numerous worthless titles in the WWE and the giant roster.

Yeah but its rumored that Bryan is going against Cena at Summerslam. Who are midcard faces that can go against the Wyatt family right now without dropping all of their plans?

XL
06-21-2013, 11:58 AM
The stable doesn't have to revolve around winning titles. That doesn't have to be their end game from day one. They can just go in and fuck stuff up like The Shield did for months before getting the gold.

Big Vic
06-21-2013, 12:00 PM
Who do they go after guys?.....Or do they just promo and go after no one for now? That's all I can see them doing.

SlickyTrickyDamon
06-21-2013, 12:03 PM
Right now they haven't even debuted yet. Do we have a timetable for their debut or is this going to be a long promo season?

Probably the same group of jobbers the Shield regularly faces in tune up matches. The Usos, Justin Gabriel, Zack Ryder, etc.

Big Vic
06-21-2013, 12:09 PM
Yeah i'm guessing its going to have to be those jobbers, everyone else is busy right now, maybe R-truth and Kofi can go against them once Kofi comes back teaming with.....Sheamus? when he's done with Sandow, but then that leaves Rhode Scholars with nothing to do. It seems like with have a drought of faces right now.

I don't really care who they go after at first. I just want them to have a reason within their gimmick for going after whoever they go after other than "We're heels so we're gonna attack you faces".

James Steele
06-21-2013, 09:29 PM
Ideally, they'd attack a babyface cutting a promo about faith or something along those lines.

James Steele
06-21-2013, 09:37 PM
Imagine Zack Ryder or some other glorified jobber talking about how he has faith in the WWE Universe and how they will support him as he tries to turn his career around or whatever...BOOM. He gets the shit beaten out of him by the Wyatt Family and then he cuts a sweet promo. "So you wanna talk about faith?! You wanna talk about what you and these people believe in?! Well..."

I'm not sure where The Wyatt Family actually fits in, but those FCW promos from Wyatt are amazing. I actually think that Wyatt would be a better fit for NXT still until there are some spots open up. Given that we now know Ryback will face Chris Jericho at Money in the Bank, I could actually see The Wyatt Family attacking Jericho after Ryback beats him and Wyatt cutting a promo.

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam could be pretty interesting and a good way to debut Wyatt.

I can kind of see the WWE hot-shotting the Tag Team Titles to The Usos just so they can lose them to The Family.

I'm very interested to see what they'll do with Luke Harper. on that note who the fuck writes for WWE and why haven't they been fired yet??

Now, I'm very critical of how seemingly braindead WWE's writers tend to be... but what on earth brought up the need to ask that question after how awesome that debut was???

I said that in a jokey manner but if them attacking Kane were to actually lead to a long, drawn out angle that ends with Bray Wyatt vs The Undertaker at WrestleMania, I would not be remotely upset.

James Steele

If it somehow leads to Undertaker becoming Satan Incarnate again and crucifying John Cena on a flaming Undertaker symbol - I'm all for it.

You know what would be awesome? Next week Lawler should stand in the ring, and asks the audience "who wants to do the Wyatt Family dance!", and then members of the audience get in the ring and do the Wyatt Family dance! At the end, Bo Dallas rides down on his motorycle and says: "now that's BOdaciois!

Dude Marsh

I just like his delivery in his promos. It's much different than your usual bland promo where the guy sounds like a robot. It sounds like he's more passionate about what he says, kinda like Ambrose and Punk. The good thing is that this delivery probably makes him "WHAT?"-proof.

Vastardikai

I really think there's a bit of Kevin Sullivan in the Bray Wyatt gimmick. More Army of Darkness or Slaughterhouse stables than Dungeon of Doom, but I get a bit of that vibe from him.
