Figured this awesome game needs a thread of it own. I'm like 32% into it. 5 hours. Got it yesterday evening.

This looks good, but also is like a naughty Dog template.
Drake probably shows up halfway into the game.

Contrary to what some fanboys may think from my previous comments on the game, I quite enjoy it very much. Feel like the ridiculous hype train may be a bit out of control, but it's still an incredible game. The storytelling, voice acting, character depth, and general atmosphere of the game are top notch. The AI is a bit fucktarded at times, which is really immersion-breaking for a game that is so otherwise incredibly realistic. Feels a bit short too; I'm at the University, which I believe is fairly near the end of the story, but I've tried my damndest to avoid spoilers so I can't be certain.

I think this game is great, yeah nothing beats Fallout 3/NV for replay value but this is one of the best games on the PS3, I'd say this is more enjoyable than Red Dead Redemption- which was very good and fun (because of the open world) but I was never sucked into the story. LA Noir might be more than RDR- but yeah I'm digging this.

Heard Ellen Page isn't happy female lead of the game looks like her.

Because her likeness is a selling point of Fahrenheit 3. Er... Beyond: Two Souls.

Well i'm not happy with Ellen Page and her lack of being slutty.

Ellen Page reminds me of like a little sister. In that I don't find her attractive like that, but I'd stomp the fuck out of someone who said they did sexual things to her and I knew it to be a lie.

To be totally honest I totally got the Ellen Page vibe while I was playing the game. Didn't help that the chick's name was Ellie.. like come on! But whatevs.
Finished the game on hard last night. Will probably try Survivor soon. The Winter season was really intense. Somewhat spoiler-y: Playing as Ellie was kinda rad. Her kill animations for stealth knife kills were fucking great hahaha.
Has anyone played the multiplayer at all? I've heard good things but have yet to delve into it.

For a very long time I didnt "see" it with Ellen Page, then one day I was like "yeah, okay...she's pretty damn cute". Like, not hot obviously, but someone you could definitely spend committed to and not get bored looking at her.

Multiplayer is good stuff. When the game came out I played enough to be in the top 6000 on the global clan leaderboards for the first week. Haven't really played much since I beat it but it was fun.

The Last of Us is one of those games with lots of hidden surprises, but one nobody expected to find was actual working sex-chat numbers.
A gamer discovered two numbers for a pest control company on a bulletin board in Pittsburgh and decided to ring them for a laugh. What he didn’t expect was that they would work and connect him to an adult sex-line. Of course Naughty Dog didn’t actually know that these numbers even worked and has since apologized and promised to remove them.
“That was an artist’s mistake,” creative director Neil Druckmann told Kotaku. “What happened was, they put some phone numbers in the game and then they thought they could just change the area code to 555, then it’s invalid because it’s what they do in movies. But I guess that doesn’t work when you have a 1-800 in front of it.
“We’re now working to take it out,” Druckmann said. “It was just an honest mistake.”

Plays game with excessive swearing, violence, and adult themes. Gets upset over arguably intentional placement of adult sex line phone number. I get it.

Whoever got upset over that number is pretty dumb. They obviously did something due to people bitching.

I'd like to get this out of the way first because it is a very tiny thing that isn't important but TOTALLY IS. The very first time Ellie tells Joel "I can't swim" I said to my TV screen well then teach her. Just fucking teach her. It takes like 10 minutes to teach her how to swim. Maybe a half hour. This is a very big survival skill and we're out here in the fucking apocalypse. Teach her how to swim. It will be very useful down the road. Please teach her how to swim. But no. And sure enough, for puzzle reasons, the fact that Ellie can't swim is brought up like 4 more times. And on the last time Ellie goes "Hey maybe after this you can teach me how toOH GEE MAYBE YOURE ON TO SOMETHING MAYBE WE SHOULD TEACH YOU HOW TO SWIM WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT.
The AI was very weird/buggy for me in a lot of moments in the game. I would reload a scene and half the bandits are FREAKING OUT like 50 yards away. Jumping from cover to cover, running at the wall in the same place, basically bandits acting like infected. And I haven't been seen or anything. So this puts them in an "alerted" stage or however you want to call it and made stealth near impossible when that would happen.
I love Uncharted but the pacing in Uncharted games start to bore me after a while. I really want the next 2-3 Uncharted games to be great but if they follow the cutscene/shootout/cutscene/explore/cutscene/sometimes you run away from something formula then I'm going to have a hard time getting through them and enjoying them. I was really surprised when I was playing The Last of Us and finding that it follows the same thing. With all of the hype over "dynamic AI" and how there was a bigger focus on "survival" I guess I was expecting something a lot more open-worldy than what I got. There were too many moments where you're walking down a hill and you go "Wow, look at all that conveniently placed cover, I wonder what's about to ha-- yup we're getting ambushed." Maybe that's from "shooter fatigue" or what you want to call it. Basically, I'm getting bored of this shit.
Scavenging for parts is fine I guess but it starts to become distracting because midway through the game I"m purposely not going the way I'm supposed to go just to see what's out there and 90% of the time it's nothing. The fact that you don't automatically retrieve arrows and is a random occurrence is very disappointing. Same thing with every single bad guy's guns. If a bad guy was shooting at me and I killed him, I should be able to loot him for bullets. No exceptions.
The story is fine. Joel's a dick. I was really hoping there was a button prompt for "Make Joel calm down" or a "See this from another angle" button but there wasn't. I actually walked out of the hospital room when given the choice because I knew that was the right thing to do. As you might have guessed, the game didn't advance and I eventually had to walk back and make Joel do his thing.
The voice acting was solid. The "original score" wasn't anything fantastic.
Good game, hardly game of the year.

<spoiler><spoiler>I understand your feeling on the ending, RoXer, but I have some amount of fatigue for games that have "press button to choose your ending" endings. What you are forced to do with Joel totally fits with his character; I just can't see him have a change of heart at the last minute about saving a teenage girl not unlike his daughter that he has spent the past year with. Sure it's dumb what he does, but that's totally Joel. He's completely rash.
My biggest problem with the game is that Ellie is some fucking killing machine, but hey, video games! (Joel being a killing machine, totally ok though...better than Nathan Drake). It's just like the swimming thing - I knew what that problem was there for, but its a game so I don't really want to have to pick it apart. If I wanted to nitpick, I could totally go really specific and try and figure out why there were a bunch of file cabinets at the top of every set of stairs.</spoiler></spoiler>

But I enjoyed the game. If I hadn't Redboxed it, I would have gone slower. I don't tend to plow through games, so I was definitely frustrated at parts. I played it on Hard, which was definitely the right decision. The AI was occasionally bad, and I would occasionally completely whiff on a melee swing when I shouldn't have, but otherwise I thought the gameplay was quite good.
I wish they would have more combat sequences with zombies and humans together somehow. That's what I was expecting the game to evolve into by the end, but the combat doesn't change a whole lot throughout

The Left Behind DLC was fun. You have to throw something for the infected to try and kill the dudes hunting you in many parts.
