Well...
Source: MoviePilot.com
Liev Schreiber will play Chris Benoit in the film about the Benoit double murder-suicide. MoviePilot reports that Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine will portray the infamous wrestler in Crossface, written by Sarah Coulter. Schreiber was previously reported to be in early talks for the role.
SRG is producing the film, which will cover Benoit’s life from his time training with the Hart family through his career, including the murder of his son and wife followed immediately by his suicide.
Coulter has previously said that the film will go inside the mind of Benoit from the start of his drug abuse after the death of Eddie Guerrero on forward. Several WWE stars including Triple H and Vince McMahon will be portrayed in the film.

It sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me. I don't see this coming to pass. I don't know the movie business but I don't see Vince McMahon allowing anyone to portray anyone from WWE without going to battle legally over it.

If this is successfully made, it will probably contain >50% actual truths.

I get the feeling that if it does get made, which I hope it doesn't, then it'll just pretty much be like "Homer S: Portrait of An Ass Grabber" from The Simpsons.

LIEV SCHREIBER
NOT Playing Chris Benoit
In Tragic Biopic
http://ll-media.tmz.com/2013/07/11/0711-liev-schreiber-chris-benoit-3.jpg
Liev Schreiber will NOT be playing wrestler Chris Benoit -- who murdered his wife and son in 2007, then committed suicide -- in a biopic about the wrestler's life ... despite reports to the contrary ... Liev's rep tells TMZ.
Rumors swirled that Schreiber had signed on to play Benoit in the film "Crossface" -- which has been in the works since 2011 -- but we're told it just ain't so.
Benoit's story is as tragic as they come ... with the wrestler turning on his wife and 7-year-old son in a violent rage that may have been caused by brain injuries he sustained during his wrestling career.
So far, no official word on who IS set to play the troubled wrestler in the biopic.

The consensus thus far seems to be that nothing good can come of this

Why would anyone want to make a movie about this?

It seems it'd be a made-for-TV movie at best, but those usually come out within a few years of a tragedy to capitalize on it.

Same reason they make every shitty Lifetime movie or "true crime" TV movie. They'll get viewers just because of interest in stories "ripped from the headlines". FFS, Lifetime made a movie about the Casey Anthony Trial.

Apparently child-killing parents = ratings.

Its easy to make a film from a trial because the script is right there for you in the record. They don't have that for Benoit.

So your answer is "because they're sociopaths".
I kinda figured that part.
