According to imdb, Michael Rooker stars as Yondu, some blue guy, so apparently not his dream job as a raccoon. Gonna watch it anyway, cause I love me some Michael Rooker.

Yeah he coincided with a relaunched Nova series in the books starring a kid Nova. When Marvel goes cross-media like that you can expect it to remain consistent. A Nova movie now would almost certainly use the kid, or go halfway and de-age Richard Rider a bit.

They weren't nearly as subversive as what Guardians is looking like. All the MCU movies have their fair share of humor, particular all the Phase 2 stuff following The Avengers precedent for comedic levity, but Guardians is the first one to really run with that as a base rather than an extra ingredient.

Kalyx triaD
02-19-2014, 04:21 PM
Also compare the marketing; the other Phase 2 movies revealed themselves with dead serious trailers with their comedy discovered at launch. Guardians' first trailer is a comedic one, and I presume the other trailer [in the Spring] will also present comedy as well as giving us Rocket and Groot's first dialogue. As an inverse of the other movies, we'll eventually see that the Guardians are dealing with arguably heavier shit than the other MCU heroes have had to - with only Thor coming close by saving reality itself by angry elves. If the comics are anything to go by, the Guardians run by some major dudes out there.

I think their movie sets up Phase 3 more than Avengers 2 probably will, since Phase 3 is probably gonna be balls to the wall 'we sold a talking raccoon we can do anything' material.

Production budget was 255 million. Marketing was about 190 million. Critically, this was lower rated than Spiderman 3, although as of right now more audience goers enjoyed it. Even if they manage 600 million worldwide, which they haven't yet it'll be hard to call this one a win. The Franchise is certainly in danger, which is fine by me since I was bored to tears by the Amazing Spider-Man and had no interest in watching this film based on the trailers alone.

As for GOG, I dunno, I don't know the characters, but based on the trailer I want to see this movie. Will probably take my family too. It looks like a fun space-fantasy movie with well-developed characters and humor. I want to watch it. I bet it does well.

Except X-Men made like 4 times its budget, which is a better return than the first Iron Man or Cap films made.

If you're going to use it as a "flop" benchmark, then Marvel have already had one with Incredible Hulk which took in less money than X-Men, even before you start looking at stuff like adjusting for inflation.

I don't think GotG's going to do as well as some of their other stuff, but providing it gets decent write ups I think it should do ok.

CinemaBlend reporting an interesting possibility (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Could-Another-Team-Up-Hulk-Future-Avengers-2-43682.html)regarding the Guardians and Phase 3.

One of the big questions that has been hanging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its first year of existence has been, "What do we do with Hulk?" The Incredible Hulk was viewed as an under-performer compared to other heroes in the Marvel stable, and while the character was certainly a standout in Joss Whedon's The Avengers, there was no substantial role for him found in Phase Two. Stories have been stirring lately about what the studio could be planning for the giant green monster in Phase Three, and now a new interesting bit of speculation has hit the web.

Fair Warning: What lies ahead could be some very big spoilers for The Avengers: Age of Ultron. We're not 100% sure that the rumors and speculation in this story are true - and it very well could not be - but if you don't want to take the risk then I would recommend heading back over here.

Without delving into too many details, HitFix says that the final act will see Bruce Banner/Hulk stuck on a rocket with a trajectory set to go into deep space. While some of you might say that this sounds just like a set up for a Planet Hulk movie - a rumor that Mark Ruffalo denied earlier today - this new report suggests that Marvel Studios has something entirely different planned. Instead of having a Hulk solo movie as part of Phase Three, instead the Green Monster will be hooking up with Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

While this rumor is entirely dependent on a) Guardians of the Galaxy being popular enough to warrant an immediate sequel, and b) The Avengers: Age of Ultron ending with a space-bound Hulk, I am willing to believe it. As proven by the lackluster box office results and critical reception for The Incredible Hulk, the green beast is not the easiest character to sell in a solo venture. That said, Marvel just had an incredible amount of success putting Nick Fury and Black Widow alongside Captain America in The Winter Soldier. If the studio is seeing grouping as a viable option for boosting their under-performing properties, I don't see why Hulk being a part of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is that far out an idea.

Of course, one possible obstacle here is Mark Ruffalo. One of the principal reasons why a Planet Hulk movie wouldn't work is because it would feature almost all green guy and very little Bruce Banner, and give the actor very little time outside of a motion-capture suit. If Ruffalo wouldn't be pleased with that, would he be pleased with the idea of once again sharing the spotlight with five or more other lead characters, as he will have done by that point in two Avengers films? This is information only Mark Ruffalo knows, and even if you were to ask him about it he would have to keep tight lipped due to Marvel's secrecy policies.

As of now, Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a rather empty slate. Peyton Reed's Ant-Man is penciled in for July 17, 2015, and Captain America 3 is being prepped for May 6, 2016, but the schedule remains wide open beyond that. The studio has planted flags on both July 8, 2016 and May 5, 2017, but neither title has been announced yet. In addition to rumors of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 being a part of Marvel's future plans, they also have both Thor 3 and Doctor Strange in the works.

*Got tickets for tomorrow at 2, like I said the trailers got me curious/interested.

The guy (Tyler Bates) involved with the music of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is part of /involved with the current line up of my favorite band in the world -

WAMG: What other projects are coming up for you?
TB: For now, I’m going on tour. I just finished co-writing and producing Marilyn Manson’s new record. That was fantastic. We have a great relationship and we’re very good friends. We work very naturally together, so this music was really just us having fun. It turned out to be his new album. We worked hard on it and really enjoyed it. He did bring it to my attention that it would be insane of me not to go out and play this record with him. It’s obviously a rare opportunity and it’s where I come from – making records in my earlier days. I’m super psyched!
I’m fortunate to have the TV show “Salem” that did really well its first season. The people involved in that are so great. It was such a pleasure to work with them. Manson and I did the title sequence on that, which will return for another season.
I’m working on another show called “Kingdom” which I’m very excited about. It is a drama centered around a Mixed Martial-Arts gym and the family that owns it.
I just finished on a movie with Keanu Reeves and Willem Dafoe called JOHN WICK. That was very cool. As with GUARDIANS, there are songs interspersed in this film as well. There’s a song I wrote with Marilyn Manson. There’s a song I wrote with my friend Ciscandra Nostalghia, whose career is blowing up right now. I worked on the score with my friend Joel Richard. It’s really a great collection of people on the team.

My FB post about it-

Guardians of the Galaxy was very good. If you think comic based movies are limited to certain things.. Many are so I can't disagree but this was very well done, it wasn't rushed to make a quick buck, it used obscure character leads and took risks. Winter Solider was the most thought provoking with underlining themes while this is the most unique presentation of a Marvel movie yet.

The raccoon pretty much stole the entire movie. Batista was actually really good, and I think that he will get the most praise of his entire career from this wrestling forum for this movie.

I saw it in 3D though, and that gave me a headache while I got adjusted to it. I might go see it again in the standard theater. I really hate most of what Hollywood comes out with because it is garbage until Oscar season, but this was a great popcorn/fun/funny flick.

Apparently he was the voice of the prisoner Groot beat up by putting his "fingers" up his nose. Can't say I noticed by his voice and was waiting for a more noticeable cameo from him. Not that I'm complaining though, because...

This film was really effing great. So so so much fun.

Chris Pratt was brilliant. Love all his little nuances and how ungraceful he was during the big battles. Gave a lot more realism to the character. Groot was the star of most the battle scenes though in a Hulk-in-Avengers kinda way. But obviously Rocket was the star of all the dialogue. The whole "12% of a plan" scene was just hilarious. The film was very self aware, without going too far into parody territory. The scene of them dramatically walking towards the camera in a line while they adjust their pants, yawn, pick at their ears etc is a fine example of that. Ronan was a legit intimidating enemy and they showed just enough of Thanos to build him up, without ever delving too far into him to take away from when he eventually shows up full time in Avengers 3.

Just on the whole a really enjoyable film and I now love the characters, having not known much about them prior to this.

Most humorous part of the movie was Rocket asking for the dude's leg because he thought it would be funny... and then trying to do it again later on with another dude's eye.

I loved when Groot skewered 5 guys, hulk smashed them into 10 others, bautista was cuming in his pants, quill was like WTF? and groot turned around and smiled like a kid haha

Yeah Batista was gold. Pretty much everyone was great.

If anything, I'd say the villains were a bit one-dimensional, but it would have been way too hard to flesh them out and the gaurdians and still tell a good story within two hours, so it's forgivable. And they made up for it, by being completely believable as world wrecking badasses.

Just got back from it. Loved it. The most "fun" superhero flick ever made and really just visually stunning (the production design, costumes, make-up and special fx were all off the charts).

Ronan was a great villain, came across as a legit force, and Nebula was very impressive as well. Thanos intro was perfect.

Film was perfectly cast (including Batista). Soundtrack was amazing. So much fun.

The Dance-Off bit when Quill is distracting Ronan is perfect by the way. Even Ronan's reaction is just incredible.

I think the way all the action in the middle is bookended by the dance off at the end, and the dancing in the caves and using the little alien as a microphone at the start is absolutely perfect.

Also regardless of how old the joke is, I liked the "no raccoons or tree creatures were harmed in the making of this film" bit in the credits.

I was half expecting, even hoping a bit, that Ronan would actually accept the challenge.

THAT'S how much the movie kept me on my toes.

Great that they acknowledged the Rocket rivalry.

Haven't been able to find a clear enough video to confirm, but word going round is that Howard the Duck is actually a distraction from whats behind him. An opened cocoon. Adam fucking Warlock in the house.

So which gem was the orb?

Obviously the Tesseract was the Space Gem.
Loki had the Mind Gem on his staff in Avengers.
The Aether was the Power Gem.

Is the Orb the Soul Gem?

I saw this today. I, too, made a "Jackson Pollock". Just in my pants.

I was a little bit of a different beast here, because I had no clue coming in about Guardians, so I had no preconceived notions about what may get messed up except that they cast Bats... was worried from Wrong Side of Town and Riddick (you know... speaking roles. Man With The Iron Fists was okay, but he really didn't say shit in it) that he'd stink. Glad I was proven wrong.

It also (sort of) explained the corpse in Agents and kept hope alive that Sky is what I think she is.

Going by color, it would be the space gem.

They've been really vague, as far as what the power of each one is so far. Who freaking knows at this point?

James Gunn's stated that the orb was the Power stone while some Marvel Studios guy said that the Tesseract is the Space stone.

Why are they bothering to give each one a distinct color if they aren't going to go by what they are in the comics.

Not a huge deal mind you, I just don't see the point in rearranging the colors. Seems like a change for change's sake.

Rammsteinmad

They're probably not giving them distinct powers like "space" and "mind" etc because it's too vague in terms of people following all the movies and knowing which is which. Damn, I only saw Thor: The Dark World when it was in theaters, and to be honest I've already forgotten most of what happened in that movie, so most fans and especially casual movie-goers aren't going to remember that "so-and-so had the so-and-so gem in this movie". Probably much easier just to consider them all "fucking powerful artifacts", and then if they really want to go into detail, do it in a film where, for example, Thanos has all seven of them and can give a brief exposition(?) of them all at once.

Saw the movie yesterday. Second best Marvel movie. Right, like so close it can feel it's breath on the back of it's neck, behind Avengers. Just great all around fun from a cast of characters that there isn't too much backstory that people know. So they can fudge a few things. But god damn it was a fun ride.

And yeah, the Orb was Power. So far we've had Space(Tesserect), Mind(Loki's Staff), Reality(Aether), and now Power(Orb). All we're missing is Time and Soul and then Avengers 3 hits and it all comes together. ALSO! In a blink and you'll miss it moment we did kinda get a hint at Soul. In the Collector's Collection is Adam Warlock in his caccoon so we could be getting Soul very soon.

I can't wait to see what they do next.

Not really important to much of anything, but I wonder if "12%" is going to be some dialogue quirk thing in the movieverse. Starlord had 12% of a plan, Stark/Potts had 12% of the credit/a moment... wouldn't be surprised if it were inoccusously thrown in other movies/Agents going foward "just because".

Just saw it. Definitely enjoyed it. Not as good as Winter Soldier, but still pretty sweet. Can definitely see more "casual" fans being confused by this movie. Tried to cram a lot in there.

Well, I'm not a "comic guy" myself, though I do know some things about the Marvel Universe, but before seeing this movie, I pretty much knew absolutely nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy, though I did read up on the main characters before seeing the film, just to know what their names were.

Anyway, I knew nothing about GotG, but I thought this film was fantastic and I wasn't confused at all by anything in the film. I personally found the movie to be very easy to follow and to understand, and I also didn't feel like I was watching a movie based on a comic.

I would actually go to the cinema to see the film again, though in 2D, as my friend booked to watch the 3D version for some reason. Also, I enjoyed the film so much, that I may actually buy it on DVD when it's released, and I'm not a guy that really buys movies on DVD. If I do, it's movies that I thoroughly enjoyed and that I know I will never grow tired of watching.

I'm ok with that honestly. It's a nice little universal in joke that can be used in a variety of situations. And honestly, they've only used it twice. So there's that.

Don't see why they'd make that so hard to spot. He's fairly important, moreso than being an extra hidden easter egg.

Because 99 percent of the people watching the movie wouldnt get it.

There was not "point" to the scene". Neither was more important. They got to show 2 things, one of hardcores, one for the "general" masses.

Warlock will be huge when he shows up, and he will be introduced in a way that wont be related to that scene at all

Caught the movie yesterday. Had a lot on my mind, and the movie totally helped calm me down, relax, and care about it. Been spinning the 'Awesome Mix Vol. 1' since the drive back home from the theater.
