* Alberto Del Rio is out to kick off Smackdown. He says John Cena wasted his pick on Daniel Bryan because Cena is scared of him. Del Rio says he's chosen Ricardo Rodriguez as his SummerSlam opponent. Out comes Vickie Guerrero. Vickie makes Rob Van Dam vs. Christian vs. Randy Orton with the winner facing Del Rio at SummerSlam for the World Heavyweight Title.


1 - Cody Rhodes defeated Jack Swagger with a quick roll-up. After the match, Josh Mathews interviewed Cody but Damien Sandow attacked him from behind.


2 - Big E Langston defeated Sin Cara. Cara went for a springboard but Big E caught him with his finisher for the win.


3 - CM Punk defeated Fandango. Punk won by submission with the anaconda vice.


4 - AJ Lee defeated Kaitlyn with the Divas Title on the line. After the match, Layla turned on Kaitlyn and left with AJ.

6 - Christian defeated Rob Van Dam and Randy Orton to become the new #1 contender to the World Heavyweight Title. Christian will face Del Rio at SummerSlam. Christian rolled Orton up for the win after Orton hit a RKO on RVD. SmackDown ends with Del Rio attacking Christian.

2ND biggest PPV of the year. It pains me to admit but Orton should probably have been the one to go over. Christian needs more of a gradual build to another World Heavyweight Championship match, and R.V.D., although looking better than ever has simply not been back near long enough for another WWE or World Heavyweight Championship match at this point.

Here's the thing with Christian...

His face run as champion on ECW was amazing to me. His promos and the random things he did during his matches to make the heel look silly like the slide between the top two turnbuckles into a kick in the face were awesome little things that he could only do as a face. He seems like he has fun with being a face when he's not asked to carry the company or anything. I like it.

I might have gone with RVD vs ADR for SummerSlam because it's a bigger draw and I don't think ADR is gonna lose to title to anyone at SummerSlame anyway but Christian getting some mic time in a main event feud is a good thing.

Out of the three, Christian was a good choice.

Unless the idea is for Orton to win both titles, no real reason why he's going to get involved in another title feud when he has the bigger WWE title to go after because of his MitB case.

RVD just came back and would make a Del Rio vs RVD match a bit too obvious in Del Rio keeping the title.

Christian has history with Del Rio and is reliable enough to put on a good match with him. Doubt he's going to win at Summerslam but it does give Del Rio a new feud to work with.

I feel like RVD winning the title would have been more likely than Christian winning the title. If it was RVD vs Del Rio, I might think they would try to ride the hype for RVD being back to the WHC, which would actually raise it's prestige a little in my opinion.

Christian has kinda leveled out and at this point he seems more like just the guy they threw in as a default because Ziggler's moving on to Big E.

I'm glad Christian won, for purely sentimental reasons. And come on, Del Rio vs. Christian is an awesome match and there is plenty of history there for them to play off. I actually feel like Christian is elevated by earning this title shot. I'm not sure if he will win the title or not, but I would mark out if he did. They could bill it as his "one more match." Are people really invested in that story? Hmm, they might be after Christian beats Orton and RVD in a Triple Threat Match. They're at least trying to make people care about Captain Charisma.

This feels like a courtesy push to me, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Alex Riley is a pretty good commentator, too. He's not JBL good, but he managed to make me kind of like The Miz and want to see him succeed as a babyface. It'll be interesting to hear how Riley puts over Christian and gets the audience involved in his story.

I liked Punk/Fandango and the Triple Threat a lot. Alex Riley did a fairly decent job on commentary too. I felt like Del Rio played his role well this week as well. The dude is so much more natural as a heel in WWE.

The Christian push seems kind of weird. They had Orton and RVD congratulate him after winning as if the company knows that each is more over than Christian. So why push Christian? I wonder if they are going to plan something where they have Orton and RVD added to the World Title match to make it a 4-Way, leaving Christian with a legitimate gripe.
