Joanna Newsom and Sufjan Stevens.

I know there are those that lurk in the music forum that are into indie/folkie stuff and/or have a broader palette when it comes to music, like Mitchables (invoking your name; come forth, beast!), so this is a request to those honoured souls.

I've been listening to both quite alot recently and want to find more acts in their vein (preferably with their own identity). I'm leaning more towards the folkie-aspects of their sound.

So, if you are willing and able, hook me up with some musical goodness.

P.S.
Blitz, go fuck yourself.

Yours sincerely,

El Vaq

How is Taboo's dancing on the cd? He makes everything better!

So Whiteyford has hooked me up with Trespassers William, who kinda sound like a band you would have heard in a 90's teen drama, but I don't mind them. They will be investigated further.

Came across Gregory and the Hawk through my own investigations

The vocals remind of Jenny Lewis sometimes.

lo, i have come. not listening to a tonne of folk lately, but various bands with sufjan-esque indie pop leanings and/or folksiness that i quite enjoy include:

mice parade (check out their self-titled)
american analog set (try know by heart)
reverie sound revue
amy milan
broken social scene (try the self-titled or forgiveness rock record for lush intrumentation)
sparklehorse (particularly it's a wonderful life; probably the best introductory record for him)
snarky puppy (kind of fusion-y, honestly, but lots of horns and jazzy pop change-ups)
house of brothers (i think they have only released two EPs, and i actually didn't hear the second - but the first was pretty great)
the dodos
owen
the reign of kindo
sarah blasko (aussie lady)
holly throsby (also aussie lady)
junip (swedish folk/psych rock)
the cinematic orchestra
the good life (try album of the year)
esther holt (another aussie lady)
snowy belfast (above aussie lady's now-defunct folk/indie-pop band)

hopefully there'll be something in there that you like.

Selena Gomez's album " Stars Dance" is a must listen. Her first single "Come and Get It", combines atmospheric jazz and soozaphonic sounds to create a masterpiece that is as triumphic as it is mysterious.

Here are some really similar artists I like and whom I think you would also like, if you haven't already checked them out

Animal Collective - seems like if you would feel aversion towards them if you haven't heard them but they are mad similar. Lots of earlier stuff is really "folky" (Sung Tongs, Feels, Prospect Hummer EP). Feels hard to imagine liking Joanna Newsom but not liking them tbh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzLCgopwJV8

Owen Pallett - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVABrmC-MNg

Jens Lekman - always reminds me of sufjan stevens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euBAbwxF-e8

Some others:

Nico - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_z_UEuEMAo
mum - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDZybFn3L3Q
tune-yards - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71ng3kSlWGI
Vashti Bunyan - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYpccdzBvuE
Sibylle Baier - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY_F0mPq7ec
CocoRosie (I never really got into them but every1 compares them to Joanna Newsom)
Panda Bear - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tq7E-6wf5Q
Destroyer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfuDbWD_PIk

Actually here is a Spotify playlist of some of the songs I linked to here if you want:

With Gertie's penchant for wire coat hangers, that is not surprising.

I got her "Leche" album today and I am quite enjoying it. Check her stuff out if you haven't already.

This music is atrocious. No wonder why they are indie bands. Too shitty to be signed to a major label.

Anyways, you should czech out Juicy J "Bandz A Make Her Dance" featuring 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne. Amazing twerk song.

We used to sing that song in kindergarten. They stole it from our school's music room.
