Would be excited for this 10 years ago.

Rampage bitches about facing wrestlers in the UFC, and promptly agrees to fight against a guy who built his career off ground and pound.

Pretty much that.

Tito flinching at Rampage and Rampage not even noticing is my favorite thing ever

Its sad because even though I understand the marketing, Eddie Alverez is prolly the best fighter, not in the UFC today and he, and Chandler have to play second fiddle to a nontitle retirement fight

This is prolly the beginning of the end for Bellator

Hopefully WSOF can substain and sign a new tv deal next year

Bellator dumped its entire womens roster today too. If this pay per view flops, I would not be surprised at all if Bellator shuts down within the next year.

As great as Chandler, Alvarez and Askren are, Uriah Hall is a bigger Twitter following than all of them and he's just a runner up on the Ultimate Fighter. I know Twitter isn't the best indicator of popularity, but it does show how much better the UFC is at getting new fighters exposure and creating stars compared to Bellator.

Yeah but like when wwe bought wcw, ufc needs compitition

Us fans also need bellators and strikeforces so non ufc fighters have have a place to become/remain relevant

Next Big Thing
08-14-2013, 11:54 AM
Why does the UFC need competition? Dana's motivation will always be to have the best matches and best fights possible. Look at the slate of fights they are putting on from now until December. Does it look like the organization is slacking off.

MMA is real, whereas WWE is scripted. WCW pushed Vince to have better storylines, gimmicks, etc. I don't think the UFC needs that kind of push. In fact, the existence of inferior products like Bellator hurts us as fans, because it was Bellator that stopped Eddie Alvarez from going to the UFC in the first place.

I don't hear anyone complaining that MLB, the NFL or the NBA need competition. The best play against each other in those leagues and as a fan, I want to see the best face off in the UFC. Those other organizations serve a purpose as great feeder organizations, but the UFC doesn't need a "WCW". MMA fans aren't like wrestling fans. Vince can count on the majority of fans tuning in whether the product is great or garbage because it's more like a weekly story. If the UFC puts together a card people don't want to see, the gate attendance and buyrates will show it.

From a fighter perspective, I understand why another high profile organization is desirable. I'm sure those guys would love to have somewhere to fall back on and secondary organizations probably give them some leverage in negotiations. I don't blame them for that.

However, that has no real impact to me as a fan.

Kris P Lettus

Places like that give guys like marquart a place to stay relevant or a guy like for a guy like eddie alverez to become relevant

Without that kind of exposure, you will have tuf to feed in new recognizable talent

Shrinks the market, I don't see how you think thats a good thing for ufc

Next Big Thing
08-14-2013, 12:07 PM
I'm not saying these organizations aren't important, but they should be looked at as the minor leagues or feeder moreso than "WCW" level competition to the UFC. Just like baseball has its own minor league system. Most fans don't know who certain baseball players are until they're called up to the big leagues and made bigger stars by that exposure. You can't name another 155er in Bellator outside of Chandler that's an interesting match up if Eddie wins or vice versa. Those guys are better suited in the UFC.

Also, I could argue that TUF made Uriah Hall a bigger star and gave him more exposure than fighting for Bellator has for Alvarez and Chandler.

Like I said, I see where these organizations serve some purpose as feeder systems, but when the organization prevents intriguing matchups like Alvarez versus any UFC 155er or has to bring in guys made in the UFC like Rampage and Ortiz to headline their pay per view because their own homegrown talent aren't big enough stars, it's more or less in the way.

Next Big Thing
08-14-2013, 12:08 PM
I think the UFC's relationship with Invicta is the perfect example of how an organization can develop talent and hold its own shows while still not inhibiting big time match ups from happening.

Kris P Lettus
08-14-2013, 12:30 PM
Tbh, I think zuffa should have kept wec or strikeforce around and just use that as the feeder

They could have done free cards on fs1 or 2

Next Big Thing
08-14-2013, 03:27 PM
I wouldn't have minded that either. I think they wanted to do that with Strikeforce, but Showtime was being difficult and Zuffa decided to just say fuck it.

Kris P Lettus
08-14-2013, 03:50 PM
Maybe they should restart wec

It seems like a lot of these smaller promotions get "too big for their boots" when they think their business model can scale up to include superstar UFC cast-offs.

Kris P Lettus
08-14-2013, 05:05 PM
I don't mimd the cast offs, its more about them trying to compete with the ufc instead of just knowing their role

Bellator has been successful for years but as soon as they step up and try to directly compete, they fail

If this was a spike card it would rival the highest ratings ufc ever got on cable, instead to will tank as a ppv

A running joke of mine when I watch MMA, I always feel that they need story lines. With Tito and Rampage in TNA the possibility of them having a story line may come true. The clusterfuck of storytelling in TNA is going to prevent them from having a pretty good story, so I hope they don't get one. Vicious story wish circle I choose to dance in.

King Mo vs Hardcore Kid 2 will be good bc of what happened last time

They signed Houston Alexander to fight Vlady on this card

I think the whole idea of cross promoting Bellator and TNA was actually a bad idea. By adding Tito and Rampage to the existing TNA storylines, it could possibly "cheapen" whoever wins the fight. People will say that the fight was fixed and that Bellator is nothing more than glorified "pro wrestling"

Side note, wasn't there a controversy going around for awhile in Pride that the matches were fixed?

i thought the same thing about having them doing storylines together will cheapenthe mma product

I kinda hope that one of them gets injured whilst doing something in TNA, (close to the event) so that Alvarez and Chandler can get top billing (also because it would be hilarious)

Looks like Bellator is letting Askren walk too. I could see him as the new Fitch. Just another curious move on their part as he's probably second to Alvarez as notable homegrown Bellator guys.

Kris P Lettus

Askren has elite wrestling but I think at this point he'll get smashed by any of the "ranked" ww's

Still gonna be a good addition to the UFC

I don't see any way Chandler doesn't kick Alvarez ass.

Tito is prol "less shot" and Rampage always moans about being taken down. Think we know what is happening thurr.

Main card

Light Heavyweight: Tito Ortiz vs. Quinton Jackson
Lightweight: Michael Chandler (c) vs. Eddie Alvarez
Featherweight: Pat Curran (c) vs. Daniel Straus
Light Heavyweight: Muhammed Lawal vs. Emanuel Newton
Heavyweight: Cheick Kongo vs. Vinicius Queiroz

Preliminary Card (Spike TV)

Welterweight Joe Riggs vs. Mike Bronzoulis
Lightweight Terry Etim vs. Patrick Cenoble

Preliminary Card (Spike.com)

Welterweight Jesse Juarez vs. Joe Williams
Featherweight Joe Camacho vs. Cleber Luciano
Light Heavyweight Brandon Halsey vs. Hector Ramirez
Lightweight Mike Guymon vs. Aaron Miller
Lightweight Darren Smith vs. Josh Smith

Not gonna lie, the actual PPV portion of the card is pretty excellent, and the spike lead in should be good as well. There has definitely been worse UFC cards lately, so I'm actually quite impressed.

I'll admit I don't really know much about most of the undercard guys, but if Bellator is smart they will be using some actual talented guys, who might get a boost from being on the card.

I can't imagine bellator believes they will make money off this card, as they have lost money (as far as I am aware) on the last few shows, but if this is actually a good showing, maybe it will help them turn the corner. If not, hopefully the UFC picks up a few really good prospects.

Oh and:

Light Heavyweight: Tito Ortiz vs. Quinton Jackson
Lightweight: Michael Chandler (c) vs. Eddie Alvarez

Light Heavyweight: Muhammed Lawal vs. Emanuel Newton
Heavyweight: Cheick Kongo vs. Vinicius Queiroz

Preliminary Card (Spike TV)

Welterweight Joe Riggs vs. Mike Bronzoulis

Tito/Rampage and Chandler/Alvarez are both tough picks though...but for entirely different reasons haha

That was a great fight. Thought Chandler shoulda won though but it was close. His face was a mess.

Kris P Lettus
11-03-2013, 12:55 PM
I had Alvarez winning 3-2. Chandler looked good but wasn't doing anything after the takedown to cause damage. Alverez' striking and damage won him the fight IMO.

King Mo looked horrible. He gassed hard in the first and Newton took advantage. RoyNelson gassed walking to the cage. Newton is like Machida and Jardine had a child and he was a black kid who loved hardcore music and Jesus.

The ending of Guymon and Miller was a sick display of BJJ.

Strauss is a beast.

Riggs looked better than I have ever seen him.

P.s. lol at Bjorn Rebney's face when they announced Eddie won.
