View Full Version : Is Rhyno underrated?

I remember watching Rhyno in WWE back in the day and he seemed like an impressive guy, certainly worth mid-card if not main event status, but they stuck him in the Hardcore division where they stick every ECW guy. He didn't get any big push as far as I know. He could squash people in the ring and his Gore is one of the deadliest finishers imaginable. I think the guy is underrated? Am I wrong here?

I really enjoyed him in 2001, just before he sustained his neck injury. When he got back, he never quite seemed the same, which is a shame.

Didn't be win the IC title at one point?

That was as far as I could ever see him going. Great look, great intensity, but that's all he ever really had going for him. No mic skills, and only average in ring ability at best. His best matchs were in the hardcore format. Take that away and they were nothing special. Hardcore division was perfect for him.

I think he was US Champion, not IC Champ. I do believe he got the Tag Titles with Tajiri at one point, though.

He was an awesome #HEEL in ECDub, but then again he was allowed to beat up women and then get on the mic and call people cunts and whores.

The GORE on Jericho is still one of teh best rasslin highlight reel moments.

The spear is probably my favourite wrestling move, so I tend to automatically like anyone who does a good spear.

Maybe not necessarily underrated, but under used and possibly under appreciated by a lot of folks. I loved Rhyno and his gore was insane. Seemed like he always made it look vicious, although I guess you could argue that was just as much, if not more the receiver selling it. Although he was definitely suited for the hardcore style, I loved his work in 2001. After his injury, I never felt he got the quality recognition, return, storyline or ring time he deserved and he did seem to flat line after that for whatever reason.

watching him piledrive rvd through a table off the apron is still seared in my memory from seeing it live

I would still mark out for a Rhyno return. Maybe not in a major way. I could just imagine a cocky heel character in NXT calling out anyone in the back, because they're that fucking great, and Rhyno answering the challenge, proceeding to hit a Gore in a measly few seconds for the win. Put him over Aiden English another week and just have him squash guys and see if it gets over.

I love Rob Conway as much as the next guy, but I think Rhino might make a better choice for NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

I love Rhyno but I think he pretty much maxed out what he was able to. He peaked in ECW.

Rhino is just the right amount of rated.

in ECW, he looked huge compared to the rest of the roster. Then he went to WWE, and he looked average.

Compared to say, Luke Harper, who looked huge compared to the indies. Then he went to WWE, and he still looks a big man.

I hope Luke Harper gets booked just right.

Definitely. I remember when Rhino gored Super Crazy right into a row of free-standing lockers and knocked them over!

He's all flash and no in ring story telling, pretty much the opposite of a Michael Bay film.

He was another guy who was perfect for ECW but in WWF/E he just wasn't a big enough guy to be able to abuse and dominate like he did in ECW.

Overall I'd say more underused than underrated.

He was pretty boring in TNA. Like others said he didn't look as big in WWE so was unable to dominate like in ECW.

Wait. Michael Bay films are ALL flash and no storytelling.

He'd fit in perfect in the mid card in the WWE, possibly as some smarmy heels bodyguard like Sandow.
