View Full Version : Daniel Bryan is better than CM Punk in every way

Have come to the conclusion that Bryan is better than CM Punk is every way.

Bryan is a more interesting character
Doesn't rely on stupid worked shoots to get over
Better wrestler
Better crowd reaction
Has a better look

Bryan is a better face and a better heel than Punk has ever been in his career. Discuss.

Didn't you have a smear campaign going against Daniel Bryan for like 2 years?

Just saying he's better than Punk. Which he is. Punk is horribly over-rated.

Also, they are both incredible. It doesn't really matter who is better. They are pretty much on par with one another. If one is slightly better than the other, it isn't enough of a difference to matter all that much.

Relying on shoot promos or not, Punk is better on the mic and more charismatic.

Everything else I'd agree on. Though the better look is all in the beard.

My problem with you Gertner and many others on the wrestling forum is that you vastly exaggerate things and use absurdly extreme language to try to prove your points. I don't know if its a trolling thing or what but it isn't flattering. He isn't vastly superior in every way.

Charisma: probably Punk
In-ring: very close. I'll go Bryan by a hair.
Promos: Punk
Look: Punk
Marketability: close. Hard to argue with Bryan right now.
Crowd Reaction: probably have to go with Bryan at the moment, but to be fair, the "yes" thing is just ridiculously fun to do in person. People will probably still do it when Bryan is gone.

They're pretty similar, to be honest. One isn't "vastly superior" to the other by any means. If you had me pick one at gun point, Id probably go with Punk at the moment in time but not by a landslide.

I can't say anything bad about Punk... Chicago guy, Cub and Pepsi fan...

What Mingo said is true. But I think people hate Punk more when he's a heel.

Both are very enjoyable, right now though... I care more about what Bryan is doing.

I remember when he started teaming with Kane is when Gertner started deciding he thought he was doing well because it was a perfect spot for him. He would make it sound like he just despised Bryan the man to fuck with everyone treating him like a God but in reality I think he just didn't like the idea of his position as a "top guy".

I think Punk's only edge on Bryan right now is on the mic. Though this very well could be the writers just not giving him the material or giving him the free reign they give people like Cena and Punk.

punk has always been better on the mic, bryan has always been better in the ring. that still holds true to this day. other than that, i think they're pretty even overall.

they have been my top 2 on the roster for a long time so i'm not gonna argue with that. remember bryan's mic work when he was the heel champ in ROH and it was really good. he's definitely got the skills to be where he's at right now.

I find Bryan to be way more entertaining than Punk on the mic.

You really think he's way better? I need some context here. The Rock is way better than Alex Riley on the mic but I wouldn't say he's WAY better than Jake Roberts. He might be better depending on who's evaluating but WAY better? Punk/Bryan are both pretty comparable to each other. To say one of them blows the other one out of the water in any area seems a bit exaggerative. To me Punk is probably better on the mic because he "gets" subtle nuances and understands context more than most people in professional wrestling. To say that he relies on shoots too much may have some weight to it, but it's more because he understands people and he understands what people want to hear while still being a great performer. Vince Russo did tons of shoot promos right before WCW folded and they were mostly pretty awful aside from the initial shock value. What Punk does is definitely more than shock value, in my opinion. It's less about shoot and more about honesty. If his version of the truth happens to involve something real, he simply doesn't exclude it. I've never felt like he's gone out of his way to shoot on people for no reason or just to get fanfare. At least not anything I've seen him do.

Bryan is particularly good on the mic lately but he's never really been known as "that guy," and there's a reason for it. He's really evolved as a performer since his stint in WWE and he continues to evolve every week. I think he really came into his own during the "Team He'll No" period. His promos lately have been solid as fuck but they are some of the first really stand out promos I've seen him do. He seems like he's evolving at a pretty rapid rate as far as mic skills go, but Punk has a much larger body of solid promo work than Bryan. Even Bryan's promos over the past couple of weeks are a little clunky at parts here and there. When he gets emotional, he immediately starts yelling instead of building into it a bit more like Punk would probably do. I know it's nitpicking a bit but it is the difference between a stellar promo man and a really good promo man.

Like I said, both are pretty comparable to each other and I wouldn't go out of my way to passionately sing the praises of one over the other but if forced to give an answer, I'd say Punk is probably a better promo man and Bryan is probably better in-ring.

People who watch magicians want to know how they do their tricks. People who watch wrestling want to know how they do their "tricks". Punk is the magician who tells people how they do their tricks. It's easy to do, and it gets old fast.

You're oversimplifying things though and I think you're doing it on purpose. To say he's a one trick pony is a little dishonest. Your responses are feeling a little "trolly" on the subject. At the very least, they seem less than objective. Punk has done plenty of non-shoot promos that have been wonderful. His SES work was some of the best work he's ever done and there was rarely any shoot-like material involved in those. Punk definitely has more to offer than you're making it sound. You make him seem like he's very one dimensional and I don't get that impression at all, and I don't think most people here get that impression either. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Even as he currently is, Punk hasn't done any "shoot style promos" since his feud with Triple H pretty much.

He does still have a, I dunno, "realistic" promo style, but he is hardly telling everybody how "the tricks are done".

Give the edge to Bryan in terms of being a face, crowd reaction, and character/gimmick but Punk has the edge in terms of promo skills and being a heel. Wrestling skills they are pretty even with maybe a slight edge to Bryan now because of his constant showcasing by the WWE.

Bryan's biggest strength so far is being able to take anything negative or small and turn it into something huge in the end. He managed to take what should have been a momentum killing Mania squash into becoming his current "Mania moment" and gradual rise to mega popularity.

Well. Yeah. I agree. But to be fair, it's not like he orchestrated the fan's reaction at Wrestlemania. That was kind of a freak thing that just took on a life of its own. Kudos to him for realizing what he had once it happened though.

The thing is, Punk doesn't cut "breaking the fourth wall" promos all the time. In fact, he didn't really do it at all until the sit down promo and he was still cutting stellar, effortless promos. He hasn't done it much lately either.

Not only that but Bryan has done it more in his feud with Cena than Punk has in quite a while.

Daniel Bryan's promos the last few weeks are incredible. CM Punk's own promo style has gotten very dull and monotonous.

I think the Yes Lock is more of a mark-out finisher too, as a tap out is kind of the ultimate victory.

Punk's promo style is too close to that WWE droning 10 minute speech filled with padding like someone trying to hit their 1,000 word requirement on an essay. So many of his promos are so long that it's easy to zone out in the middle.

Daniel Bryan is a bit awkward but it's preferable to what Punk's been doing. Hell, Lesnar's video package was better than Punk's. I listened to every word.

Punk was working out in the fitness center at the hotel I was working. Some fans were trying to take pictures, asking for autographs, ect. Punk freaked out, threw a fuckin dumbbell across the room and yelled at the fans to leave him alone.

I never had anyone bother me for photos when I'm working out. I'm sure it can be frustrating. But I don't think Daniel Bryan would do that, though.

I know Hogan or Cena wouldn't.

My thread was not related to Striker's WWE contract.

I didn't post the Punk one to be flattering to him - if you watch it , he comes across as kind of douchebaggy even through the rose tint of the WWE cameras. A guy is proposing to his girlfriend (who is in a wheelchair), and Punk can't go 10 seconds without sticking his head in the frame to squeal "EXX-CUSE ME, I'M TRYING TO CUT A PROMO HERE!!!" - it's like "we realize you're still here, the attention's all on you buddy" :shifty:

I've got to disagree. You don't seem to understand sarcasm and joking do you? He was making sure people people around knew something important was happening. He made everybody chant YES to make the moment more special for the couple. It wasn't about him at all it was about two of his fans getting engaged.

From what I've gathered about CM Punk, he doesn't mind when people genuinely just say "Hi" or "what's up" to him, but he doesn't like when he's on his free time and people fawn over him. I mean you're putting yourself in the limelight you need to expect people fawning over you, BUT I see where he's coming from, I wouldn't like being stopped every where I went.
