I feel like maybe Sin Cara getting hurt 20 seconds into his match may have left them with too much time to burn.

I too wondered if Cara's injury was legit and if so, how much it would have an impact on the show.

So...what vehicle will "Stone Cold" Daniel Bryan be driving into the arena??? The world wants to know.

Stone Cold Daniel Bryan.

"YES" is the new "WHAT".

Instead of beers he chugs down organic papaya juice after his matches.

Going to probably drive a Zamboni to the ring later and spray Orton, HHH and Steph with some.

I think they coulda just done so much more with it. They have the entire roster out on the ramp, Bryan by his lonesome with his bosses in the ring. They could've done a much better "public humiliation" play there, but instead he just gets roughed up by the Shield a bit and then RKO'd... like they had this whole elaborate plan then really had no way to tie a bow on it. Otherwise awesome segment though, heel HHH is so good

I fail to see how that ending was underwhelming at all. The motives were explained. We have clarity that the McMahons are now a cohesive unit and, presumably, have formed a new version of The Corporation. They trot out the hero only to be huge dicks and have him get the shit beaten out of him. Even then, he got offense on The Shield. The roster was there, but they couldn't intervene. And let's be real, Cena just left and he's the only guy on the roster who would normally say "fuck it" and help anyway.

You can't blow your load and have Bryan beat the fuck out of people right away like some people seem to want to have happened.

Even though a lot of you are pissed about the ending, I enjoyed the show like you did, and don't feel like Bryan was buried at all. He is the main event now. Its corporation part two and this is the build of a new Austin. Might not be as good, but he is in great position to be the #1 face for a while.

...you mean the Stone Cold Steve Austin that, following a savage beatdown, would still have to be restrained from coming back to get more? I don't remember Austin's big run starting with him walking cautiously down to a ring, letting himself be ambushed, then taking his opponent's finisher. Austin mentality would have been to attack the Shield before they could attack him.

My issue with the segment was the same as RDD's. They just set it up well with Bryan getting thrown out of the building and then finding his way back in so you just feel like "Oh, shit's about to go down..." and then he just gets attacked and that's it. It was underwhelming.

Think y'all are missing the point. Top face in company doesn't intrinsically mean he has to follow the exact mold of Austin at the top. That would be silly. Bryan's character has NEVER been a parallel to Austin's. Having Bryan come out "guns blazing" and mowing down the Shield and sliding into the ring and nailing everyone with finishing moves n shit would be totally out of character for him. He's always been kind of a meek character, not some gun-toting beer-swilling redneck who's abrasiveness is his calling card.

Of course, you do want your top guy to be booked to look strong (give it more than one show), but to chastise the WWE for not booking Bryan exactly like Austin is ridiculous.

And even then, if they did, people would be whining that "they've seen this all before". Same old IWC.

Ugh, no. Stop it.

"He shouldn't come out like a dumb asshole" doesn't mean "he shouldn't come out at all". If he had a weapon or something, he could have come out without being a lamb to the slaughter.

See, I disagree. Bryan will more than likely be in many situations in the next few months, maybe even next week - where he wants to get his hands on Orton/HHH/Vince but has to get through the Shield, Maddox, and whoever else they want to add assuming it does become a proper stable. I figure it'd make more sense for Bryan to seriously "snap" later on. Having him maniacally running out with a kendo stick (same weapon he beat Orton with a few months ago) would be a much cooler moment if it happens after he's already been fucked over/fell for the trap.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree. Its too soon, under the circumstances we saw on TV, for Bryan to have the upper hand that quickly. Daniel Bryan can take a beating, but he can also give one. If Daniel Bryan looks too good tonight, the heels don't get anything out of it. Bryan has already been established as the underdog, let the heels establish themselves a little bit more, then you can have some more give and take.

RAW was good this week even with the ending being a bit weak.

Do agree that Bryan coming back after being kicked out was a bit of a let down since all it lead was him getting beaten up several times but it did establish that The Shield are now part of the new Corporation.

I see nothing wrong with the way the story went tonight. Fact is some are comparing this to Austin who is 6'2 252lbs, while Bryan is 5'8 200 lbs. it makes perfect sense to me that he got worked over.

What would make me question this is if they had DB surprise the McMahons somehow, as if Noone has ever messed up a "coronation" before.

They were expecting it, and sent the message. It may happen for a month straight, but when It's DB's turn to strike back, that's how this story will be defined, and how high DB's star can go.

So you would rather Bryan be the first face in the history of wrestling to get unjustly kicked out of the arena and look like a huge bitch by not trying to come back? Glad you're not in charge.

As opposed to what he did, which was to stroll right up to the evil power machine, ostensibly believing their clearly empty promises and succumbing to the beatdown?

And yeah, I'd have rather seen him be the first guy to do that because at least it would have been something new. I'd rather had them keep Bryan off the rest of the show and let the crowd simmer over it. Do the same thing next week, except at the end of the show cut on the Tron to Bryan sitting on top of a limo informing the bosses that he's learned from the things that happened to Austin, Foley, Rock, and Cena, and that he isn't going to play their little game. Talk about how he understands that it only feeds into their sense of power. Have him shake up a can of spray paint like he's going to deface the limo, then toss it aside and say he doesn't have to do that because it wouldn't get him what he wants. Pick up a sledgehammer and make to swing it, and then just drop it and say that doesn't get him what he wants. He doesn't need to wreck things, because he isn't Stone Cold.

The notion that Bryan HAD to come out is conventional, but it's stale and boring. This was the establishment of the new heel machine and no, Bryan shouldn't have come out on top, but making Bryan look like a brainless moron was just a dumb move.

Terrible Terrible Raw tonight due to a few reasons

1) Nobody was talking about the travesty that befell Christian at Summerslam when he was screwed out of the WHC by a crooked referee.

2) Christian didn't even appear, except at the top of the ramp at the end of the show.

3) It looks like Rob Van Damn (ugh) is in line for the next WHC shot. Ricardo should have announced Christian, and Christian should have cut a killer promo and announced that he has been granted one more match.

4) Failing Ricardo introducing Christian, it would have been a really choice spot to reintroduce Hunico as a major babyface star. Since ADR is going on about how he is now a hero to all "lower-class" Mexicans, Ricardo could have found a "lower-class" Mexican who disagrees. Hunico cuts a killer promo about how ADR isn't his hero, and blah blah blah. Really, anyone would have been better than RVD.

Triple H like "we put our differences aside for business." Differences? Being members of opposing political parties is a difference that can be put aside. Allegiance to differing brands of toothpaste is a difference that can be put aside. Randy Orton trying to sexually assault and murder Triple H's wife is not a difference that can be put aside. Legit laughed out loud when he said that and couldn't stop giggling for like 10 minutes.

He did it for the future. He did it for his children. You know what would've also hindered the future lives of his children? Randy Orton ruthlessly murdering their mother in cold blood in front of thousands of people.

Mr. Nerfect

The McMahons have also beaten each other up. Triple H has left Stephanie at the alter. He originally drugged her to marry her in the first place. Vince has been Pedigree'd and he has tried to have been put out of business by Steph. The McMahon Family care about one thing -- money. One day, years down the track, it would not surprise me to see Triple H backing Daniel Bryan, referencing the money Bryan has made him over the years as being a reason he is now cool with Bryan, as opposed to making his life hell.

Nark Order
08-20-2013, 05:42 AM
After fully watching RAW and Summerslam, I have a better understanding of this whole angle and am not in a blood rage about it really anymore now that I have more context, but I still remain that it would've benefitted everybody much more if Bryan just won. It's going to be very difficult to keep these types of attitude era-esque reactions for Bryan going forever and they should've struck while the iron was hot. Also, the whole premise doesn't really make that much sense. Hunter did this for business but the entire arena goes batshit for Bryan every night, buys all his merchandise, buys tickets to see him, and won't stop chanting his name? In kayfabe terms, they should fucking love this guy and all the cash he's raking in. They would've been better of just saying they didn't like him.

Really worried they won't be able to stretch this out all that long and that Bryan's immense popularity won't be capitalized on properly. Have a hard time thinking he'll ever be as over as he was at Summerslam, especially after RAW where they just completely buried him.

Mr. Nerfect
08-20-2013, 05:43 AM
That was always my problem with the Austin/McMahon angle, too. It's no secret that Austin was making shitloads of cash for the WWE. But Vince still hated it.

Nark Order
08-20-2013, 05:51 AM
Well at least with Austin/McMahon it was acknowledged that they didn't like each other and all of the shenanigans played off of that fact. Triple H said that he actually liked Bryan but had to do it for business. From a kayfabe business perspective, they should be worshipping Daniel Bryan right now. Now, I only have a basic understanding of business but it seems like you'd probably endorse a guy that was selling out your arenas and selling merchandise faster than anyone can make it. BUT WHAT DO I KNOW.

Mr. Nerfect
08-20-2013, 05:54 AM
But that goes to the same point. Vince tried to fire Austin and have him stopped all the time, but he was undoubtedly the biggest star of the Attitude era. Triple H can say one thing and mean another. He's a heel now.

Ring gear can represent a wrestler. I never said Cody needed to change. I just think switching to longer tights would give him a fresher look and maybe look a bit more like a babyface. He doesn't need to do it, but I think it would aid. Like when Chris Jericho turned heel in 2008, switching to the super-serious short trunks helped change the vibes Jericho gave off. Or when The Miz did the same thing when he dropped the shorts for the trunks.

Plain Jane, run of the mill black trunks worked for Austin because he was "no-nonsense" and had no time to worry about such things. Black trunks, please, and step on it. I would contend that if Austin had worn much of anything else, he wouldn't have given off the same vibe. When he was a heel he did shake things up with different colored knee braces.

Who does Bryan take out first guys? Who is the pawn in this new corporation that gets taken out on Smackdown? or next weeks Raw? Hope they put him over Ryback in the lead up to NOC.

I'd love to see Vickie Guerrero stand tall and give Big Show, Dolph Ziggler & Daniel Bryan a six-man tag against The Shield on SmackDown. Also, Big Show should not be afraid of The Corporation, since he has an iron-clad contract. I do think that maybe they should have him align with Triple H and co., though, just to make his life easier. Maybe you can have RVD or Christian win the World Heavyweight Title between now and then and Big Show can take that from them as a reward for selling out. Show can dispatch of the face in the rematch, then take out Mark Henry. Finally, you have Dolph Ziggler prove he can win the big one against the biggest guy on the roster.

Daniel Bryan beat the WWE Champion clean at SummerSlam. In kayfabe, he is an A+ Superstar. Calling him "B+" is a heel delusional lie. Saying you like him but he can't be allowed to success is inane.

In kayfabe, they still find him to be a B+ superstar because winning matches still isn't all it takes. They don't think he has the size/look to carry the company. It's heelish because he's actually successful and they wanna hamper that... but it's not "delusional" for them to consider him an A+ wrestler but a B+ superstar.

I guess that's why the crowd was dead when he came out. Like it was dead at MITB when he won the briefcase in the first place.

Like it was dead when his music hit at SummerSlam? Then when he pinned Bryan at SummerSlam?

Oh wait...

God I loved that Raw. I really thought that they were going to pretend to be slightly facey and let Bryan into the ring and just talk, but the Shield taking him out and Bryan almost taking all 3 of them if it wasn't for that sneaky spear was damn good. Then HHH with the patronising pep talk before the RKO.

I felt that The Nexus was ruined after their first PPV despite holding out hope. I think the Raws after Punk won the title at MITB were a let down... But this. This had everything awesome at Summerslam and then actually followed up on it well straight away.

This looks like a long build and I really hope it's a good multi-month program. Especially with Cena out of the picture.

It's an awesome storyline. Someone I think will be on DB's side..it'd be cool if it was Punk.

Oh come on. Everyone gets a great reaction when they cash in. Even Jack Swagger.

Well Swagger did cash in against a heel as opposed to the most over guy in the company whom the crowd was completely in love with.

I'm also coupling that with the fact that Orton had consistently been over/getting good reactions already. The guy is over even despite not doing anything of note for the better part of a year.

that Spear Roman Reigns hit on Bryan did not look good for his shoulder.

These guys are gonna be huge

Well, if nothing else they've found an opportunity to re-purpose the Portuguese Man of War's spare masks.

First thing I thought of when I saw this was:

Then again, they should make this another 3 man team/stable, and incorporate this:

Instant championship material!

Apparently the names of Los Matadores are going to be Torito and Torlito.

My favorite moment from this gimmick came during the '92 Royal Rumble...

Bobby Heenan: Shawn Michaels is making Guacamole out of El Matador!

Gorilla Monsoon: HE IS not!

Bobby Heenan: Look at his tights, they're green!
