How long can people see this character lasting ??

Not being a curmudgeon here, just honest: I already don't care about the character.

Neither do I. Would be better as a solo act and with a little less manufactured creepiness.

I like Bray Wyatt and the rest of the family.

Though they really haven't done much so far other than beat up people and Bray has had two matches, even though they've been around for very nearly two months now. They work the gimmick well, especially Bray. Him on the mic is fantastic, but that's about it really. I can't really say anything else about them because they've not really done much else that can be praised or criticised.

I will however say that their entrance could do with losing the "We're here" part.

It was all well and good for their debut and it actually worked fantastically well, but other than that, seeing the same video of them saying the same thing when it's supposed to be them doing it there and then, just gets a bit cheap after a while.

If they did the whole "We're here" bit live, then it wouldn't be so bad.

He'll probably appear with a bit of a beard and be part of The Wyatt Family.

AKA: They've brainwashed him.

They definitely don't have the impact the Shield had. Shield has been with Main Event talent since day 1. And there were no vignettes for them. I think constant weeks of promotion can lead to excitement, but usually ends up in disappointment.

The gimmick seems to be ok, but they haven't done anything really exciting yet.

Give it a minute. I'm sure they'll be involved in something noteworthy pretty soon.

I've only seen that match against Kane at Summerslam but I thought it was pretty sweet. More interesting than like 90% of everything else in wrestling.

It's so different from everything else that I think some people don't really know how to settle into it and just let it be. Papa Shango never had this problem because we were kids at the time. I love the flash cuts from the segments with the goat mask and the little scream or whatever. It stands out tremendously, and that's not an easy thing to do all the time.

Agree that the Shield had a bigger impact earlier on since they got to be involved with a lot of big stars while the Wyatt's have just worked with Kane.

The Wyatt Family is moving at a slower pace but makes sense since their gimmick is more story-based than the Shield which takes more time to develop.

The Wyatts would be so much better if they could use Ministry of Darkness-like innuendo. The faux satanism would get some evangelical press and more views from rebellious teens.

I liked Bray Wyatt's last promo on NXT. He seemed to have an "energy that could barely be contained by the ring" like some major superstars in the past have had (and John Cena lacks).

So I can see him being pretty big if the WWE lets him, and the fans take to him one way or the other.

Wake Up Call
08-26-2013, 01:53 AM
In my opinion, they need to stop the pack mentality, That's the Shields "thing." Let Wyatt be the head of the group, but also let him show he's the boss. He just comes off as a guy that needs help to win, why not let him dominate his first couple matches? Make him an absolute beast. Gives him credibility in the ring.

The only thing I see happening, is Kane comes back, they go inside the Hell I. A Cell, Kane wins, momentum is done and this group dies a slow death

I thought about the whole Kane "brainwashed" idea and they could actually use it as a plug for an Undertaker return down the line. Taker returns to claim Kane and bring him back. I dunno sounded good to me.

I think the tag team is Festus and Festus without a snappy Jessy character. The Festus's of destruction!

Bray Wyatt is more interesting than Husky Harris as a character, but his ring-work does nothing for me.

I think they just need some more time and a better feud.
I really think that they should have a face stable to go up against for a prolonged amount of time.

love the gimmick and the job he is doing with it. It is one of the best characters they have introduced in a long time. I liked Husky Harris and glad to see him in this role. Unfortunately, they get zero reaction when they come out so not sure how long it will last.

The LED lantern is stupid though.

Husky is fat. Almost an Oddities vibe to them rather than anything creepy.

parkmania
08-27-2013, 11:37 AM
The main problem I see with him is that he has no motivation to the character.

Why'd he leave the bayou? To recruit new family members? He had Kane and R-Truth both carried away, but they are still themselves. To spread the word? Okay, but his speeches haven't been focused on any specific thing. Did he come to "get" someone? We haven't heard anything of the sort.

So he's just a creepy guy? I guess, but there COULD be so much more to the character that just has not yet seen development.

The Condor
08-27-2013, 12:16 PM
Parkmania nailed it. There is no motive, the promos are meandering similes and metaphors. There is nothing to these guys (yet?). We'll see but I just do not understand what makes them so great and creatively stimulating to some people. I get Brad Maddox but I don't get these guys for whatever reason. It just comes across as a bastardization of the popular Duck Dynasty show going on now with a cult flair. That's all I get from it. Ministry of Rednecks. More rambling, and Im probably coming across like Tedious in the RAW thread (love ya buddy :) ). I just don't get it I suppose.

Fans want a payoff so quickly these days... Give it some time.

This is why there is NO tag division anymore. Fans are way too impatient, the second a team gets together people are already asking how/when they will break up. Guys used to tag together for at least 5 years before a breakup would be mentioned.

Very valid point. I think my issue isn't about giving these guys time, because I am, but more the unfounded hype and sheer amount of praise these guys have received for what has been nothing more than bland ring work and a different, though as yet undeveloped and weird gimmick. Can you be optimistic and have hope? Most definitely, but Im sick of being told how great and unique these guys are when most people would be willing to say that they haven't shown anything approaching those adjectives yet.

I thought Husky was the best promo man on NXT when he was on it, the stuff he did on the revamped NXT impressed me and he's been solid enough with what he's done since moving up to the main roster, the entire Wyatt family have been decent IMO. It's only been a few weeks though, they stand out but that's all they've had going for them, I'm personally glad it was Kane they got as their first 'feud' because he's a big name that they can afford to sacrifice cleanly as opposed to being hotshotted into a feud with Cena and being jobbed out or lost in the shuffle higher up the card.

Or don't blow out the lantern in the "we're here" part. Would make it seem like "OH SHIT HE JUST LIT THAT LANTERN AND NOW HERE HE COMES INTO THE ARENA AND THAT LANTERN IS STILL LIT!!!!!"

Go get some fresh air and discover what a woman's vagina looks like in real life.

Wyatt family has been awesome so far. I've actually really enjoyed the gimmick, and I think most real wrestling fans ( and by real, I do mean the 'marks'........not gaywad penis dick lickers like yourself) have as well.

Internet wrestling fans for the most part do not know what the fuck they are talking about.

It's people like you that probably criticized the HHH turning on Daniel Bryan angle at Summerslam.

Love this gimmick. I can see Kane and R-Truth having been brainwashed by Wyatt still. Kinda like a Manchurian candidate thing. They go on acting normal and then one day he snaps his finger and they do his bidding.

Fans want a payoff so quickly these days... Give it some time.

There's a difference between wanting a payoff too quickly and getting irritated when a highly touted new guy does next to nothing for over a month. The style in which the Wyatts were teased and debuted is an indication of "BIG IMPACT UPON DEBUT," and they've highly undelivered.

Let me further explain this.

The Fandango and Matadores vignettes aren't played for buildup, they're literally played to say "there is someone new coming, this is who they are." The Wyatt promos are more in line with the Y2J countdown clock; they didn't just say "someone new is coming," they said "someone new is coming and FUCK FUCK FUCK it's going to be awesome when they do!" Since they debuted the Wyatts have basically just continued to do the same style promos except now they're done from the ring, or backstage instead of the backwoods. Bray Wyatt had a shitty and awkward match with Kane, and it was far more useful as a way to excuse Kane to his movie set than it was to put Wyatt over.

Also from a personal level, the Wyatts' entrance doesn't excite me or pique my interest, it lulls me to sleep. Literally. A few weeks ago I was watching Raw and I actually fell asleep to their entrance and woke up to one of those cocksucker Sonic commercials.

Why do so many wrestling fans get hardons for cult leader and brainwashing gimmicks?

Dunno. Maybe because it allows certain characters to be fresh for a little while as part of the gimmick without the need for a complete turn or repackaging.

I think it's because when it's done right it's an awesome, somewhat realistic gimmick that isn't the typical, generic pussy that most heels portray nowadays. It's an intriguing character just like you'd want with any other TV show. And Bray Wyatt is fucking fantastic at playing it.
