Eminem was a star before he released the raw, masterful Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, but that’s the album that catapulted him into stratospheric cultural omnipresence. And later this year, he’ll follow it up with a sequel, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. Em made the announcement during last night’s VMA broadcast (http://www.stereogum.com/1446262/vmas-2013-comment-party-drinking-game/video/), advertising the new album in two Beats By Dre commercials. Beyond its title, its release date, and those two clips of music, we only know one thing: Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin both serve as executive producers. Based on those two clips of music, we can hear the discouraging reality that Em is keeping up with his all-too-intense speed-yell delivery, also in evidence on his recent single “Survival (http://www.stereogum.com/1439002/eminem-survival-feat-skylar-grey/mp3s/).” He’s also bleating about “straight hip-hop,” so things will almost certainly get into grumpy-old-man territory. On the other hand, he’s back to bleached hair and fisheye lenses, which is encouraging. And the two tracks we hear previewed lean heavily on Rubin’s old minimal guitars-and-808s energy, and one of them samples the hell out of Billy Squier’s “The Stroke,” a very good thing. Check out the two previews below.http://www.stereogum.com/1448051/watch-eminems-the-marshall-mathers-lp-2-teasers/franchises/commercial-appeal/

I liked his "Recovery" Album but for him to call this next album MMLP2 worries me. I don't think he can make another CD that was on that level again. Usually Album squeals are not as good as the original (Fat Joe's J.O.S.E. 2, although Fat Joe was never really great). But I'll give Eminem the benefit of the doubt a listen to it with an open mind. Hope he proves my doubts wrong.

Apparantly he will be releasing a song called "Beserker" today.

Hopefully he'll be able to talk about male blowjobs a lot and do impressions of them, but I don't know if he can still step it up man.

Also listen to Stan with a clear head and it's hilarious, if it wasn't already.

I've never met anyone who's been able to get through that track.

I'm happy. I like Eminem, but nothing was as good as the SS LP/MM LP. Relapse had some good songs but has an annoying style, same with Recovery. I hope this a return to form and less singing in choruses.

Spichuks favorite band peaked in 1987 so should we really listen to him when it comes to current music?

I think eminem is pretty talented when he wants to be but there are A LOT of shitty rappers out there.

I listen to it too, mostly out of habit, no favorite rapper right now because there is hardly any real lyricists out now that can also make a good song. There are A LOT of shitty rockers out there too

I agree with both parts of this post, but the good hip hop is harder to find for a mainstream listener who probably only hears Flo-Rida.

This is a GREAT album. As a on/off again fan since 1999, this is his best since the Eminem show. Love SS LP and MM LP1. I'm not that into his more pop flavored songs from Encore till around Relapse, which I actually liked more than Recovery. Relapse has a good amount of good songs for me to like it and ignore the few 'meh' songs. Recovery and Encore are the albums I listened the least.

So with that said I'd probably say Stronger Than I Was might be my least favorite track here and I'd replace it and "Survivor" as with 2 of the bonus tracks (Groundhog Day & Wicked Ways) and put those tracks on the bonus disc... and leave the Ken outro from Wicked Ways in the main album, maybe after Rap God or Berzerk. All in all, it's a really great and fun album and Eminem hasn't had this many consistently great tracks in a row on an album for a while.

The only thing is I wish somebody from D12, Dr. Dre or Royce Da 5'9 would have done something on this album.

Standout tracks:

Bad Guy
Rhyme Or Reason
So Much Better
Asshole
Rap God
Brainless
Evil Twin

(Bonus disc)

Groundhog Day
Wicked Ways

I haven't listened yet. But his last album was amazing to me. One of the best rap albums I've heard. So I'm curious how this one stacks up.

Pretty much what dronepool said. I have also been an on/off fan of Eminem's, and this album is definately his best since his earlier albums. Certainly the best since the Eminem Show.
