Was watching the latest HHH dvd last night and it got me wondering.

Which superstar do you think of when you see these titles and why ??

7339

HHH for mine, HHH made this belt mean something when it was brought in to the WWE, loved it back in the day of WCW and wasn't sure if it was gonna work

7340

Macho Man - Odd choice I know but when he won the title at WM IV was a big deal for me being a huge fan of the macho man

7341

Brock Lesnar, Taking this belt exclusive to smackdown and given the fact in his short run the first time around he held it majority of the time

7342

John Cena, hated this belt has soon as he brought it in. Looked ridiculous when it span, looked even worse when it stood still.

7343

The Rock - Attitude era, what more can you say, was a toss up between The Rock and Stone Cold due to these guys holding it so many times in the time frame.

Would love to hears other opinion on this .... Sorry if this thread has already been created.

* Triple H. He dominated the WHT when the title was first introduced (revived?) by Eric Bischoff, and even if I got frustrated by Triple H maintaining an iron grip over the championship, he certainly does have an iconic association with it.

* Bret Hart for some reason. Don't know why. I think I saw pictures of him with the belt when I researched the old design (I came in during the Attitude era).

* Brock Lesnar. An interesting piece of trivia: When this belt was used to represent the WWE Championship, only Brock Lesnar, Eddie Guerrero, JBL and John Cena won the title for the first time.

* John Cena. This was his championship. When he lost the title, I remember hoping that it would revert back to the old title. Edge destroying the spinner belt would have made me so happy.

* Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Flair or Edge. Edge owned that title when he had it, plus as everyone knows I'm the biggest Edge fan ever. So fuck you.

7340

Bret Hart/HBK

7341

Brock Lesnar, Taking this belt exclusive to smackdown and given the fact in his short run the first time around he held it majority of the time

7342

John Cena, hated this belt has soon as he brought it in. Looked ridiculous when it span, looked even worse when it stood still.

Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The current iteration of the World's Heavyweight Championship reminds me of Triple H's dominance and multiple reigns as champion on RAW. He is the key person responsible for the belt's prestige. I also associate Edge and Batista with the belt after it was drafted to the superior brand - Smackdown.

As a kid, I always visioned Bret Hart with the classic belt.

I started watching wrestling again in 2002 due to Brock Lesnar. I've always associated the undisputed belt with Brock Lesnar. The second closest (for me) is JBL for the crazy long reign he had.

John Cena created the spinner belt and has had it more than anyone on planet earth.

Although I had stopped watching wrestling at the time, the attitude era WWF Championship reminds me of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Because it was around the time I got back into wrestling after a bit away and became a lifelong fan. Plus Hogan/Sting is my favorite program of all time.

http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/179/706/wrestlingsavage_display_image.jpg?1269132225

Because I associate this one with the "old days" and nostalgia, and I was always more of a Macho Man than Hulk Hogan guy as a kid.

http://beltpics2.8k.com/images/jbl.jpg

Because the dude was such a great heel, and carried it with such class.

http://www.prowrestlingpowerhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/cmpunkhires.jpg

I know John Cena created the belt and all.... but Punk held the belt longer consecutively than anybody else, and pretty recently too. So the image of him and this belt are pretty ingrained in my mind. Sometimes I still find it weird when he walks out with no belt.

This is of the period of rasslin that has mostly faded from my memory. It doesn't fall into childhood nostalgia, or recent events, therefore it is hazier than the rest. I guess it is probably The Rock, though.

Christian really should have been given better runs with the title. I think he could have been a far more serviceable champion.

I'd just like to say that Alberto Del Rio has done a really great job as World Heavyweight Champion. People just associate him with that title far more than they do the WWE Title, which he has won twice before becoming World Champion. Del Rio's also spent almost 75% of the year as World Heavyweight Champion and has only been defeated via Money in the Bank cash-in.

A Del Rio vs. Cena rivalry over the World Heavyweight Title could be just what it needs to restore it to prominence.

WHC - Batista, but if it was the WCW title then Goldberg
Winged Eagle - Bret Hart
Undisputed - Undertaker
Spinner - CM Punk
Attitude - Triple H

Wow, some really odd choices :-\

Great thread! Here we go...

World Heavyweight: HHH obviously is the guy who gave this belt meaning so quickly within the WWE, but for me it was Edge that continued that legitimacy. Edge and Taker's epic feud is what always comes to mind when thinking about this huge hunk of gold.
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n303/tylerjay443/edgem.png
Honorable mentions: HHH, Batista and Y2J

Winged Eagle: This one is a little tougher for me. This was during my favorite time in wrestling and was the belt in use when I first started watching in '93. Back then this belt was in my dreams more than Paula Abdul, so to me, this is THE belt. While Hulk Hogan is the easy answer, I saw Bret Hart defend this belt live more times than I can even count, so for me its the Hitman. Closely followed by...Owen. Now, I know Owen never technically won the gold but at marathon Superstars taping in Portland, ME during the summer of '94 Owen defeated Bret in a lumberjack match and was awarded the title and officially announced as the new WWF Champion. The decision was later overturned and Bret escaped the Portland Civic Center with just me and the rest ofthe live crowd knowing just how close he was to relinquishing the strap to his younger brother. I know this shit happened/happens all the time at live events, but I was 8 and it was still real to me, DAMNIT!! I am lucky enough to think of this EVERY time i see that beautiful belt:

Honorable mentions: Hogan, Savage, Yoko and Diesel

Undisputed WWE Championship: BROCK FUCKING LESNAR!! Is the correct and easy answer. Oddly enough, for me, its the Hulkster. Now I know at that point he could barely carry a match, only carried the belt for a month and had no business with it in the first place, but it worked. Call me nostalgic but I was all about it. While JBL is another legitimate answer, the crazy resurgence of Hulkamania is what always comes to mind.
http://images.wikia.com/prowrestling/pt/images/0/0e/Hulk_Hogan.jpg
Honorable mentions: Brock, JBL and Eddie Guerrero

Spinner: Cena, always and forever, John Cena. This is HIS belt. I am so happy they are passed this piece of shit. I respect the hell out of Cena, but having a belt designed for a guy who wears jorts every night as the centerpiece of your company just wasn't hacking it. Imagine is the Smoking Skull belt was THE belt...for a decade?!? No, not how it works.
http://www.thegreatindiankhali.com/john-cena/images/john_cena.jpg
Honorable mentions: CM Punk, Edge and The Miz

Attitude Era: The Rock or Austin is the go to here. However, both of those guys got their own belt designs and were always bigger than the belt itself. For me, the answer is Mick Foley. Memories are what I go back to for each of these belts. In my mind, there is no greater memory for "Big Blue" than the night "Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy" ran laps around the ring before being hosted in celebration of realizing his lifelong dream. EPIC SHIT!
http://fightgameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/20130111_EP_LIGHT_HOF-Foley_C-homepage.jpg
Honorable mentions: Austin, Rock, Angle and Y2J

This was a lot of fun! Lets hope this new design inspires as many great memories as its predecessors so we can get together and talk about its greatness in another decade...ON THE MOON!

WHC/Big Gold Belt:
Flair. Split between Hogan and Flair but Flair had the bigger legacy with the belt than Hogan.

Classic Winged Eagle:
Hogan

Undisputed:
Lesnar

Spinner:
Cena. Similar situation with Austin's Smoking Skull belt since it was made specifically for him although his ended up becoming the de facto belt for the WWE title.

Attitude Era:
Stone Cold.

7339

Flair, it was "his belt" basically.

7340

Hogan. He was the man when I started watching and he looked naked without it.

7341

Lesnar, though I can't really say why.

7342

Cena. It's his bling.

7343

Austin, it was the belt of his era, he was the first to wear it and the last to lose it on it's own.

So basically you want to see somebody fellate Christian as champion. Got it.

Dunno. I'm not exactly nuts about the idea of Cena winning the belt @ HiaC and then being Mr. Unstoppable for 6+ months. Don't think they wouldn't do it. They did that multiple times during his WWE Championship runs, and despite claims to the contrary, I honestly don't think it did anything to generate more interest in the title, nor did it add to the prestige of it.

People don't really care about the World Heavyweight Title these days. The company sends mixed messages to us about its prestige. They promoted heavily on that RAW where they did Champion vs. Champion, but the title hasn't headlined a PPV since 2010 (almost three years now). The last time it truly looked like a top priority was when Sheamus used his Royal Rumble win to challenge for it. Cena headlines PPV just because he's John Cena. Him winning the title would do nothing but good for it.

Plus, Damien Sandow would win the title at some point. Beating John Cena for a title is far more impressive than beating most people.
