Not taking credit for this, but it's amazing.
Let's say Sandow wins the MITB. Sandow comes out one night and announces he has sold the briefcase to an anonymous person for an offer he couldn't refuse. This persons identity is and will be a mystery until they cash it in.
Can you imagine the suspense this would create? You'd never know who has it and they could cash in anytime and it'd be a gigantic surprise.
I thought it was an outstanding idea.

If MitB was around in the Attitude Era, Shane McMahon would have totally won it and sold it.

Would Shane McMahon have won it and sold it or would someone else have won it and Shane bought it?

I would totally watch rasslin alot more if they did that. In fact, so would the rest of the world.

We're due for another Native American super smash box office hit wrestler. A whole stable, The Tribe versus the Real Americans for supreme ownership of Oklahoma

This would be epic if done correctly.

Great idea, and I can imagine it being used as a heel turn to surprise a lot of people.
Say the anonymous MitB owner was someone like Sheamus or some super good guy you wouldn't expect to have dealings with Sandow, like Kofi, and for a while, he had been helping the WWE Champion John Cena out with some troubles with The Shield or some heel duo.
Then after a match that Sheamus/Kofi and Cena win, Sheamus/Kofi hits Cena with a Brogue Kick/Trouble in Paradise, he then cashes in his MitB and pins Cena straight away for the three count.

I can't imagine anyone just selling away a title shot, though.
Maybe Bray Wyatt? Wins and then he sells it because he doesn't "need the false promise". He then burns the money he gets from selling it, because he doesn't "need the false worth".

You could say "I don't need a briefcase to get a title shot", kinda deal.

The idea sounds interesting and could see Del Rio pulling that off if he fully re-embraces the Mexican aristocrat gimmick.

It would also be awesome if Sandow said he sold it to an anonymous person and then Cena starts a feud with the Wyatt Family with Bray playing mind games with Cena using his paranoia against him. Cena confronts Sandow and Sandow explains that he signed a contract and can't tell Cena who he sold the case to but shows some compassion for his situation with the Wyatts and tells him "It wasn't Bray."
The Wyatts end up attacking Sandow backstage for ruining things for them and continue to cause hell for Cena for a few weeks while Cena turns down everyone offering to help out of paranoia until Sandow returns and tells him "I want to take down The Wyatt Family... and I'm the only one in this company you can trust now." It leads to a 3 on 2 handicap match where Sandow gets a hot tag, comes in and immediately turns on Cena, beating him down with The Wyatts and then going under the ring and pulling out the MITB case and cashing it in.
It would be a fittingly genius idea by Sandow. The only MITB winner smart enough to come up with a way to get all eyes off of him so he could truly cash in unexpectedly.

That actually sounds good to me! If done ten years ago, then WWE could have brought in Indy tag team Native Blood (Steve Corino blogged about their knife edge chops one time) and rehabbed Tatanka earlier to be the third wrestler / manager.
Maybe throw in Mickie James under her Alexis Laree gimmick as the obligatory chick in the stable. Perhaps have the four known as Team Native win Tag, Intercontinental, and Women's Championships like Team Canada but obviously with the titles not quite being parallel to the WCW angle.

I clicked on this topic with the sole intention of mocking a terrible armchair booking idea, but fuck: That's brilliant.

Isn't this somewhat like when Ted Dibiase bought the WWF title from Andre and the powers that be nixed it?
Wouldn't this be very similar to that and have the same outcome?

You could always have it held up, and then have a rematch between the guy who cashed it in and the title holder at the time and put it on ppv. Could always avoid the Andre situation by saying it only applies to the title.

The thing I like about this as you have someone sell it and wait a while till you find a wrestler who is getting very over and say he bought it. That's the beauty of it being a mystery. Actual thought could be put into this and not a rash decision.

That's the beauty of being able to rewrite the rules to suit any given situation. Especially when the precedent is from 27 years ago.

Rikishi sold it for The Rock. :shifty:
No but seriously, that is a good idea. The only downside is, how do you justify someone selling off their MITB contract? The whole idea of the WWE Championship is it is in it of itself the ultimate prize. Everyone should want it more than money, more than anything. Plus, until it's cashed in, and the reason for selling it can be made clear, that cloud of "Why" is going to hang over the head of the original contract winner, and might well kill any heat they have...

Corollary: maybe babyface wins MITB, and they have a valet/girlfriend. If that woman needed time off TV for injury, or filming, or what have you, they could run an angle were "someone" kid naps her. The MITB winner is distraught and finally offers to his contract up in exchange for her return (when she is ready to return to TV). He leaves the contract and she is returned otherwise unharmed. Now we have a set up for whoever cashes in the contract to get instant psycho-heel heat, plus there is the backdoor option for the valet to have been in on the plot from the beginning.
The only problem with this is, I don't know that something like kidnapping would go over well on modern WWE programming...and the angle is bordering on Russo levels of needless convolutedness. But that was the best case scenario I could think of for someone to sell their contract without totally losing their heat, and keeping the new holder of the contract a secret.

If babyface wins MITB, all that's needed is to say that someone came to them backstage/at the hotel and threatened to reveal a deep, dark secret from babyface's past unless the contract was handed over.
The cash-in could then either be used by a heel, or as a way to insta-turn someone. And then once the cash-in happens the on-camera feud can begin between the two.
Actually, I could see them waiting a while, letting the heel have a bit of a run with Belty before starting to taunt the babyface that he's gonna reveal the info anyway now that there's nothing left to gain from withholding. Taunts can continue until babyface snaps and gives a large enough beatdown to make a double turn.
