OK guys, how have I done running Tipsters this year? What can I do better next year? Are the any rules you think should change?

In particular, I'd like to get some feedback on the Tipsters submission form (http://tipsters.s3-website-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/) (which debuted last month for Survivor Series), before I post the Tipsters thread for TLC.

----------------

I'd also like feedback on these proposed changes:

Change 1:

Last year, in order to be eligible to participate, you needed to meet at least three of the following criteria:

You must have at least 750 posts.
You must have been a regular contributor to the wrestling forum for the past nine months.
You must have positive reputation.
You must have fully participated (not missing a single PPV) in the previous season of Tipsters.

To allow more people to participate, I'd like to change this so that the number of criteria is the number of PPVs you can miss without being dropped. So, if you meet three criteria, you can participate until you've missed four PPVs. If you meet none of the criteria, you're dropped after missing a single PPV. This change would mean that people who would be able to participate anyway will now have a bit more lenience with missing PPVs, and people who would not be able to participate now will be able to.

Change 2:

Last season, some of the point multiplication was kinda silly - a bonus match for a Big 4 PPV was worth x4 points, for instance. I'd like to implement one or both of these changes:

Multipliers are additive. For instance, if something is doubled twice, it would be tripled, not quadrupled.
The x2 multiplier for bonus matches will be split if there are multiple bonus matches. For instance, if there are two bonus matches, they'll both be x1.5 points instead of x2.

I didn't care for the Tipsters Submission Form. It left no room for whimsical and witty answers.

The form doesn't prevent you from having witty and whimsical answers in the thread.

I'm still winning aren't I? If so, top work Poit!

Make the spreadsheet so I can see it on my apple devices. It's all about me dammit.

I think Tipsters should exclude gays and blacks. It's about time white heterosexual males finally catch a break.

Yeah, I may use Google Spreadsheet next year. That should hopefully let Flash-prohibited people see the results.

Way to kill Ermax out in one strike. One bird, two stones...

Agreed.

And make a rule so that Flash Funk can be kept out.

I've added a couple proposed changes to the OP. Please give your thoughts on these changes.

Opening it up to a wider market is totally up to you, you are the one compiling the results. You want to let everybody sign up, then go for it.

I think if changes to the match happen at the PPV, the match should be tossed.

Example: if there's a handicap match and Tag Team Teddy decides to make it a tag match, the match should be thrown out/not counted.

I'd also bump the post count to 1,000. But that might be overkill.

Changes to what extent? Do you think just adding a stipulation (this match is now a no-disqualification match!) be enough to discount the match?

maybe like if it's changed to a match type that can only end in one way (cage, tables, etc.) from when it was a normal match before?

setting the thing up closer to the day of the PPV (if not on the Sunday of the PPV) to get more extra matches that aren't announced until later.

I'd like to see the option of "half points" for tie breakers made by wild ass guesses.

A couple of years ago I tied for whatever place I got. One thing is I threw away the Money In The Bank ladder match at WrestleMania, as I called for someone who wasn't in it to win, Matt Hardy. Hardy ended up doing a run in, and I could have gotten one place higher, without tying, if I had a freaking half point for calling Matt Freaking Hardy.

I dunno. I see where you're coming from here, but completely discounting a match seems a bit much.

That's tricky. I totally understand wanting the cutoff point for new matches to be later in the week, so that matches added on the go-home Smackdown can be included, but I also don't want to exclude people who are unable to post during the latter part of the week for whatever reason (travel, etc.).

So... you want to get 0.5 points for predicting a winner who isn't in the match, and then having him do a run-in on the match? No, that's just too much effort for an extreme edge case.

When I originally suggested the idea of allowing more people to participate late last year, a number of people expressed concern about it, so I felt it necessary to let them elaborate on their reasoning. I don't want to just make a decision without any feedback.

I think I want to do it this year, as long as nobody tells Gertner that I'm black.

Poit, props for maintaining this. It has to be a pain in the ass. Do it however you want, and if people don't like it, they don't have to play. You're doing great.

At least I spoke up, so if I tie again I can at least say "Hey, I said my peace for a stupid idea."

You do an awesome job and I love the proposed plans. You also made it easier for me with the drop down menus when I don't know certain finishers.

SlickyTrickyDamon
01-23-2014, 01:12 AM
That makes it too easy. Not knowing a finisher should be a determent.
