“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson has been placed on indefinite hiatus from the reality program following his controversial remarks in GQ magazine regarding homosexuality. While the cast member has not officially been fired, he will not be filming with the show moving forward.
A+E Networks, parent company of A&E, has released the following statement to Variety:
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”
As noted in a previous Variety article, Robertson discusses in his GQ interview his religious beliefs and about sin, saying, “start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Then, the GQ writer paraphrases Corinthians saying, “don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
Robertson added in the interview, “It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
“Duck Dynasty” has been a ratings juggernaut for A&E, recently drawing around 9 million viewers for its Christmas special. Gurney Prods.-produced program can move on without Phil Robertson attached to the series, as the bearded men at the center of the Robertson clan include Jase, Willie and Uncle Si, among others.
Okay, he doesn't agree with homosexuality, so what? These are his personal feelings and he's entitled to them(disagree of course) - he's not going around protesting and trying to get laws passed to make homosexuality illegal so move on.It's funny how on one hand you'll hear all these complaints that no one is ever honest these days and they're just fake but what do you expect when you go after someone when they are honest. It's to no one's advantage to be honest about how they feel anymore. We're at a point now to where you have to walk around being PC and not give a real opinion on something .

It's not like Duck Dynasty is a haven for Liberal thinking. A&E knew what they were getting when they made the series.

Shut the fuck up.
This guy is allowed to have those feelings. But when he shares them with the world, A&E doesnt need to keep him on their network.
He doesnt have a right to be on TV, so just like any other thing, hes a representative of their Network and if he says something that doesnt jive with their image, dont expect to be on TV.

This. He has not been punished by law enforcement. It is funny how social media is pouring with freedom so speech like he is going to jail.
The show is probably holding him back anyway.

Wasn't just the gay remarks that got him in trouble since he claimed African Americans were a lot better off and happy during the Jim Crow era and he never saw any such racism in the South. His reasoning was African Americans were happy as cotton farmers and because he was of the "white trash" and farmer status, he could relate to their happiness.
Agree with Hanso that while A&E might not care about his personal beliefs, once he makes them public and makes A&E look bad by association, they have every right to punish him.

The issue I have with that statement is that this mans views on homosexuality have NEVER been secret, ever, it was known when they picked up the show and anyone who thought he was never going to be questioned on this ever needs to be fired for it. As far as I am concerned if this is a firing rather then a suspension, and the contract he has with the company allows for it, I hope he sues and wins.
I am not anti gay but I am tired of alot of the gay and bisexual youth movement constantly complaining all over the place about how they have a right to express themselves while those who do not agree with them do not have that right. Also find it interesting how, at least in my neck of the woods, that the majority of the gay people I know are anti religious to the point of being fanatical about it.

Why wouldn't they be anti-religious when the the religious types say they are abominations of god. Would you actively support a religion that said something you have no control over makes you the devil? If yes, then you're the fanatic.
They aren't asking to express themselves they are asking to be allowed to get married and not be actually beaten down and attacked for being gay. Nobody is suggesting that a group of gays round up this Duck Dynasty guy and beat the shit out of him. That would be equal treatment though.

You know what you are right.
There maybe Freedom of Speech but there are always going to be consequences involved.

Those contracts as performers have all sorts of Morality clauses.
If I walked into work today and started calling everyone NIGGER would people be defending me? My RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH?
You cant say whatever you want and not have to deal with the repercussions.
Most of you morons dont even understand what Free Speech is. Its not about a Private COmpany firing you for being a bigot. Its to protect your rights against the government. its not even relevant here.

calling everyone you work with a nigger isn't quite the same thing as giving your opinions in an interview.

Saying that you think Homosexuals are no different that animal fuckers in a national media outlet certainly is close enough. Of course you are going to have to deal wit hthe repercussions of your actions.

To Be Honest AJ Lee's is an idiot.
Sorry that we all have to be 'politically correct' ie treat people fairly. It must be quite a burden to treat people fairly. Who wants that.

I'd rather someone be brutally honest than to hide their true feelings.

He does have the right. Just as I have the right to go around my job saying gays are inhuman pieces of garbage, and my employer has the right to fire me.
I love reality t.v, but I hate this show with a passion, but like it was said before: we're all pissed by a redneck saying redneck things.
