Obviously, most people would say Raw is the better show since it is broadcasted live and bla bla bla. I do not belong to the category of "most people".
First of all, Vince obviously likes Raw more than Smackdown and we could see the apparent bias during the lottery draw. Smackdown has been treated unfairly and I really pity it.
Secondly, I tried to watch Smackdown without reading the spoilers and indeed, i found it more unpredictable than raw can ever get. Remember 1 thing, words can NEVER replace live moving actions. (meaning the spoilers suck at describing wad's going on)
Lastly, I have observed 1 major thing. It has always been Smackdown bringing in the audience from all around the world, from faraway places like India And Iraq. Why? It's purely because Smackdown makes trips to these gay countries and advertise WWE. What do the raw guys do? Oh yeh, they shake their legs at home, and watch bugs bunny.
Smackdown is doing all the hard work because Vince forces them to do so, while all raw needs to do is to travel around UK, US and canada doing house shows. In these countries, WWE is popular enough so I really cant see any point in doing house shows over there.
Smackdown has to go all the way to ****ing Iraq just to perform for the soldiers, AND YES! IT WAS CHRISTMAS. The superstars do not get a chance to rest for the holiday at all. And before that, it also had to make gay trips to Asian countries which are like 18 hrs away from the US. Imagine you are brock lesnar, and you have to make a trip to south africa just to wrestle hardcore holly, would you like it at all? HELL NO.
Hence, I say that Smackdown deserves all the support it has been getting and the people supporting Raw, i have nothing against you guys since it was your opinions. But I hope that you can give a thought about how Smackdown has been contributing to the WWE product, and give a fair stance to Smackdown.

... I do think smackdown rules, but more superstars/storylines on raw = better show.
Goldbird
05-16-2004, 10:30 AM
The reason why so many Smackdown superstars are absent (eg. lesnar, show, angle) is because they have been making trips around the world far too often. And when you get all these main-eventers absent, it's pretty obvious that smackdown will be worse than raw. But kudos to the remaining superstars on smackdown that put their best week in week out.

Well, I thought this thread was for everyone.
What show does Mick Foley and The Rock make cameos on? And with talented guys like HBK, Triple H, Shelton Benjamin, Beniot, Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy, Christian, Edge, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair I don't see how any of you cannot like Raw better.
In order for a promotion to be a success, it needs a good mix of old-school and new-school superstars. Raw has that. Smackdown does not.
I think most of you like Smackdown better because it is the B-rated show and let's face it, Smarks love being away from the in-crowd and being "rebels" because they think it makes them look cool.
I can't blame you guys for trying though. I know most of you hate that computer nerd label but when you do junk like that, you just prove a lot of points.

1. Better direction.
2. More of a surprise factor.
3. Chris Jericho
4. Randy Orton
5. Chris Benoit
7. Eugene
8. Eric Bischoff
9. Actual build-up to their PPVs (whereas, Smackdown threw nearly the whole card together at the last second)
10. Build-up to their next show (hell, nearly all of the matches on this past Raw were announced and built-up ahead of time, and the upcoming Raw already has 2 matches announed as well)
I could go on, but I don't want to.
Bottom line: Raw > Smackdown</font>

In defense of Smackdown, I will say that when the brand extension first started I thought Smackdown was the superior show for a good while. Most of 2002 infact. But it slowly went down hill in 2003.

In 2003 Smackdown was far superior cause he they had stars like Angle, Lesnar, Benoit, Guerrero, Cena, Heyman tearing it up, which made for great television and wrestling. Angle and Lesnar had awesome matches for the title and there was an awesome feud between Hogan/McMahon (before Mr. America)
Raw had HHH as champ and he as facing idiots like Steiner, Nash, and Goldberg for most of the year. :n: The only time Raw was good was the month leading to Wrestlemania XIX when they had The Rock (at his best) and Stone Cold, not to mention the feud of the year with Y2J/HBK.
Ever since Chris Benoit went to Raw, Smackdown has been strugling and still is. The world title scene on Raw is awesome with Benoit as champ, with guys like HHH, HBK, Jericho, Kane, and Christian knocking on the door. :y:
Smackdown has Eddie Guerrero whose a fine champ but is feuding with all the wrong people. Brock Lesnar quit, Kurt Angle can't wrestle anymore, and Chris benoit went to Raw. Who's Eddie's new rival none other than Bradshaw. :nono:
Overall Raw is owning Smackdown and will continue to do so for a while

For the moment, RAW is the superior show. This is mostly because alot more veteran or well-known up-and-comers wrestling are on Raw and Smackdown does not have enough on the roster to pull of a better show as shown by Judgement Day today. But Smackdown is rebounding slowly, with the addition of new stars and rising stars. All I know is if there wasn't Cena, Angle, RVD, or especially Eddie, I probably wouldn't be watching Smackdown on a weekly basis.

I would have defended SD a few months ago. But I just can't do it anymore. I really enjoyed it up until the draft, and since then it seems to have increasingly gone downhill. I know that's not the talent's fault. SD has some awesome talent and as others have stated, I do like how it focuses the show on the champion. But overall RAW is better and more enjoyable.
RAW feels like it has actual direction with it. I suppose a good thing is when I watch them/think about them I really feel as though they are completely separate...for the most part. SD was good for much of 02 and 03 I thought. Especially with the Smackdown 6 matches etc (sans Al Wilson) while RAW had the necrophilia stuff, HHH all over the place, HHH/Steiner feud, abolishing of the IC title.
I watch both and enjoy both still. But RAW just has a larger entertainment value with it than Smackdown, IMO.

Yes, all foreign countries are gay, good one.
Anyway, Raw wins by a landslide for me - as Vito noted, they build up each card and show in advance, having more matches announced for the upcoming Raw a week in advance than Smackdown did a few days before their PPV. And while Smackdown has a fair few guys I like for one reason or another, fair enough (Eddie, Cena, Dupree, Booker, Van Dam, Rey, Chavo, probably a couple of others I've forgotten about), Raw has most of my favourites on board and main eventer who are viable main eventers who I want to see wrestle compared to Eddie being stuck against whomever - I honestly can't even see a sensible option for them when they decide to have Eddie lose the belt, unless The Rock comes back anytime soon (oh wait, even he moved to Raw). Plus I'm getting a kick out of Eugene right now...

Raw is currently better than Smackdown.
It's RAW's turn. (think Yin/Yang)
Smackdown was beating the crap out of RAW until about a month before WM19.
Everybody realised that RAW needed strengthening, so when Stone Cold returned he went to RAW, The Rock went to RAW, Goldberg went to RAW, and basically, they strengthened RAW as much as possible by bringing in La Resistance, etc from OVW.
So what happened? RAW got better. Excellent.
So we're the day after WMXX, a year on, Lesnar has walked, Goldberg has walked, Stone Cold is about to walk, Angle is out injured, the Deadman has returned but doesn't have a storyline, and you're Vince and you need to do something.
Option 1: Balance the rosters, and make them both slightly above mediocre. Lose viewers on both shows.
Option 2: Stack the deck in favour of one show. Keep the ratings on that, and build some new/improved stars on the other show, gradually increase ratings.
So, if my arguments/theories are correct, V-Mac has went for option 2. If you think about it, it's actually the sensible option. (sh1t, did I just say that?)
If I'm right, then in his defence, at least RAW is still doing the business, and probably better than they have in a long time.
Meantime, Smackdown is scoring highly on the 'Mince-omitor' and this is down solely to the writers.
Storylines like Jacqueline getting the CW title (WTF?), Bradshaw main-eventing (WTF?), with the saving graces on the show either coming from Eddie (on his own), ex-RAW talent (RDV, Dudleys, Rico), or comedy tag-teams like Rico/Haas.
Fair enough that they are trying to bring on talent like Dupree, so good on them for that, but for me the whole thing is pretty simple.
Raw is currently better than Smackdown.
It's RAW's turn.
But for those Smackdown fans amongst you, don't worry.
Smackdown's turn will come again.

I'd say Raw is better
I like to defend smackdown cos I love the set, and it feels more homely (umm...hope u know wot i mean), but the basic fact is that the workers on raw get pushed bigger and better than on smackdown, and are more well known.
I dont think you can compare the top 10 active workers for each company:
RAW: HHH, HBK, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Christian, Randy Orton, Kane, Edge, Shelton Banjamin, Batista
Eddie Guerrero, Booker T, John Cena, Rob Van Dam, Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero, Rene Dupree, Charlie Haas, Bradshaw, Rikishi.
In terms of WWE world champs:
Raw: 5
Smackdown: 1 and 1 WCW champ.
In terms of general singles title holders of a prestigious belt:
Raw: 8
Smackdown: 7
You can see here IMO that Raw has much more established and credible wrestlers. However, ironically, a fair few of them have come from Smackdown.
However, I think that Smackdown does have the potential to overcome raw. I didnt catch the PPV but Mordecai sounds interesting. Also, ECW dudleyz and heyman sounds promising
