Here's the article:
Legendary women's pro wrestling star Mae Young died early Thursday morning at her Columbia home at the age of 90.
Known to millions of fans worldwide as the Amazing Mae Young, she was born Johnnie Mae Young on March 23, 1923, in Sand Springs, Okla., although some friends insist that her actual birthdate was several years earlier.
A highly touted athlete in high school, Young broke into the pro ranks at the tender age of 15, joining a fraternity of women whose grit and toughness would be profiled decades later in "Lipstick and Dynamite," a 2005 documentary that shone a spotlight on the forgotten first ladies of wrestling who lived hard and fought even harder, blazing a trail on the wrestling circuit and paving the way for future generations.
Young, who broke into the business in 1939, was the first-ever NWA U.S. women's champion and participated in the profession over a remarkable span of nine decades.
She earned a widespread reputation for being one of the toughest, street-savvy workers in the business - and that included men and women.
Young perhaps gained her greatest notoriety when she and longtime friend, perennial women's world champion The Fabulous Moolah (Lillian Ellison), made an appearance on a WWE Smackdown show in 1999, 60 years after Young's entree into the profession.
Moolah was laid out by a guitar while Young was put in a figure four leglock. Both were in their 70s by then, but from that time on they would make semi-regular appearances on WWE television where they became fan favorites.
Although their bits on the show were mostly of a comedic nature, Young would survive power bombs from male wrestlers nearly half a century younger and would even win WWE's Miss Royal Rumble in 2000 at the age of 77.
That same year Young took part in an over-the-top storyline where she dated WWE star Mark Henry, announced that she was "pregnant" and later gave birth to a rubber hand.
Young was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 along with Moolah, with whom she shared a home and wrestling complex in Columbia where hundreds of aspiring wrestlers - male and female -trained under two of wrestling's greatest women grapplers.
Young had helped Ellison, who passed away in 2007, break into the sport decades earlier.
"She was in California and had lost all of her family, and I told her this big place was just sitting here and she could have the whole upstairs," Ellison once said.
For years the two, both members of the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, were delightful hosts at the Columbia estate and reservoirs of grappling history.
RIP. Amazing woman.

Yeah, so sad. But I’m sure her and Moolah are having a “Fabulous” time up in heaven reconnecting with one another. R.I.P. :'(
They’ll probably edit in at least a little still picture memorial for SD! this Friday. Maybe not. Anyway, it’d be nice if they made time on Monday to do some sort of small video tribute package. Doesn’t have to take forever, just think it would be a nice gesture to a woman who was one of the last great female wrestlers still alive from the (ironic considering last Monday’s RAW, I know, but...) “old-school” days of the sport.
Professional wrestling has lost a true icon and Mae Young will be forever missed and loved by millions of fans around the world.

I'm not going to say it was a ground breaking loss, but a heart breaking one never the less. One of the toughest people, regardless of gender, to lace up a pair of boots has passed away at the age of 90.
We'll remember you, Mae Young. Rest in peace. Thank you for the memories... except the hand thing.
And seeing you get thrown off the stage through a table by Bubba Ray Dudley at 80 years old was disturbing.

She was truly one of the toughest male or female to ever lace a pair of boots.
I can overlook the attitude era stuff she did as she likely had fun and was getting a paycheck.
I do think it was reckless and irresponsible of WWE to have an 80 year old woman get power bombed thru a table.
Bubba probably took care of her but still...
I think given the losses in recent years this was one of the few or the only that springs to mind that United most wrestling fans and professionals alike in grief and tribute. For example when Henning and Eddie passed away it was under tragic circumstances I.e. Result of drug abuse. Benoit obviously less said the better. Macho man of course incredibly sad but he polarised opinion amongst wrestling celebs. I don't recall mae young ever actually being hated and unlike most stars who went into retirement or moved on from the wwe she remained loyal until the very end hence why she was loved so much and perhaps why her tribute video felt more heart felt than macho mans.
Wasn't there the story of how mae young berated bubba for not going tougher on her? She certainly left her mark on the wrestling business and the odd novelty raw or spot on a ppv will seem that little emptier.

Mae Young and The Fabulous Moolah are two of the sweetest ladies you’d ever meet. All the boys respected the hell out of them and everybody rolled out the red carpet whenever they were on the show. By 2000, they’d already got over 100 years of in-ring experience between them, so that tells you how old they were. But they would still get in the ring now and then when they were given the chance. On one show, Crash and I were booked to do a tag team match against them, so we sat down in catering together to go over the match. Out of respect for them, I took myself out of the equation and told them we would do whatever they wanted to do. Mae planned a spot where she would be in the ring with Crash and I’d sneak in behind her. She would turn around and I’d clothesline her. I said to her, “Mae, I’ve got all the respect in the world for you but if you’re asking me to clothesline you, you need to know that I lay it in there.” She said, “Sure I know that, I want you to clothesline me.” I said, “No, you don’t understand – when I clothesline somebody, I try to rip their head off. It’s TV, I don’t want it to look bad but I don’t want to hurt you.” This nearly 80-year-old woman just looked at me and said, “Bring it, motherfucker.”
In Gorilla, just before the match, I gave her a hug and thanked her in advance for the match, then asked if she was sure about the clothesline. She said, “If you don’t bring it, when we get back, I’m going to kick your ass.” Hell, I didn’t want to get beaten up by an 80-year-old woman, so I was going to do what she said and lay that clothesline in there nice and snug. We started the match and I locked up with Moolah, grabbed her in a headlock, and took her over. I landed right on top of her. I was 235 pounds at this point. She was 77 years old and she was taking everything I could throw at her. Unbelievable.
The time came for the spot with Mae. She had her back to me as I was getting ready. When she turned around, I charged – she didn’t have time to prepare for it and I threw that clothesline from left field like I was hitting Bradshaw. I ripped her head off so hard that the poor lady cut a flip. I felt so bad! I asked her if she was alright and she said, “Yep, I’m fine,” and carried on. When we got to the back after the match, I went over to thank her and asked, “Mae, are you okay?” She patted me on the chest and said, “That’s how you lay a clothesline in, right there,” and kept on walking. Why the hell can’t some of the boys be like that?! That match was great fun and good entertainment.
Rest in peace, Mae Young.
