I have been saying for a while now about how great it would be to get an updated 8-bit RBI/Super Batter-Up/SNES Griffey style game. Basically, an updated Griffey with stadiums, logos, color, etc.

Well, I guess we're getting it now because Advanced Media will apparently be developing an updated RBI Baseball this year.

I just hope they don't screw it up. You can update the music but don't fuck around with it too much. Don't make it 3D, keep it 2D. Dear God, don't have microtransactions in the game where you can run out of curveballs but you can visit the shop and buy 20 more for 99 cents (or 120 for $5 ~*BEST VALUE*~). Or have a Season Pass to unlock... god knows what.

Just keep it simple. That's all I'm asking.

Honestly "can't fathom" a scenario where this isn't "bogged down" by "microtransactions"

<font color=goldenrod>I'm intrigued. However it should be renamed now that we've established that RBIs are mostly luck.</font>

It's so easy to get this right and yet it's also so easy to completely dick this up. This can be a great game by only adding the bare bones minimum. All teams, 1 stadium, and a play now mode under the old engine would probably be a great game.

But goddamnit I know they're going to fuck this up. I know it. They'll screw around with the mechanics where you have to fill a "special" meter or some shit to perform certain plays. Or add like "sprint" button you have to mash. Or worse, Twitter/Facebook recognition would be mandatory to play.

I'm not optimistic about it and I hate feeling that. It sucks. But the "writing is on the wall" with games like this. You know it's coming. Brace yourself.

Developer MLB Advanced Media is keeping R.B.I. Baseball 14 close to its non-simulation roots, the company’s VP of games informed Polygon and Joystiq.

According to Leece, complex control schemes, micro-managing organizations, and highly detailed player models weren’t the ways MLBAM wanted to bring R.B.I. Baseball back. Instead, the studio wanted old-school pick up and play feel that defined NES-era sports games. To that end, R.B.I. Baseball 14 sportsa simple two-button input, giving it a distinct “arcade” feel.

In terms of looks, the R.B.I. contains only three player models and preset batter stances, a throwback that furthers that arcade feel even more. Teams are limited to 16-man rosters instead of the traditional 25 to prevent players from worrying about righty-lefty match-ups or the like.

There are also no Career/Franchise modes. In their place are one-game Exhibition mode, a Season mode with variable length, and a Playoff mode that puts you right into the thick of a MLB postseason bracket. There won’t be any online play, either—in an effort to recreate that sense of couch co-op from two decades ago, you can only play locally.

This is out today. $19.99 on PS3/Xbox360, $4.99 on iDevices. PS4, Xbox one, and Android versions out in summer.

There's nothing close to RBI music.
You can't change the lineups.
Only 3 starters and 1 closer.
Switching fielders feels weird at times.

Other than that, it's alright.

So I have never really played a baseball game, but what should I get if I want to have fun even though I am not really 'into' baseball? One of my friends is a HUGE baseball fan, and tells me about it all the time, and various rules and strategies that go into it, and makes it sound pretty cool. I just get bored watching it, and there are way too many teams and players and games played in a year for me to really feel like getting into it. But playing it in a video game sounds fun, so recommend me something.

Even better if it's on PC.

Nvm, downloading this now after seeing the consensus online is that this was one of, if not THE best supposedly. Plus a total conversion mod to 2013.

I''m having a lot fun with the The Show series the past couple of years but they're a bit more "advanced" than what you're looking for. MVP is exactly what you're looking for, something a bit more modern (Holy shit, not really. Has it really been almost been 10 years since it came out?!? Jesus.) but still easy to play and something that teaches you as you go.

Link me to some of these mods, I might play around with them if they're not too bad and if my comp can handle it.

So far my only problem with the mod is that none of the players stats are updated. Literally everyone is at like 0 on everything. Also, I suck at this. Don't know all the controls, might actually try using mouse/keyboard instead of 360 pad.

Their stats or their attributes? If everyone's attributes are at 0, then that's why you're having such a hard time.

Please don't use M+K.

<font color=goldenrod>Also the MVP mods are wonderful, need to re-download it on my new PC. The only downside is that the players are all the age they were when the 2005 season started, so Bryce Harper is 12 and shit. Only really matters if you plan on playing for a prolonged amount of time, since the young players in today's MLB are gonna have like 30 year careers.</font>
