Maybe it's because he's teaming with RYBACK and they form the greatest power tag team since the Road Warriors, but I'm finding that I'm making up reasons why Curtis Axel is awesome, even though I know he's terrible. Lol his theme is my wake up alarm on my phone.
Also loved Viscera. Fat wrestlers are great.

definitely Sandman.
also I'd have to say George Gulas.
Gulas has to be seen to be believed at how awful he was. His daddy Nick owned the Tennessee territory prior to Jerry Jarrett buying up most of it in 1977.
George teamed with a young Bobby Eaton as The Jet Set as well.
George Gulas saves the day in this clip from 1975... and gets ignored lol

Liked Marc Mero when he became "Marvellous". He had totally sucked to me before, and I knew he wasn't a great wrestler, then all of a sudden he had this cool theme, this new attitude and the TKO. The fact they talked up his boxing background made the whole thing seem legit.
Secretly wished he had gone further after that, even though I knew he wasn't great in the ring...

Seriously though, even as a "hardcore wrestler" Tommy Dreamer was underwhelming. Bubba, Taz, Rhyno, Balls, Ian, Tajiri, Sabu, Sandman, New Jack and Raven were all more innovative in their violence and better in the ring. Tommy Dreamer was hardcore and all, but come on.

Also don't most Internet people hate Jeff Jarrett? He's probably like my 2nd favourite heel ever.
Swiss Ultimate
02-05-2014, 06:30 PM
I remember legitimately believing that they were going to do a year+ long angle where they trained David Flair to be the next Nature Boy. Like he'd come back and just be massive and be really good because his dad taught him everything he knew etc.
Yeah, that would have been really cool.

Giant Gonzalez.
Granted, the only thing I have ever saw with him was his debut at Rumble 93. But I remember as a kid being like "OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT MONSTER!" and then "OH MY! HE IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO MANHANDLE THE UNDERTAKER!!"
Then I never actually saw any of their matches, or anything he did afterwards. But whenever I would watch the VHS of Royal Rumble 93, I always looked forward to his appearance.

If he sucked, it wasn't his fault.
It looks like a lot of us (yes, including myself) wanted badly to like Nathan Jones in spite of him being a super green powerlifter he could portray someone who was somewhere between not that bright and not that mentally stable, and yet still charming. Add into the fact that he had the in of a lifetime by being "Undertaker's student". The bit where 'Taker comes up to him in the back and is like "Hey, it's time for your match." and Nathan's like "Already had it!" and opens the locker room door on someone rolling around on the floor post ass-kicking who I forgot until I looked up the clip even though his theme song, ironically, said we'd remember him.*
Gangrel was a special case. Pretty much ANYBODY would look badass rising out of a ring of fire and spitting "viscious liquid" to get amped for a match. And this was back about "Interview With A Vampire" time... if he had looked more like Kevin Thorne instead of Meat Loaf, he would have been a huge merch mover with the ladies and it totally wouldn't have mattered how shit he was in the ring. Plus, he was a starmaker. E&C and The Hardyz got over huge after hanging around him for awhile. If only Lo'Down had hired Gangrel as their manager instead of Tiger Ali Singh, we'd be talking about them as one of the best tag teams ever right now!
* "... still makes me chuckle a bit inside." I don't know how I omitted a whole portion of a thought there.
