Last but not least, it's the series finale.

Rocksteady states the game won't have any online multiplayer features due to them wanting to focus entirely on the game's story, not having enough time to do both, and Warner Bros not pressuring them to shoe-horn it in for the sake of having one.

playstationtrophies.org (one of my go-to gaming sites), got their hands on and chunk of info for this game. I'm assuming it's from the Game Informer article. In spoilers.
Batman: Arkham Knight was announced yesterday; a retailer leak breaking the news shortly before an official announcement trailer appeared. This was quickly followed by the release of Game Informer’s heavily Batman-focused issue, and a GameStop pre-order poster which seems to reveal the game’s release date.
Here’s everything we know so far.
Developer
Batman: Arkham Knight is developed by Rocksteady, the series creators. It marks the return of the British studio following last year’s prequel Batman: Arkham Origins, which was developed by Warner Bros. Montreal.
The studio says it is moving on to other things following the release of Arkham Knight which are “most definitely not Batman related.”
Story
While we don’t know too many specifics about the story itself, we do know that Batman: Arkham Asylum is the “explosive finale to the Arkham series”, taking place one year after the events of Arkham City.
Other story info includes the revelation that now the is Joker gone, Gotham’s other key villains have colluded to plot Batman's downfall. In order to spread the dark knight’s resources thin, each villain has his or her own mission in the city.
According to the game director, the ending of the series has been planned out for some time.
"We knew where we wanted it to go," Hill told Game Informer. "We don't work on multiple titles at the same time. We just work on the one game, and we want it to be the single best thing. We make it like it's the last game we'll ever get to make."
"And it felt like the right way to end the story. I felt like it brought the arcs from first and second game, from Asylum and City, to a close. It felt like the natural fit really. We've been doing Batman games for a long while now. We wanted to put everything into this one and really close the trilogy with a bang.”
Gotham City
Batman: Arkham Knight takes place in a new central zone of Gotham City, roughly five times the size of Arkham City. It is split into three islands. And while the scale is obviously impressive, Rocksteady’s aim isn’t to make the biggest world, but the richest, densest and most vibrant.
Only criminals remain in Gotham. Scarecrow has threatened to detonate bombs and cover the city in a new version of his fear toxin, so it has been evacuated.
The layout of the city has been created to accommodate the Batmobile (see “Batmobile”), while ramps, barriers and traffic have been used to provide additional hazards.
Additionally the buildings in the city are more spread out than in the previous game. "Arkham City was quite claustrophobic," game director Sefton Hill told Game Informer. "Here we have a lot more negative space between the buildings so it’s much easier and more enjoyable to glide around."
Enemies
Though far more will no doubt be revealed in the weeks to come, including confirmation of a since-removed Facebook tease that Hush will play a role, here’s what we know about Arkham Knight’s bad dudes so far.
The official announcement for the game says, “Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever.”
There’s another character too. "Arkham Knight" is also the name of a new arch-rival, created from scratch by DC Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. The character will "really challenge Batman to go head to head with him in lots of different ways.”
It would seem the demo played by Game Informer ends with the player’s first encounter with this character. He is described as a "militaristic Batman" with what looks like an "Arkham A" on his chest. Apparently, he shoots Batman and the screen fades to black.
Beyond that, Gotham is also crawling with criminals, reportedly four or five times the amount featured in Arkham City. Riots will occasionally break out featuring up to 50 characters smashing up the city.
Allies
Jim Gordon plays a role, although his police force is overwhelmed with criminals. He believes that his daughter Barbara - also known as Oracle - is gone. She isn’t, however, she’s helping Batman. Arkham City follows the comic continuity in that Barbara has been paralysed by the Joker.
Unlike in Rocksteady’s other games, Oracle will be a physical presence, rather than just a guiding voice in Batman’s ear. She knows Batman’s real identity and is employed by the writers to show the dark knight’s more human side.
Voice actors
Kevin Conroy - Batman
Nolan North - Penguin
Wally Wingert - Riddler
Tara Strong - Harley Quinn
Troy Baker - Two-Face.
Graphics and Tech Stuff
Batman: Arkham Knight is built on what Rocksteady calls a "juiced up" version of a custom Unreal Engine, in order to take advantage of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4’s capabilities. Rocksteady describes Arkham Knight as "a real, genuine next-gen game.”
All of the game's cutscenes take place in-engine and are no pre-rendered cinematics. Rocksteady says they are seamlessly integrated into the action, meaning the shift from gameplay to cut-scene is unobtrusive. Similarly, unlike previous Arkham games, there are no loading screens between interior and exterior environments.
Loading screens have been eradicated for switching between interiors and exteriors, and at any given time there are "three or four times as many" thugs active in Gotham City compared to the previous game.
There’s also this astounding quote from lead character artist Albert Feliu. He told Game Informer that one character in Arkham Knight has more polygons than the entirety of Arkham Asylum.
”At the beginning, we started making characters that were about three to four times the polygon count and texture sizes of Arkham City,” he said. "As we kept going with every character we just pushed it more. It's the kind of thing that sounds insane. Like one character is as big as the polygon count of Arkham Asylum, the whole environment."
Special cloth physics have also been implemented, so that Batman’s cape and Gordon’s trench coat react realistically to wind and movement. You can even see raindrops running down them.
Multiplayer
There is no multiplayer in Arkham Knight. Rocksteady is focused on "making the best single-player experience it can.” The studio doesn’t feel Arkham Knight and needs multiplayer.
Batmobile
Rocksteady wants the Batmobile to be "the best car in any game ever.” According to the studio it takes up around 160mb of memory. There are hundreds of thousands of polygons, as well as textures and shaders used to make it look impressive.
Indeed, Rocksteady says that the Batmobile is so detailed that it wouldn’t fit on an Xbox 360, presumably meaning that it is made up of so much information that you can’t fit it on a DVD.
The only vehicle that Batman has access to in the game, the Batmobile zooms to your location with the press of a button. It can jumps, boost, do burnouts and "rotate in a circle at a full stop to get you pointed in the right direction.”
It’s also bulletproof and can smash through barricades, trees and building corners, plus it can missile lock and fire an immobilizer at enemy vehicles. Perhaps unsurprisingly, enemies will try and get out of the way if they see it coming.
If Batman approaches a key point in the Batmobile, he can launch himself out of it into a fast glide.
In the demo played by GameInformer, the Riddler challenges Batman to a three-lap time trial through the underground tunnels of Gotham. According to the write-up, the only way to make it through is to use a special radar pulse that moves obstacles on the track.
Gameplay
Batman begins the game with his traditional Arkham City suit, but upgrades to a darker, plated one later on, gaining new abilities in the process. The new suit has been designed to complement the look of the Batmobile.
The controls have been streamlined somewhat with the introduction of a new move, allowing Batman to sprint to the nearest ledge and dive straight down.
The Grapnel Gun now has a Mark 2 boost upgrade and can be used to slingshot Batman into the air, while the Line launcher can provide Batman with perch points. The Line Launcher can also create ziplines while Batman is flying around. Similarly, all quickfire gadgets can be used in mid-air.
While Rocksteady believes that the simplicity of the combat and the counter system is the key to its success, some new features have been introduced. For example, a well-timed backflip can instantly KO charging enemies. Quick and full ground strikes are available, the latter allowing takedowns but taking longer to pull off.
Beyond this, environmental elements have been introduced to combat. For example, you can throw enemies into power generators.
Double damage can be dealt by pulling off a throw counter that grabs enemies and launches them into another. "Fear Takedowns" can also be used on groups of three enemies, just as long as they're close together and unaware of Batman’s presence.
Platforms
Concentrating on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 only has allowed Rocksteady to make “a real, genuine next-gen game,” Sefton Hill told Game Informer.
"It's not a challenge to move to next-gen. The real challenge is making sure you’re getting the best out of the machines. It’s easy to get the game running, but it's about, ‘What can we do that really pushes those machines?’
“Obviously you see a lot of games that are cross-gen, and they feel a bit reined in because of that. Because we were able to make that decision quite early, we were able to be more ambitious with the design and make a real, genuine next-gen game.”
Pre-Order Bonus
Pre-orders of Batman: Arkham Knight allow players to play as Harley Quinn, gain access to four exclusive challenge maps and “utilize her unique weapons, gadgets and abilities.” This information comes from the promotional material below.
Release Date
This was spotted on a GameStop pre-order poster. It says the game is coming to North America on October 14th. Placeholder dates are often used on retailer websites, but because this is on promotional material, it is likely legitimate. You can see the poster below.

He was in City as part of the one of the sidequests. It was kind of left hanging as well, would be weird if they don't pick it up in this game.
Man-Bat is about the only biggish villain other than The Ventriloquist that they haven't really touched for the series (other than the little appearances by Scarface), so I really have to wonder if they're going to get any fresh faces in. Suppose they could go for some wider DC universe villains like they did with Deathstroke and Deadshot, but who knows.

Yeah I saw someone else speculate it could be Red Hood, but that doesn't make sense to me really. I mean he already went through his whole ordeal in the comics and if this guy is going to be a comic character that doesn't mesh to me. I guess that could be applied to Joker too though.

Would be cool if there were other DC villains in this. Asylum to City had a pretty large amount of new villains. Since they had to add people like fucking Bird in Origins, I'd think they might want to think outside the box for a new game.

The good news was some details regarding the Batmobile:
The latest video from Rocksteady not only reveals the bad news, but it shows off the various improvements that have come to the Batmobile. They include a Riot Gun, Missile Barrage, Vulcan mini-gun, and a 60 mm tank cannon!
Additionally the Batmobile can be remote controlled, for sneak attacks on enemies or puzzle solving using some of the built-in tools like its trusty grappling hook.
The bad news being the game got delayed till TBA 2015.

From the Batman Arkham Facebook page:
Earlier this week, we announced the Season Pass for Batman: Arkham Knight. While the story of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Trilogy will come to a close on June 23rd, we are excited to continue telling stories and delivering more content to explore and play through in the 6 months following the game’s release. We’ll be building more narrative, more missions, more challenges and more characters and vehicles that we want players to experience, even though they didn’t fit into the storyline of Batman: Arkham Knight.
We’ve heard from our community that you want more information on what we’ll be delivering in the Season Pass. While we aren’t ready to unveil every aspect of the content we’ll be developing, we would like to share more detail now to give you a better sense of the scope of the Season Pass.
Batgirl: A Matter of Family
An all new prequel story expansion in an entirely new location where you play as Batgirl for the very first time in the Arkham series - check out the first render of Batgirl.
The Season of Infamy
Play as Batman in all new story missions featuring legendary super-villains invading Gotham City, with new story arcs, missions and gameplay features.
Gotham City Stories
Play as Batman’s key allies in narrative missions extending their storylines, from both before and after the events in Batman: Arkham Knight.
Legendary Batmobiles with Themed Tracks
Drive the most iconic Batmobiles from Batman’s 75-year history, on custom-built race tracks, each themed to that Batmobile’s specific era. Every Batmobile will be drivable across every race track.
Crimefighter Challenge Maps
Engage in a series of new challenge maps utilizing the unique play styles of Batman and his allies.
Character Skins
A variety of skins from across the eras for Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman.
As we fully ramp up development on the Season Pass, we will be sharing even more details on each monthly content drop. We hope you enjoy playing Batman: Arkham Knight as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

Rocksteady revealed some details regarding the Dual Play feature for the game.
It's been known for a while that Batman: Arkham Knight would feature a teamfighting mechanic of some sort called "Dual Play," but thanks to this official video we have a little more insight into how it works. Basically, you can switch between characters at will, with the AI controller the other combatant -- pretty simple, but effective stuff ... Catwoman, Nightwing, and Robin are confirmed for Dual Play so far.

Batman: Arkham Knight director Sefton Hill explained in this developer diary that the new Arkham will have "No loading screens as you play through the whole game."
"You can play from the start of the game to the end of the game and you won't see any loading screens. That's all a really big important thing for us."
There's also talk of Batmobile gadgets (an EMP, a drone hacker) and New Game Plus. The latter unlocks after the game and let's you carry experience and unlocked gadgets through. "You can do some of the challenges from earlier on in the game but with a whole new suite of gadgets you never had the first time or the upgrades," Hill explained. "And any Riddler trophies that you've found are shared on both playthroughs."
Trophy and Achievement lists were recently leaked for the game.

"Throughout the 6 months of additional Batman: Arkham Knight content, Premium and Season Pass owners will receive all in-game content that is offered through various retail pre-order incentives. This includes the Harley Quinn and Red Hood Story Packs, as well as any Batmobile or Booster Pack that was available as early bonuses for pre-order of the game. For those who did not receive the content with their game, these items will become available when their respective exclusivity windows expire in August/September.

The PS4-exclusive Scarecrow DLC will make it everywhere, too, around the same time.

Seems like its not soo much the Batmobile itself but how parts or missions they designed for the car doesn't fit well compared to the rest of the game.
Like forcing stealth to be done for a mission and/or fight but not in a good or possibly fun way. Same for chase missions having similar design and play problems.
Not bad enough to tank the game overall but one of those things that stick out like a sore point compared to the non-Batmobile portions of the game.

Those interested in the PC version might want to wait a bit before buying since that version is a mess right now.
According to multiple Steam reviews the game is: capped to 30fps, often drops down to around 10fps or less when gliding or driving, doesn't like <s>AMD or Nvidia</s> any graphic cards, and is horribly optimized. Many reviews state that GTX 980, the 290X and even the Titan X graphic cards are experiencing frame rate issues, though AMD users seem to have it worse reporting frame rate drops to around 3fps at times.
There is a quick fix but doesn't really solve anything.
If you have a decent graphics card and want to attempt 60fps, do the following:
Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Knight\BMGame\Config\BMSystemSettings.ini
Press Ctrl+F and search for the phrase "maxfps"
Change the number 30 to 60
Save the file and launch the game
While this tweak will allow up to 60fps, though it won't help the frame rate issues that are sure to still occur until things are patched up at a later date.

Apparently Warner Bros and/or Rocksteady wanted to wait until after launch to update the PC specs for the game. Could have mitigated some of the complaints had they bothered to do so earlier.
Rocksteady currently stated AMD cards were confirmed to be having a lot of problems running the game correctly.
"We also want to note that there are some known issues with the performance of Batman: Arkham Knight for PC owners using AMD graphics cards. We are working closely with AMD to rectify these issues as quickly as possible and will provide updates here as they become available. We thank you for your patience in this matter."

I had to turn down the resolution to 1080p and turned off Gameworks (which WB had kindly removed anyway) but worth it. 15 hours into the game now and this has a ton of actually interesting content and not just riddler trophies or going from one boss fight to the next.

I'm missing the more straightforward setup of combat and predator challenges from the past games too.
Baird, switch to first person in the races- helps a lot. Also save some upgrade points as some of the challenges need a certain skill. Final challenge needs an item too but won't spoil it.

* Good News - Rocksteady revealed last week they are helping out Iron Galaxy fix the PC version.
* Bad News - The amount of stuff needing to be fixed means its going to take a long time before they are done or release a major patch for it.

Turns out Warner Bros was well aware of the problems regarding the PC version and didn't want to delay that version nor give Iron Galaxy any extra support. Just like Rocksteady, they were too invested in the console versions and treated the PC version as an afterthought.
“I will say that it’s pretty rich for WB to act like they had no idea the game was in such a horrible state,” said one quality assurance tester who worked on the game for years. “It’s been like this for months and all the problems we see now were the exact same, unchanged, almost a year ago.”
Two sources, requesting anonymity to avoid jeopardizing their careers, spoke with Kotaku over the past week in hopes of explaining how the broken PC version of Arkham Knight made it out the door. They both said that Warner Bros. was aware of the many issues facing Arkham Knight on PC and that the publisher chose to ship the game regardless, not to maniacally screw over customers—but because they believed it was good enough.
Also revealed was Rocksteady completely misjudging how well the PS4 (and Xbox One) could run the game which is why it had several delays. Probably could have fixed a lot of PC issues around the same time had Rocksteady and/or Warner Bros actually cared about that version.
“Getting it to work on consoles was impossible for months,” said our tester source. “That’s part of why the game got delayed so many times, they were totally unprepared for how hard it was on next-gen consoles.”
Another source, who did not work on the QA team but was close to the game’s production, said this closely lined up with what they’d seen and heard throughout the game’s development.
In various meetings, QA teams were told the new consoles were “not nearly as easy to work with as [Rocksteady] expected” and testers should focus time on finding console bugs. This particular team was made up of roughly 100 people, with about 10% focused on the PC version.
“We reported literally thousands of bugs that were specific to the PC version relating to the frame rate,” said our QA source. “All sorts of fucked up texture issues. The Batmobile in particular has always fucked things up on PC.”
Been rumored for a while Iron Galaxy was working with just a watered down PS4 build of the game and got no help from either company to deal with the problems.
Kotaku's link has a few more stories and instances on how this became a bigger problem than it should have been.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family is a timed-exclusive for those who pony up for the season pass. It releases on July 14 for those people. For everyone else, it'll be available on July 21 for $6.99 on PSN and Xbox Live. The PC release will be "in the coming weeks," as Warner Bros. is likely concentrated on fixing that version before selling more content for it.
In terms of the overall Arkham storyline, this DLC pack is a prequel to Arkham Asylum. Has a new hacking feature and Robin's involved with the story.

Some new info was recently revealed regarding the upcoming Batgirl DLC pack.
Information is starting to come together for the Batgirl DLC, which will launch as part of the Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass and on its own for $6.99 (July 14 for the former, July 21 for the latter). Instead of a nebulous "new area" we now know that it will take place in the Seagate Amusement Park, and will deal with Commissioner Gordon, who has been kidnapped by The Joker -- as was previously known, it will take place before the events of the core game, and will likely hit a lot of the same notes as The Killing Joke and other established stories.
WB seems to be hyping up the hacking element, stating that Batgirl is "less powerful than batman," but her hacking is what "really separates her from the other characters." The Dual Play system is also in, as are collectibles and sidequests -- also, Harley Quinn's classic red and black outfit from The Animated Series.

Do you all play a lot or is the game really short?

Nah it's not short at all, I was playing it heavily.

Yeah. Pretty much the one suit and batmobile everybody wanted was the Tim Burton ones. I'll do new game plus with that stuff.
Only ones I want now are the Batman Beyond skin Steam got, and the return of The Animated Series skin from City.

A Matter of Family was ok. Not overly long, not overly hard but decent enough.

Both of those were the best. like it's one thing for a scary game but for this it was perfect.

According to leaked internal emails from Warner Bros, PC version won't be getting any major fixes done until September the earliest and November the latest.
Email was originally meant to be just for EB Games who probably asked for a status on that version and later pulled all PC copies of the game from sale.
The Australian branch of Kotaku has gotten its "press sneak" hands on a leaked internal email sent to EB Games by Warner Bros. stating the PC version of Arkham Knight won't be done until spring time, which for Australia means between September and November.
Due to this email EB Games has decided to pull all retail stock of the game -- which it had previously stopped selling -- and send it back to WB until the PC version is fixed.

Was previously announced by Warner Bros that all DLC for the game wouldn't be arriving for the PC until that version was fixed.

Can't imagine many PC will pick this up even when it's fixed due to all the crap it's had.

If Steam Refunds hadn't come in at the perfect time, they'd probably never have bothered fixing it. See: Arkham Origins where they were told by WB to work on the DLC instead of fixing bugs.

Played an hour or two last night. Batmobile feels awesome, but I can kind of see how the battles could get really tedious in the future, mainly with the slow cannon reload speed and missle meter build up. So I'm gonna put all my early upgrade points into the batmobile weapons systems so that part of the game stays somewhat exciting.

Stupid Batmobile. Was gearing up for a 1-on-1 slugfest with Deathstroke. Not Arkham Knight tank battle 2. Totally bummed out.
Right at the end. Will finish this tomorrow.

Played the Batgirl DLC yesterday. Like many said, not bad. But not great, either. Tracking down those chatter teeth was tedious. And that other stupid trophy that's there is gonna be a pain in the ass, too.
Red Hood DLC was a joke. Knocked that off in 10 minutes easy. I'm hoping Harley's story will be better.

10 min DLC?!
Fucking wank.
How long is the core game?

If you're talking about the main story, can't remember what I clocked in at when I finished. But it's nice and long. It can be short if you just push through the main story missions. But, as you might have read in the thread, don't do that.

A recent Steam page announcement reads, "Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Rocksteady and our partners are targeting an interim patch update for existing players to be released in August. This update will address many of the issues we listed in our June 27 update."
Main patch still expected to arrive a month later.

A modder actually has made a easy tool that fixes almost everything already. The guy is making Rocksteady, WB and Nvidia look like chumps. On the plus side, daylight mods are out for PC now.

Been grinding through getting all the riddler trophies etc recently. Got all the bombers, breakables and riddles, just need to get about 30 trophies and then I can fight The Riddler.
Still haven't finished the main story yet though, I've got up to the point where Scarecrow has taken Gordon and Robin, and you need to give yourself up.

Got all riddler trophies and locked him away in GCPD. It was the last of my side missions to complete so really pleased to have finally done that. Just went and finished the main story and Knightfall protocol....damn, what an ending.
Did anyone else notice Calendar Man in the news crew crowd outside Wayne Manor , a really cool call back to the earlier games when you uncover his secret message/easter egg.

PC version was recently added back to Steam for sale after being taken down due to a lot of technical issues plaguing the game. To celebrate the occasion, game is still very buggy on the platform and most if not all initial reviews got tagged as "pre-release." Making things a bit worse is Warner Bros revised the recommended specs but forgot to tell anyone about it until after the game went back on sale.
Warner Bros and/or Valve have been removing the special tag given to those early reviews after the negative backlash it generated.

In terms of patches improving things, Digital Foundry stated that wasn't the case since the big "interim" patch did nothing to fix any serious problems. Turns out the biggest thing the patch added or fixed was for better support for DLC packs.

To be fair, a lot of people can now refund the game any time in 2015 no matter how long you have played it.
