Transfering gamertag from 360 to One

So I'm tentatively thinking of finally upgrading my 360 to One. Now I know that during the set up you can transfer your gamertag over but just had a question which I can't seem to find an answer to.

I live in New Zealand but the gamertag I still use now is the one from when I was in the UK and it's still linked to the XBL UK store (as it's better than the NZ store, can't get Walking Dead on it). I've been looking at some bits and pieces online about setting the xbox one and having to select a region and then go through the transfer of the gamertag.

Does anyone know if having an overseas gamertag would effect anything? Or even if it's possible to do that now? I know lots of people had gamertags from different regions to get region specific games/items on the 360 but wondering if you can still use them now on the One.

Any ideas?

Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but you try calling Xbox customer service and pick their brain?

Could do, but I'm wondering whether bringing it to their attention might mess something up, like they might pull my subscription or something as I'm accessing stuff from a different region. It's a tricky one. I'm not sure where I read it but I thought that when the xbox one came out they were going to region lock stuff so people couldn't access other stores etc. I know you can migrate your gamertag to another region but I don't want to do that if possible as, like I've said, the NZ store sucks balls and Australia/NZ are waaaay to strict when it comes to games sometimes.

You can call them and give them the hypothetical situation and see what they say.

The issue they would have with the region lock is complying with AU/NZ media laws. Their hand would kinda be forced I would think. On the other hand, they may not care too much about things and just advise you to do it.

When I transferred my profile to One, it was only a matter of signing in to the console, nothing more, so it may not even be an issue.

Would I still pick my region as UK then as that's where the gamertag is associated with or NZ and sign in as normal?

I would pick UK if that is the region you want, but I wasn't even asked to my memory.

The only thing that could potentially suck is connecting to UK servers if you do multiplayer anything.
