Only two days ago I was asking where Bourne was, as he had been gone for what felt like forever.
I'm surprised that Teddy is gone though. I always had him down as one of those guys who would be with the company forever.
I'm not surprised at all about Yoshi Tatsu though. I can't remember the last time I actually saw him in a match, or in a match that was over a minute long, or in a match that he won. He was just never really used at all from day one. Kinda makes me think that they only brought him to the WWE just so they could say "We have an Asian guy on our roster".
I'm somewhat surprised about Camacho. I liked him when he was with Hunico and him being on NXT just made me think that he was safe and would return to the main roster soon.
I'm also not that surprised about Brodus. I still think that if they kept him as the unstoppable monster heel he was originally going to be, he would have went somewhere. He was great in that roll and I really enjoyed him. But for some reason, he became a funky dancing dinosaur.

Damn. The Funkasauraus could have been so much better. I hate when they have a perfectly fine fun babyface character and then turn him only to forget about him. What the fuck is the point? Same with Titus O'Neil. Was it really that important to break up a fine, fun midcard tag team to build a useless heel to job out to Big Show for a couple weeks and then forget about?

<font color=goldenrod>I was actually kinda shocked by the Teddy Long release in that I figured he was just a lifer at this point and had signed some sort of backstage/production/consulting type of contract. I figured his days as an on-screen performer were over. I was actually just reminiscing about Long as SmackDown GM...I know the endless tag matches are a punchline with him, but Long as GM from like 2004-06 or so reminds me of a time when I actually watched SmackDown every week to see guys who only wrestled there, before they abolished the brand split.
Drew and Jinder were definitely the biggest surprises. When 3MB first debuted I thought they were only going to last a couple of months and instead they stuck around over a year and a half, featured on Raw most weeks. They were never going to be more than a comedy group, but they did their jobs well. Pretty much anybody released from WWE can find indy work fairly easily, but especially these two. Heath surviving the cuts means WWE is at least aware that he is excellent. I imagine he'll get a Santino-esque comedy heel push circa 2007/08.
Brodus Clay feels like a big wasted opportunity. Heel Brodus could have been an absolute badass who could have easily gotten into the US/IC title picture with minimal effort. It seemed like they were letting him hash out a heel persona on NXT so definitely disappointing he didn't get another crack on the main roster. I think he would do wonderfully in Japan if he wanted to go that route.
Camacho is another guy who should be able to do great things in Japan if he wanted to go there. WWE saddled him with a shit gimmick and even after moving him back to NXT they didn't really change it at all.
I like Curt Hawkins, I really do. He was a solid hand in the ring and I have a soft spot for him because he's a suffering from the soul-sucking disease of being a Mets fan, just like I am. He really did seem best suited as a tag team guy, and I enjoyed his team with Tyler Reks but they'd done nothing with him since. He'd make an odd appearance on Superstars or NXT but barely. He started his own wrestling school probably because he knew the release was coming sooner or later, so I doubt this is too much of a shock to him. At least on the indies he'll be able to wrestle more than once every 3 months.
Aksana...she was pretty funny. Not a good worker in the ring or anything but that's not why I liked her. There are several divas who might be getting called up soon and they obviously weren't going to get rid of Cameron or Eva Marie due to Total Divas, sad to see her go though.
Yoshi Tatsu was the fucking man. But WWE just wasn't using him. I think the only main roster work he was getting was a token booking when they'd do a tour of Japan. I imagine he'll have no issues finding work, especially back in Japan. Kinda weird to think that WWE doesn't have a Japanese wrestler under their employ for the first time in ages, unless KENTA has actually signed.
Sad Evan Bourne never made it back. He was an idiot by allowing himself to get suspended a second time, but the injury he suffered was pretty brutal and it seemed he was working his ass off to make it back. My favorite Bourne match was a match he had against John Morrison on ECW, I believe that match was quite popular in IWC circles, actually. I bet those two get booked against one another on the indies.</font>

My new how and/or why do they still have jobs list:
Santino - i get he's a popular comedy gimmick, but they've pidgeonholed him so far into it thats all he ever really can be.
Kahli - although I get why, they could go find a better wrestler from India..or something..
Ryder - obvious
Kofi Kingston - they really should at least let him have one main event push sometime, even if he doesnt win. He seems to be the most (wasted) potential on this list.
Mojo Rawley - I include him because he's Mojo Rawley, which is reason enough.

I was so worried the Miz would be on the list. I have so much good relief that he is not.
We could still have Miz vs. Bray. I really want that feud to happen and with Ric Flair as the manager of the Miz so he and Bray can cut promos on one another.
But looking at the whole list I have on thing to say: Oh my goodness!!!

My new how and/or why do they still have jobs list:
Santino - i get he's a popular comedy gimmick, but they've pidgeonholed him so far into it thats all he ever really can be.
Who cares if that's "all he ever really can be"? He's fucking incredible at it. That's why, unlike most comedy jobbers of the current era, he's actually been consistently used.

The thing I love about Santino is that he shows these tiny glimses of badassery
wrapped up in being goofy and the crowd tends to eat it up.

From what I've seen of his OVW gimmick, he could actually play a pretty good badass character if needed. I'd love for them to tweak his gimmick so he can actually beat someone's ass in the ring and win matches but still be the exact same goofy character who is held back by his inability to take anything seriously.

Cena vs Rollins is the main event of Raw. Suddenly Teddy Long comes through the crowd, hops the railing and grabs a mic. "Now hold on playas! This is now... a TAG MATCH!" and Mahal and McIntyre jump the railing. Triple H and Orton try to hold them back at which point Teddy turns his attention to them. "Oh, you wanna try to stop us? TAG MATCH!" at which point Yoshi Tatsu, JTG, Hawkins and Bourne come out to face off with them. Triple H calls for security and then Teddy calls for his own security which brings Brodus and Camacho, both dressed in suits down from the crowd.
Everything that follows that night would suck huge balls but it would be an awesome 10 minutes or so.

Even though your armchair booking that you go on to do is great, but in a more pragmatic sense, you might be right about releases not neccessarily always meaning anything.
Yeah, most of the time, they do their housekeeping roster cuts, but occasionally you get stuff like them releasing "Matt Sydal", but then they hire "Evan Bourne". Wouldn't be surprised if they "release" Tyson Kidd, then stick him under that rumored mask gimmick and present him as a totally new guy they just hired.

Of all the people that got released, I think JTG could have had the most to do.
1. He could have been the new Virgil.
During Ted Jr's run Ted Jr asked R-Truth to be his Virgil. As JTG is all about the money, money, yeah yeah, the role fits. He could have been a smart ass behind Ted's back, and all "Yes sir, no sir" when Ted is looking. It could have been a set up to a full heel turn, or a bigger face turn when he turns on Ted.
2. A Corporate Thug or Gun for hire
In the same vein as being the new Virgil it's all about the money. Just now without a particular gimmick or person. It could have been "Hey, I want to get on tv more, so I'll attack Daniel Bryan or John Cena for Triple H!"
3. Become a tag team with...
almost any black guy. Yea, it's cheap, but he could have kept on as a team with almost any black guy. I think the only exception is Mark Henry. Also, Haku Jr would have been a good feel as gangsters.
4. Adopt a bully gimmick
Just straight up thuggin' and buggin'. As a gangster being an asshole bully is a perfect fit.
5. Go to NXT
Kinda like Kidd, just until there's SOMETHING for him.
Or become a trainer. Either way, from our understanding Triple H has put a lot of stock into NXT, so if people want to help out then he could have kept a contact even if it's off air to keep a job.

Yeah, he was horribly underused after he was moved from ECW and could've been the next Tajiri or Funaki if they had really wanted to build him.
Unfortunately, the sad fact is most fans will barely remember him alone, let alone the one even vaguely notable thing I can think of off the top of my head about his WWE career, and that's his debut on ECW where he attacked Shelton Benjamin for mocking him in a racist manner, leading to an impromptu match that Tatsu won.
Other than that, Tatsu did absolutely nothing to contribute to the company.

WWE To Cut $20 Million From Budget This Year?
- As you well know by now, WWE made significant (if not unexpected) talent cuts last week by releasing eleven on-screen talents from their contracts. According to WrestleZone, this is part of an ongoing effort to cut about $20 million from the company's operating budget for this year.
Previous reports and statements by WWE have indicated that they will take a loss due to the WWE Network and other elements, and this would lead into the company's cost-cutting measures. In addition to the talent cuts, the company is cutting out some production elements such as Fandango's golden curtain entrance and the lift that Bad News Barrett used. With the company now able to take the truck used to transport those entrances off the road, they have saved about $250,000.

The two things that come to mind are:
1) his twitter feed where somone broke the head off his action figure.
2) the potential angle and subsequent push against Tensai back when they were playing that whole thing straight... kinda like Rusev, but back to my point... Tatsu was basically "offended" by Tensai's gimmick and mistreatment of Sakimoto, and ASKED for a match against that guy we weren't supposed to remember was Albert. Instead of seeing the potential male version of Gail Kim vs Awesome Kong they had on their hands, they made it a one-off squash match that ultimately did NOTHING for either guy.

<font color=goldenrod>Like so many other teams in the past decade, Cryme Tyme were split up for basically no reason. They thought they could push Shad Gaspard as a monster heel but soon realized he wasn't very good and abandoned it within weeks and just used JTG as enhancement talent.
Cryme Tyme always got a decent reaction. Should have just kept them around. Good team to use to get an up and coming heel duo over and they were over enough that they could have been thrown into a quick Tag Title program in a pinch.</font>

They are also insane if they don't try and get Drew Galloway in. Great worker, great look, and his personality might click better with the smaller arena. Getting on the mic and rambling passes as a promo there. And the interactions with Taryn have the potential to be great, providing both are comfortable working with one another.
That being said, I think Galloway would be making a bit of a foolish decision to sign with TNA. I think only guys who know they are well and truly done with WWE should give them a shot. JTG and Matt Sydal are the two that I just couldn't see the WWE bringing back. Brian Meyers too. They kept him around for years and never did ANYTHING much with him over the past few years.

<font color=goldenrod>I liked Curt Hawkins. I didn't think he was ever going to be more than a tag team specialist, but still thought he was decent enough to find regular work on Superstars or Main Event. I like his Gatecrashers team with Vance Archer but then they just broke them up for no reason once WWE went into one of their patented "eh, fuck tag team wrestling" moods. His team with Reks was entertaining as well, just bad luck that Reks wanted to move on.
They also had him team with Ryder once when Hawkins got drafted to Raw in 2011, but it was abandoned after a week. Ryder then enjoyed his brief singles push but has floundered since. As soon as Reks was granted his release I thought they should have just but Ryder and Hawkins back together permanently as a comedy team. Neither man had been doing anything, they've got chemistry, they have a history of teaming before, they're childhood friends in real life, etc. Ah well. At least Hawkins has had no trouble finding work and is running a training school.</font>
