I'm watching some late era WCW on the network and he is just unbearable. Looking back at it, I was about 10,11 years old when WCW folded and I became a fan in '97 with the Sting/Hogan angle. I always loved Tony Schiavone and Heenan on commentary but after Heenan left things went REALLY downhill very fast.

I'm of the opinion that commentary is one of the most important aspects of a successful match/show and Mark Madden ruined alot of shows for me, even as a little kid. His voice itself is like nails on a chalkboard but combine that with his constant self-promoting and all the "insider" terms and little "shoot" jabs at everyone ( which you can tell he thinks are just the most clever and cutting-edge of comments) and it's just a melting pot of garbage.

Bottom line, he's the drizzling shits. Has anyone ever actually been a fan of this guy ?

I'm not sure anyone has ever marked out for Madden.

Yes WCW had the brilliant idea to put Mark Madden and Tony Schvonie on the same commentary team *shudders* speaking off looking back he wasn't as bad as I remember he was worse its a wonder the company didn't fold sooner on its announce team alone.

He replaced Heenan on the commentary team. Even if he was the second coming of Gordon Solie I would have hated that fat piece of crap. Yash, do you live around Pittsburgh area? Doesn't he have some sort of sports radio show around there?

Mark Madden was the first guy to mark out for the Spinaroonie. Booker T owes him his entire main event career.

I'm from Boston but I have heard that he's got a pretty successful radio show somewhere. My question to that is WHY???

And Schiavone gets alot of heat and I never really understood why. I always loved his shrieks when Sting would repel from the rafters STIINNNGGG!!!!!

Turn on WEEI or 98.5 to figure that out. Annoying people are successful on the radio,

1. He gets heat for spilling the beans on Foley even though it was Bischoff directing him.
2. "This is the greatest night in the history of our sport."
3. "Were outta time! Bye!"
4. Announced in sweatpants/sweatshirts.

Who was the guy that said Hogan was the 3rd Man before he got to the ring?

I didn't dream that right? Someone flubbed big time correct?

Heenan always got a "pass" on that because of who he was, but that was one of, if not the, dumbest calls in the history of pro-wrestling.

It was Heenan in an almost habitual questioning of Hulk Hogan for years on end.

Never had to endure Madden, as I had given up on WCW by that point. I did like Schiavone and when WCW was purchased, I did hope he would end up with a gig on SmackDown! just to have a different voice from Micheal Cole. I always felt like Tony was reacting to what was happening, rather than reading a script.

You neglected to mention:

5. Calling moves "sidewalk slam" that were in no way a sidewalk slam. Hell, some of them weren't even slams.

It may have been him ribbing the fans in general or constantly doing that for the benefit of one or two people who personally thought it was funny, but it made him seem like more of a dumbass on the mic than he already seemed.

And I think the whole reason for Madden or Stevie Ray in the booth was to make him seem better by comparison.

As far as Mark Madden is concerned, one of the few things great about him was him being a on-mic cheerleader for Lance Storm.

Had they told him beforehand he wouldn't have said it. WCW mismanagement is at fault not Bobby.

Not to shill, but on the nWo podcast we did last week we had a debate about this line, and I still contend that the only people that think this are people watching the PPV retrospectively and not at the time it happened.

Heenan was questioning EVERYBODY on the Nitros leading up to Bash at the Beach, he was totally paranoid, and even on the Pay-Per-View he accused Dusty Rhodes of being the third man. Plus, Heenan always played that game with Hogan. Like Jesse, he always called him out on the eye rakes and the back scratches. And also - just because Heenan said it, it didn't sway anybody's opinion, because Hogan was such a landmark as a babyface that it was impossible to conceive of him going full-blown heel.

To translate it to the modern day, if they did a similar angle with Cena, Cena walks down the aisle and JBL screamed "Who's side is Cena on!?", every single fan's gut instinct is to say - Fuck off JBL, Cena is never going heel, we know this, it's just not on the cards.

Retrospectively, with the knowledge that Hogan turns, was a mega-heel and led the nWo, that line raises people's ears. In execution at the time, it fit right in.

Oh yeh, and Madden sucks.

How? How was it not natural for Heenan to immediately accuse Hogan of being the bad guy?
