More and more, people are noticing the gap in quality between the different philosophies behind the main roster shows (RAW, Main Event, SmackDown, and, I guess, Superstars), which are still primarily overseen by Vince McMahon, and the Triple H-supervised NXT.
After appearing on the Steve Austin Show, Vince made some comments which apparently affected backstage morale, as a lot of people felt that their efforts were being undercut by their boss. Triple H reportedly gave a backstage speech to the boys and gals, but it only made matters worse.
[/BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE INTERNET MODE]
Regardless, critically speaking, NXT's latest Takeover event on the WWE Network, "R-Evolution," was far better received than WWE's staple December Pay-Per-View, "Tables, Ladders & Chairs...now with Stairs!" Some dirt sheet reports even suggested that some main roster talent were hoping not to upstage NXT talent, so that Triple H would be asked to take more of a leadership role in regards to the main product.
This is allegedly not the first time Vince and Triple H have butt-heads on creative direction. Vince apparently wanted The Rock to be Brock Lesnar's WrestleMania opponent at the big show this year, whereas Triple H went batting for his NXT boy. Wait, I thought I was out of "believe everything you read on the internet" mode?
One thing you can see, is a disparagy between NXT's established stars within the NXT Galaxy, and their presentation on RAW, Main Event and SmackDown to the WWE Universe. Emma lost her wrestling ability and drive and became a female Santino Marella; Adam Rose wasn't a wink and a nudge, but a funny hat that added sunglasses over time; Bo Dallas' journey to douche-baggery wasn't effectively told, as he just showed up as a douche-bag; even Paige lost her air of dominance, and spent most of her matches looking vulnerable, only to snatch defeat from her dominating Total Diva opponents. You don't need to be an IWC conspiracy theorist to notice the difference in presentation between NXT's top stars during their stay on NXT, and once they get called up and get handled by Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn for the first time.
Vince McMahon has reportedly been relieving more and more of his duties over the year, although he still remains the final say on the WWE's main televised programming.
This leads me (eventually I'd get there) to my Heyman-stylized HYPOTHETICAL:
Would Vince McMahon relieving creative control of SmackDown and Main Event to Triple H be a good move for the WWE?
Yes, I guess this is a "Brand Split 2.0" discussion, with it more resembling the original idea for the roster separation, with fixed rosters, and not the "anything could change at any time" show-jumping mess it eventually became. The biggest divide would actually be creatively, as Triple H would put his own director in charge, have his own writing staff, and develop talent in the way that he wants to.
Is Vince McMahon the sort who would get a kick out of competing against his own son-in-law? What would you anticipate the results would be if Triple H had free-reign over the Tuesday tapings, and got Main Event and SmackDown? Could you see the product getting more attention than RAW? Would Vince ever concede that maybe Triple H's time to run RAW is now, and take even further steps towards retirement and immortality within the WWE Hall of Fame? Which star(s) do you think Triple H build his "Triple H Tuesdays" around? And which stars do you think Vince would let him have, and who would definitely stay in the motherland?
DISCU...I mean, HYPOTHESIZE.
