View Full Version : Was Roman Reigns' loss to the Big Show a bad decision?

Roman Reigns suffered his first pinfall loss in singles competition on RAW when he lost to Big Show. I was thoroughly disappointed in how the loss was handled. The commentators undersold it as if it meant nothing.

Do you remember the last time Roman Reigns lost via pinfall or submission? Feel free to post your opinion o the topic.

Yes I thought it was terrible. If you're going to go ahead and make Reigns YOUR GUY then don't do some half-ass shit like that on Raw. Thought it was an awful decision.

him losing clean is not a bad decision. him facing the big show for the 10 time in 10 shows and never having another opponent is a horrendous decision

I can't remember him ever losing via pinfall or submission other than that tag team elimination match where one of the Usos pinned him after a splash from the top rope.

the front page acknowledged it was his first singles loss.

He didn't lose clean.

Guess they're damned if they push him to the moon and have him win every match, and damned if he takes a loss too?

His last singles loss was in NXT to Leo Kruger.

Normally I'd agree with this level of frustration, but I've "resigned" to the fact that they're gonna go ahead and push Reigns. If you're gonna make him your guy, why have him lose to someone like Big Show? Just seems like they're throwing darts on a board and not sure what exactly they are trying to do

If they are gonna push him to the moon, he should look like an unstoppable beast or at least near Lesnar's level. Not just another one of those guys who loses randomly on Raw like that and then we're supposed to be invested in seeing him fight for the title on PPV (ie. pretty much every main eventer over the past decade plus).

How many times did Daniel Bryan lose? Did it make him winning at WrestleMania more sweeter? Yes! Yes! Yes!

Shut up.

But they need to make the heels look strong and make the faces look "weak and vulnerable" so when they beat the heels it is a hugely triumphant moment!

Yes and at the same time he's not really benefiting by feuding with Big Show either.

I'm just going to throw this out there:

I legitimately believe they had no idea they hadn't had him eat a singles pinfall on TV yet. They can barely keep their shit straight from one show to the other already (as in, "Here's Smackdown's main event for this week!" on Raw, and then the segment never actually happens). Without them constantly harping on him being unpinned/unsubmitted every week for the past two years, I'm pretty convinced they had no clue. Someone pitched it as a way to make him more sympathetic, everyone nodded, and that was that. No one thought about whether or not he'd been pinned in singles competition.

this is so pinpoint accurate, I honestly think dark one works at WWE.

If you wanna build up a guy as an underdog and make it look like a fluke when he wins, that's a great strategy. Roman Reigns is not the kind of guy to get over as the sympathetic underdog though. He's a guy who needs to act like a badass and back it up.

I didn't see RAW, but didn't Reigns lose due to outside distraction? (i.e. someone interfered and distracted Reigns, which lead to Big Show punching him out). If so, then I don't think it really affected Reigns' credibility all that much.

I'm pretty sure Reigns will get a clean return victory over Big Show between now and Wrestlemania.

Reigns jobbing to Big Show probably isn't the best thing in the world, but I think the WWE wants to try and keep things as 'realistic' as possible, and have lots of 'shades of grey' as opposed to things just being 'black' and 'white.'

NormanSmiley

if they want reigns to get over he needs to just lay waste to people, heel or face. take out show, then take out ryback, talk shit about carrying ambrose, then get a hold of heyman and superman punch him. in 4 weeks you have the ultimate push going

I always ask myself, "would they have done this with Austin in 1998". I know nobody will ever be Steve, but it's how I think.

Chimera

I don't think it was a bad decision but what they do with Big Show next is important. Big Snow needs to start winning matches and maybe get the title again...then it is a good decision. But if he keep jobbing, then its a bad decision. In my opinion.

Reigns is an "unstoppable beast" going on to face another "unstoppable beast" he should not get the Austin booking, or Daniel Bryan booking.

If you loo at the way Devastator was booked during most of his singles matches in CHW, you see the best way in my opinion, to book a big man. Not too much of a monster to make it unbelievable but enough realism to make it interesting.

Big Show has actually only lost by pinfall or submission three times since Brock destroyed him at Royal Rumble 2014, jobbing only to Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt and uh, Stardust.

I stopped caring about Big Show as a threat after about the 27th transition from "I'm a monster" to "I'm a glorified jobber"

Things I like about Roman Reigns:
- his double leg kick from the floor to the apron
- that one spear to the Big Show from the ramp

Things I dislike about Roman Reigns:
- everything else
