View Full Version : The more I think about it, I think Kurt Angle is the greatest wrestler of all time.

I don't have some huge grandiose argument or a ton of statistics or anything, but he was ALWAYS entertaining. Undeniable in the ring, fantastic on the mic, believable pedigree...dude is just straight IT.

Do you agree that Kurt Angle is the GOAT? If not, then who?

I think you could have made a case had his rise not been curtailed the way it ended up.

Up through 2002 I think he was destined to be the best. Then he was shipped off to smackdown, had health problems, went to ECW, did a whole lot of nothing for awhile and then was released. To be that was the end of his career. All 8 years hes been in TNA or whatever length its been couldnt be worth less to me.

"problems" or not, he should have been the main focus of the WWE and he never was.

I blame HHH.

He was pretty good in TNA too, though.

As far as being the 'total package', the only other person you could really put in his league is Shawn Michaels.

Kurt is and will always be the GOAT.

I think he knows himself well enough to incorporate the right stuff into his character. That was evidenced in his WWF/E run, especially in the early part.

He's a legit wrestler and one of the most entertaining of his era and still could be today if he wasn't invested in other careers outside wrestling. As much as I think he deserves to come back for a big WM sendoff, the part of me that respects him knows that w/e he chooses to do I'll stand by it.

For me it is HBK, his big matches always had these emotional storylines and allowed you to get invested. True, part of that was how WWE pushed him, but the stories he told in the ring with opponents were amazing and I miss them so much.

I loved Angle, but there were so many more times I was invested in an HBK storyline than an Angle one.

Angle was a 9 in everything, but the stories and feuds, and even longevity, have to go to HBK and Flair. They were 10's in the ring and 10's for their storytelling and the emotion they brought to big matches.

Angle was incredible at everything, but I don't think I'd even consider him as a contender for GOAT since his run in "big time" was pretty short and he's spent half of his career in TNA doing terrible storylines and jobbing to everyone from Eric Bischoff's son to Derrick Bateman.

I only know flair from 1998 -->, but Kurt was a much better wrestler than flair.

For me, it will always be Michaels.

But Angle COULD HAVE been. If it hadn't been for the neck injury, the "personal demons," and the jump to TNA, Angle could have been the best ever. As it is, he's definitely in my top ten, but too many factors working against him (none of them in-ring) to call him the best.

He's up there in my opinion.

Bret Hart is the best. Despite being Canadian, he over came that handicap to be the best rassler ever.

Kurt Angle never really had a boring patch to his WWE career. Granted, it really wasn't that long in the scheme of things (it's weird to think that we've known Dolph Ziggler as "Dolph Ziggler" for about as long as Kurt Angle was in the WWE), but even guys like Chris Jericho, Edge and Shawn Michaels had autopilot patches where they weren't really doing anything interesting. Kurt Angle was always engaging.

They should have Rusev remain undefeated until Angle is ready to return to the WWE.

I had hope for a return at Rumble, with Rusev dominating, the countdown hits 0, and out comes Angle to an enormous pop. Could have been amazing, damn it.

Flair was the total package, too.

I'd put Angle just a little behind both of them but not much.

I would honestly put Angle slightly above Flair. There is a little bit of truth to the criticisms of Flair's matches being somewhat formulaic. Nowhere near as much as his detractors like to think, but I think Angle definitely has a lot more versatality than Flair and leads to greater variety in the way his matches play out.

But HBK is above both for me.

Not even going to consider the Japanese guys. I'm a huge fan of that stuff, but the style is just way too different to fairly compare them with everyone else. Got my own separate list for them.

Fignuts
02-27-2015, 11:24 PM
Really wish Angle would have done more in Japan. Would have loved to see him tie up with all the big stars over there during his prime. He would have fit right in with his intense style too.

Beth Phoenix and Chyna were the greatest of all time and Victoria and Ivory.

Kurt Angle, the overall package, is better than Ric Flair. TNA whatever, you guys are believing the hype of the wrestling industry. If Angle had been put in the same situations as Flair, he would have shone just as bright. You can't hold that against him.

I think Angle is possibly the most TALENTED wrestler of all time, but his career was derailed by the sorts of things that Michaels and Flair were both able to come back from (injuries, politics, personal problems, etc.), so it's hard for me to call him the greatest.

Leaning towards no as the GOAT but do agree on him being really amazing overall. Maybe not first tier or Mt Rushmore type greatness but easily 2nd tier greatness.

Nah Ric Flair was the man, the nature boy he liked his women au naturel.

Hence why he kept going Wooooooooooo

Soon Sting will be doing that when he gives Hunter a good ass poundiing at the end of their match. After that night, we'll all know who has "The Authority".

I can name a few:
Angle being inducted into the TNA hall of fame.
Jeff Hardy's debut
Samoa Joe in the beginning
Stings debut
X division

Oh right.

I suggested maybe he should have made a guest appearance on Raw in Nashville but there's more chance of Stephen Hawking playing QB for the Cowboys than JJ ever setting foot in the WWE again or both parties burying the hatchet etc.

Most overrated and undeserving wrestler of all time. Sure he played a role in establishing TNA but what a success that was lol?

I can't imagine the WWE would try to force him to work full-time at his age. Angle returning for a few matches here and there would just be good business for the WWE. His style seems like it would be the most fitting of all the big name stars yet to return to the company.

Apparently Daniel Puder is returning to wrestling. It'd be pretty sick if TNA did an Angle vs. Puder storyline, even if the iron isn't exactly hot.

He would be great in TNA. They would give him the freedom to be himself and they could play off the Kurt Angle fued that never happened in WWE.

Kurt Angle is the ultimate definition of "The Ultimate Package". He has it all, mic skills, wrestling skills and charisma like no one else. Not to mention he is a gold medalist.
Every company needs one or two "guys with everything". Like Swede Savard in the CHW, Kurt Angle was the "go to" guy and like Swede returned recently, I expect Kurt Angle to return to the WWE one day and capture some gold!
