View Full Version : Who Would Have Before But Won't Now

The titles have merged together and that means less wrestlers get to claims to holding a main title for the WWE. Who are some people who you believe would have won the title before but will not anymore?
The first person that comes to mind is Ryback. He will be thrown into a few more main events for the triple threats and fatal four way matches but I don't see him ever getting to hold the title. Might get 1 or 2 1 on 1 matches against the champ but that is it.
Dean Ambrose is the second person that comes to mind for me. He is a AMAZING talent but does not seem to fit the mold to be THE WWE CHAMPION. Which I don't mind because he is good enough to not really need the title to be interesting/sellable (Like Bray).

Big Show, Kane, Henry are all pretty much done with the title seen now. I don't see Ryback ever getting that push. Ziggler has had his time maybe 1 short WWE title rein. Barrett is one I would like to see get the title but that ship may have sailed to.
Guys like Barrett and Cody seemed like shoo-ins to be WHC, a little more difficult to see them as WWE Champion.

Cesaro.

I thought, perhaps, Goldust might get one final run with the big gold belt for making such a character thrive for 20 years, and it honestly would have been fun with the shape he is in now. Bummer.

Agreed the likes of Henry, Kane and Show are done and I predict they'll be retired within the next 5 years. Swagger doesn't look like he will be a WWE title holder again and neither will Cody or Dustin Rhodes be pushed to that level. Cesaro maybe. Tyson Kidd hell no. Ryback probably not.

Ryback was getting ridiculously over... and it was intentional. He was a prototypical Vince "sports entertainment" guy, they obviously expressed a desire to make him a star and unlike with most of the guys like that they try to push, the crowd was massively behind him. They didn't even accidentally fuck something up and drop the ball. Instead it's like they intentionally said "Holy shit, we meant to push this guy as a star AND the crowd is accepting him and loving it! Cool! Let's make him a jobber now." Seriously might be the dumbest booking decision in wrestling history.

Vince was probably pissed about the Goldberg chants and said the hell with Ryback.

Rusev might be put in this category depending on how this this Cena feud goes. I think he would make a good heel WWE champion though.

Have to go with John Cena on this one! Why would you want anyone else with it.

So you don't think Cena will win the title again? I'm sure he gets a couple more reins at least.

Except for everything they have done with Johnny of Curtis, right? RIGHT?!

Ya, I can't see Cody getting the title now. Barrett has a chance to be a nice transitioning champ if he can stay healthy. He has the look and charisma to be able to climb the card but injuries have been a nightmare for him.

Add Damien Sandow

Don't really believe Sandow had any sort of a chance at anything above the IC/US belt ever. I don't even see him being in a main event at a ppv. He is entertaining but the spark to be in the main event is not there with him.

He would have had at least one run. He won the MITB once, but he ran into a the shovel and shallow grave that is John Cena. I bet you if it was, say Dolph Ziggler or Ambrose with the Big Gold Belt, we would be having a totally different conversation.

Correct. But at least they didn't go too far with pushing him in order to show how great things could be before crushing all hope.

I would like Johnny Curtis more if they would stop changing his damn dancer every month. Let them build chemistry and actually seem like a unit.

Or you know, not do the stupid dancing gimmick in the first place :|
Not a HUGE fan of his, but his talent is seriously being wasted in WWE.

The dancing gimmick could evolve (Probably should have by now) if they wanted to push him.

To what, Marenga, Salsa, Tango, The Mashed Potato, The Robot, The Electric Slide, The Tootsie Roll, The Butterfly, The dance from the song about "Chicken Noodle Soup with a Soda on the Side"?
Or should he just shake his ass, watch himself, shake his thing and show the WWE Universe what he's workin with while backing it up and dropping it like its hawt?
So fucking confused.

Well, lets just pretend Summer Rae was still his dance partner. One match someone accidentally or intentionally his Summer Rae and shes "injured" for a certain amount of time. He would become a lost dancer.
Here is where you would evolve his character into something real. Multiple roads to take from this position.

This does not work now because he gets a new dance partner every month regardless.

I had an idea after the Jericho feud when he was injured where he could play off a leg injury and do completely serious vignettes where he's almost in tears because the doctors have told him his career is over. Then Byron Saxton or whoever they send to interview him is like "Your wrestling career just started. I understand how difficult this must feel" and he's just like "... My wrestling career? My wrestling career is fine. I'll never dance the same again though." And this leads to a series of comedy vignettes over the weeks where he goes through physical training just to be able to dance again. I mean... if you're gonna go with the gimmick, go all out with it.

After Raw though, I have a tiny bit of hope. The "I should be sharing my love of dance with the WWE universe" thing could actually catch on outside of just the UK crowd that night. He's beyond likable, ridiculously charismatic and as Johnny Curtis, he showed on NXT that he has more personality than a pro wrestler has any business having. He can connect with the crowd and transcend the gimmick. In the same way The Undertaker had a silly gimmick which he subtly transcended over time, there's no reason Fandango can't, if given a little help from his booking, slowly transcend the gimmick and become a unique, massively over character.
