so every now and again I get bored or have too much free time on my hands and write some variety of list. This one is entrances, be it a singular instance or an entrance you have seen week in, week out. "As usual" (he says like these are hugely popular and regular things) tell me why I'm right, why I'm wrong, what I've missed, why your choices are better than mine and so on. I chose 18. Why 18? No idea.

18: The Wyatt Family

From "we're here" to the theme, the spectacle of the lights in crowd, the general mellowness compared to the vicious style of Bray and co. It's Cape Fear or Deliverance in pro wrestling form.




17: Prince Devitt

Literally months before he started doing this, Devitt was a pretty bland pale jr. heavyweight that you would never have guessed contained the charisma that he did. Then he formed the Bullet Club and it all changed. He gets carried to the ring and his jacket is better than Jericho's. Chose this specific one because "the real rock and rolla has rolled up to Osaka and I'm gonna fucking play a tune for all you mother fuckers" is my favourite bit of shit talking to a crowd ever.

16:Sting @ Starrcade 1997

Because if you're going to make your first proper entrance in about 16 months, you should probably make it pretty fucking cool.

15:Grado

Unless you're from the UK or have seen any of the TNA tapings from the UK, you probably won't know who Grado is. And with fair reason, he's an out of shape bloke from Scotland that is as physically imposing as a soft bowl of fruit. Where Grado wins is his obscene amount of charisma that has forged probably the strongest fanbase/indy wrestler connection anywhere on Earth. If anybody else walked into the middle of 1500 drunken Scottish people gyrating to Madonna's "Like A Prayer", they'd probably leave in an ambulance. Not this guy.

14:CM Punk @ Money In The Bank 2011

If you watched the build to MITB 2011, the start of the so called "Summer of Punk", this doesn't need explaining. The perfect blurring of the lines between reality and pro wrestling fiction, the will he/won't he contract saga and a shit hot hometown Chicago crowd produced the loudest sustained reaction for any pro wrestlers since WrestleMania X8.

13:Kazuchika Okada

My favourite current entrance in wrestling from my favourite current wrestler. If Ric Flair was Japanese and in his prime today, you'd get Kazuchika Okada. Extravagent robes, money falling from the ceiling, pouring with confidence and a bad ass theme. Only this one also includes a dinosaur and a big fuck off sword.

12: Triple H

The entrance is a huge part of his act and he's had it nailed down for 15 years. Not to mention he can't go to WrestleMania and not have the best entrance on the show. I dare you to tell me you haven't spat water out because of it.

10: Finn Balor


Only guy to make the list twice. Started wearing the paint for big matches towards the end of his NJPW run and on a bunch of comic book villain themed outfits/paint jobs for indy shows before starting in NXT. This entrance is going to be one of the biggest things in wrestling once he hits the main roster. It's basically a license to print money. Imagine what it's going to look like in Cowboy Stadium at WrestleMania next year.

9. Ric Flair @ WrestleMania XXIV

The music and the fact that it's Flair alone always made his entrances great but this one in particular is special because of the occasion, the grandeur, the awareness that we were seeing his "final match" (wink) and so on. WrestleMania and pro wrestling in general is all about images like the one here when the pyro goes off.

8: Minoru Suzuki

Imagine Stone Cold Steve Austin coming out to a Bonnie Tyler's most famous song and the entire crowd screaming "A Total Eclipse of the Heart" at the end of the chorus and it not seeming ridiculous at all. The Japanese version of that is Minoru Suzuki and Kaze Ni Nare.

7: Ultimate Warrior

It's Warrior and his entrance screams "I'M BATSHIT FUCKING CRAZY!" whilst maybe making you think "I'D LIKE TO BE BATSHIT FUCKING CRAZY TOO!" and start shaking the poor old dear sitting next to you.

6: The Brood

5: Shinsuke Nakamura

Because he's currently the coolest thing ever. Has more charisma than almost the rest of the wrestling world combined and it's all on show in this entrance. YeaOh!

4: Goldberg

For a small amount of time, nothing in pro wrestling got a crowd pumped up like Bill Goldberg, be it the spear, the jackhammer or his immense entrance, specifically the security guards and the smoke out of the nostrils gimmick. You could be in the ring knowing the whole thing is a work and still be intimidated by it. Probably because there was actually a decent chance you may wind up seriously injured.

3: Undertaker

Because it's a WrestleMania moment every single time he does it, even when it's not at WrestleMania. There is nothing in the history of professional wrestling quite like the "gong" hitting followed by the build to the organ at WrestleMania.

2: Chris Jericho debuts on RAW is WAR

The greatest debut in the history of professional wrestling. The pop alone when the word "JERICHO" revolves on the screen makes it. The build, the countdown, the pyro etc are all just icing on the cake.

1: Macho Man Randy Savage

Because never in a million years should Land of Hope and Glory be an entrance theme for a psychotic sounding man in a either a giant cape and crown or wearing an outfit that looks like it's colour were chosen by that slightly idiotic toddler nephew you have that you have to put up with. But it did and throw in Elizabeth and you had pretty much the most perfect thing in the history of the business.

Atsushi Onita's entrance for his death match with Masa Chono was pretty damn awesome.

the fans actually pelt Onita with garbage they hate him so much here.

He just gets so much heat here and manages to still look like a arrogant a-hole. This is truly one of the few times I've ever seen Japanese fans throw trash at a wrestler.

Chono's entrance was bad ass too at the end.

I know they're listed as "honorable mention", but NAO was special in that, before the "aping Michael Buffer" routine set in, it was just Road Dogg shooting nightly on a live mic. He was getting the team over in a memorable, can't miss whatever wacky shit he's gonna say way AND taking the time to promo when tv time was a bit more scarce. It was kind of like a piece of furniture that appeals to both form and function. Only with words.

And I'm honestly shocked nobody here mentioned The Godfather. Bringing "hoes" to the ring, and offering his opponent an ass whoopin' in the ring or a potential 3-way with the two escorts... "an offer you can't refuse".

Punk at MITB was the best show Ill ever be at so I'm pretty biased there. Enjoyed the Japanese stuff since I never have much of a chance to see that. Wish I had more context for them but the entrances are nice.

Ill throw out HHH's 2002 Royal Rumble entrance as being cool. Just remember thinking "thats a bad bad man" while he's standing there all shadowy.
