Have always wondered why we didn't have one of these. Thought it'd be a good spot to post old matches, thoughts and pictures from the the WWF, NWA and the rest of the territories.
Just finally watched Billy Graham's 20 Years Too Soon DVD. Been meaning to watch this for a while. Very good documentary. Happy they showed the Dusty rhodes vs Graham Texas Death Match. Such incredible mic work between those two. Still can't believe Billy adopted a martial arts gimmick.

this is a great idea!
Dusty's feud and matches with Superstar were great. It's too bad Dusty didn't have a long term run in the WWWF/WWF til late in his career.
in the mid to late 70s he would've been awesome there.
Dusty in his final MSG appearance til 1989.

sadly women's wrestling was nothing more than a touring attraction gimmick in the states.
most of these girls today can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag.
All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling had some amazing matches over the years.

Some people don't like the non-finish, but I love it. The fact that they're too exhausted and beat the crap out of each other too much to continue is fantastic to me. And normally I wouldn't be a fan of that kind of ending, but their excellent selling, and the stiff shots at the end really makes it work

Besides Seth, has anyone else seen Dick Murdoch wrestle before? By far my favourite of that era.
He seemed to amp up the Three Stooges stuff when he hit the WWF, especially in singles matches. I have a match from an old MSG show in 1984 where he faces Afa, and all Dick Murdoch does is bump hilariously with his amazing facial expressions and call Afa a Jungle Bunny. The most entertaining 20 draw I've ever seen. The crowd at one point gave Murdoch who was the heel a standing ovation after a hilarious drawn out bump.

He seemed to be famous for doing the 3 Stooges act.
its almost alarming he was only 37 in 1984 in the WWF. He looks like a guy 10-20 years older.
Pre-Expansion WWF is actually pretty interesting and fun to watch.
Bob Backlund however held onto the belt for much too long for my liking.

Watched a Ivan Putski vs Billy Graham from 1977 with Graham as champ. The crowd HATED Graham and ent nuts for Putski.
Later watched Backlund vs Graham 1982 and the crowd was dead. Keep in mind, this was Graham's martial arts gimmick. Both matches at MSG. I never got Bob Backlund. His comebacks just came off so phony.

if you wanna know more about why fans to this day love the Von Erich boys in Texas you need to see this documentary.
This one is a great companion piece to WWE's World Class documentary.
this one was made by independent filmmaker Brian Harrison a year or so before Kevin sold the tapes to WWE.
Their show aired on Saturday nights opposite of Saturday Night Live. World Class would get a 14 rating whereas SNL would get a 9 or 10 rating.

I always enjoyed WCCW, far more than any of the NWA territories. Great wrestling combined with a bit of "New York pizazz" . The wrestlers had a great degree of showmanship.
Hard to believe how many wrestlers from WCCW are now gone.
Kerry, David, Chris and Mike Von Erich
Gino Hernandez
Missing Link
Chris Adams
Buddy Roberts and Terry Gordy
Bruiser Brody
Etc....
It's really amazing how few stars from that territory are left.

World Class' tv product was ahead of the WWF's at that time.
the way they lit the arena, the musical entrances, the vignettes & etc.
WCCW was doing stadium shows for their big events long before WWE made it popular.
these guys are all dead too at a young age:
Buzz Sawyer
Matt Borne
Bam Bam Bigelow
Mike Davis
Scott Irwin
Referee/Ring Announcer Ralph Pulley - Died from AIDS in 1992
Rick Rude
Jeff Raitz
Jeep Swenson
Haru Sonada
Billy Travis

Without a doubt. WWF's weekly T.V was pretty pedestrian at that time.

to me the saddest story of the Von Erichs would be Mike.
Mike didn't want to wrestle. His dad Fritz pushed him into it.
He wanted a career in music as he liked playing guitar. It got worse after David's death as he now had to be the replacement for David due to their similar facial features.
Mike shoulder injury and subsequent battle with Toxic Shock Syndrome really threw him for a loop. He had really high fevers of 106-108 degrees which fried his brain badly.
His in ring work was never comparable to a Ric Flair or a Lou Thesz. He was downright awful to be quite honest.
Mike's in ring work suffered greatly after the Toxic Shock. His promos got worse due to his now slurred speech.
His dad does he all he can to shove Mike back in the ring as soon as possible. He returned to the ring some 11 months later in July 1986.
Mike's addiction to Alcohol and Drugs worsened after the hospitalization as he was depressed and frustrated. He was tired of having to be David.
He ultimately ended up committing suicide by overdosing on placidyl.
Kerry presents Mike with his old ring jacket for Mike's first match. Michael Hayes of course interrupts and destroys it.

two classic WCCW matches that are must see.
Kevin Von Erich vs Chris Adams at the Cotton Bowl in 1984
-Adams solidifies his heel turn by hitting Kevin in the back of the head with a chair
