So, what's everyones thoughts on amiibo? Anyone got any? I'm pretty in to it. Not enough to pay the ridiculous prices scalpers ask but enough that I have a collection.

I think they look cool as piss. I wanna get them but knowing myself I would get really agitated and compelled to try and collect all of them, then frustrated when I inevitably do not accomplish this task.

Currently have none. I want to get a Mr. Game & Watch one though (he's my main in Smash). Dunno what other ones I'd be interested in getting.

Game and Watch comes with multiple poses so you can take out one pose from the base and put in another. Don't know if you knew that. He'll go instantly so you'd need to keep an eye out for preorders becoming available.

All amiibo are £10.99 direct from Nintendo. They're cycling through restocks now. I imagine Megaman will be available again next month.

Have avoided this trend in gaming despite REALLY being tempted by infinity when the Marvel stuff dropped. That Venom looks sick as fuck.

But Bowser is on sale for 6 bucks at my Walmart, and he looks awesome and I play as him in smash, so I am very likely going to jump on the amiibo train.

Probably going to get Fox just cause he looks rad as shit, and I imagine Star Fox will have some sort of amiibo feature. This is too big of a campaign for Nintendo's big shot first party titles not to.

Megaman is an absolute given.

Saw the Samus one on sale, but frankly it looks shitty. Boring pose and that whole metallic coating looks tacky. Gonna wait for a different one, or maybe pick up Zero Suit.

I'm thinking the amiibo quality is slipping. The first bunch I got were incredibly well done. The last few, since the restock, have seemed lighter, joins are visible and paint jobs are a little hit and miss.

The Fire Emblem amiibo will work in Super Mario Maker, turning Mario into the character you scan in when Mario gets a Mystery Mushroom. So if you want to see Robin or Lucina riding in a giant Kuribo's Shoe or Kuribo's Stiletto, nows you're chance.

Smash Bros wave 5B (Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Olimar, Dr. Mario, Bowser Jr.) comes out sometime in September.

Smash Bros wave 6 (ROB, Game & Watch, Duck Hunt, Falco, and the three Mii Fighters) comes out supposedly also in September.

The 8-bit Mario Maker amiibo come out 9/11.

The Skylanders Superchargers amiibo come out 9/20.

Animal Crossing Happy House Designer (the Animal Crossing cards) wave 1 comes out 9/25.

Chibi Robo on 10/9.

Yarn Yoshi series on 10/16.

Animal Crossing amiibo Festival wave 1 (I'm guessing these are actual amiibo figures instead of cards?) comes out sometime this holiday season.

No preorders. Orders will go live on 7/24, shipping same day.
On 7/22, Amazon will announce what time the orders will go live.
It will be sometime during "normal business hours". Their last amiibo sale was 2:30-6:30 pm PT, and this is likely to be around the same time.
Limited to 1 per customer. 1-Click buying will probably be disabled.
They have more stock than any previous amiibo. They're estimating that it'll take about 15 minutes to sell out.

On 7/22, we find out what time Palutena orders go up. On 7/24, we go on Amazon and buy Palutena. On 7/31, we line up at Best Buy to buy Dark Pit.

Current rumors are that each Best Buy will get around 100 Dark Pits.

I ordered Palutena and packaged it with some other common or uncommon on Amazon (Diddy Kong maybe? I forget) to get the free shipping. Might as well pay $30 for two instead of $20 for one where 1/4 of that is being paid for shipping.

Was at a con this weekend and expected more vendors to have some but only one guy really had any, and nothing special. But was charging above market price so eff that... $45 for Toon Link ain't my jam. Part of the fun for me is trying to get as many as I can for MSRP

GameStop in the US is supposedly doing pre-orders for the Retro 3 pack this Saturday. I asked my local EB where I preordered Mario Maker if they were and they didn't really have any info so I'm guessing not.

Really need to get me a Game & Watch amiibo. Don't think I'll buy 4 for all the different poses though :D

Gamestop confirmed rumors of them holding a special Amiibo event this weekend. Announcement was made by their official mobile app. May or may not require a Pro membership account in order to make a purchase but some stores might be requiring it.

While rumors and pamphlets have been circulating for an amiibo event on Saturday, now we have official confirmation by way of GameStop's mobile app (above). There's nothing up on the main site now but I expect there will be a full announcement soon. In short, stores will open one hour early on Saturday, at which point folks will have a chance to pre-order one "Retro 3-pack," which consists of R.O.B., Game & Watch, and Duck Hunt.

It doesn't seem like you need a Pro membership as rumors suggested, but rumblings are suggesting that some stores may require you to sign up at the time of purchase if you don't have one -- so budget accordingly just in case.

According to Walmart, Amiibo cards are currently expected to cost around $6 in the US. Each pack contains 6 cards with Animal Crossing being the first series available.

Dr. Mario amiibo rumored to be exclusive to Target while Bowser Jr rumored to be exclusive to Toys'R'Us.

Target hasn't officially confirmed that it'll be the only one carrying Dr. Mario, but it appeared in its inventory system when it hasn't shown up in any other stores'. In the past, that's been a flawless indicator of exclusivity.

Dr. Mario isn't the only figure for wave 5B that's looking to be an exclusive. There are rumors circulating that Bowser Jr. will only be available at Toys"R"Us. They both release on September 11 alongside Zero Suit Samus, Olimar, and Ganondorf from the Super Smash Bros. line.

Nintendo revealed dates for a few upcoming amiibo figurines.

Nintendo has shared some news with us in regards to some upcoming amiibo dates, which is always great. The Mii Fighter 3-pack will arrive on November 1, priced at $34.99. Additionally, Mewtwo will launch on November 13, and Falco will hit on November 20, both for $12.99.

In case you haven't heard, Mega Yarn Yoshi will be available on November 15 for $39.99. Yowza! Hopefully the 3-pack will be readily available -- I assume so, as the Mii Fighters are hardly in-demand commodity. Mewtwo on the other hand is ripe for an exclusivity deal.

Finally, Yoshi's Woolly World will indeed launch on October 16 in the US for $49.99, and you can spring for a bundle with a green Yoshi amiibo for $59.99. Green, pink, and blue amiibo variants will be sold on the same date for $16.99 each.

Could be a possible sign of future things from the retailer as Walmart decided they wanted to get in on the amibo scalping market with the Marth amiibo as a possible start. They got a new shipment of the figurine recently and deiced to hike the price to $28 each.

Ended up selling out almost as quickly as the first batch of the figurine.

They're just collectible Nintendo toys that add some functionality to certain games (mainly Smash Bros)

some of them are rarer than others... if you go into a Best Buy or Toys R Us etc in the video games section you'll probably see a wall full of Mario ones because they're super common, but probably not any, for example, Kirby

According to Nintendo, they are not manufacturing the Shovel Knight amiibo with Yacht Club in charge of almost everything for the figurine.

At PAX Prime 2015, Yacht Club games "Captain" Sean Velasco told Destructoid that Nintendo isn't actually making the Shovel Knight amiibo. The figure's production and distribution was left in the hands of Yacht Club, which is producing it in the same factory as Disney Infinity figures.

"We're basically licensing the amiibo technology from Nintendo, and they've been overseeing it every step of the way," Velasco said. "From the design, to how the amiibo functions in the game, to making sure that it was all just perfect in every way."

"But we're the ones that are dealing with the manufacturing and distribution, we're the ones that are talking with the toy and sculpture people. Even things like the packaging."

Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the Animal Crossing amiibo cards. Be strong.

100 cards are in Series 1 and they're being sold in packs of six for $5.99. Currently, Amazon is limiting orders to four packs per person, though that may change once the cards release on September 25, 2015 alongside Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

These will work with 3DS (if you have the NFC reader, or simply own a New 3DS) and Wii U.

Apparently Activision sort of forgot to include a nose for Bowser for the special Skylander amiibo. Also seems to be part of a wider problem with the current set of Skylanders figurines having defects or being poorly made.

How do these work with Super Mario Maker? Do they allow you to specify what you actually get out of the amiibo mushroom, rather than it just being random. Is there anything else you can do to get that?

Yep. So normally if you just select the Mystery Mushroom and place it in a block, it will choose a random costume. If you select the mushroom you can specify a specific costume you'd like it to choose, based on what you have available.

You can unlock all of the costumes normally through playing 100-Mario Challenge, the amiibo just gives you a quicker way to unlock specific ones.

No you should be able to even without any amiibo (i.e. if you've unlocked Shy Guy or the trampoline etc).

Not at my console right now but if I remember off the top of my head, you can place the Mystery Mushroom in the level (not in a block yet, just floating), then tap it once it's been placed and it will open up a screen of your available costumes, then you can drag it into a block etc.

Maybe it isn't a tap, maybe you have to shake it. The exact method is slipping my mind atm

Nintendo of America announced certain "rare" Amiibos will be getting restock shipments arriving soon.

Nintendo of America sent out a tweet today that said "Look who's back! Little Mac, Greninja, Shulk, Lucario, Fox & Captain Falcon will be restocked [at] select retailers soon." There's no word as to the quantity or time frame of the restock, but at least we know it's happening sometime.

Three of the six amiibo mentioned in the tweet are, up until this point, exclusives to specific retailers. That looks like it's set to change. This week, Greninja, Lucario, and Shulk have all appeared in Best Buy's system. This means that it seems as if exclusivity is timed or limited to a first run.

Japan exclusive for now but another wave of Amiibo figurines will be based on the Animal Crossing series.

Nintendo has revealed four new figures based on the Animal Crossing series for its amiibo toyline. The group, which includes Celeste, Mr. Resetti, Kicks, and Blathers, launches Dec. 17 in Japan.

There's currently no word on when we can expect to see these bad boys (and girl) in the West.

According to retailer leaks, the Shovel Knight amiibo is currently expected to arrive around January 8, 2016.
Best Buy and Target have both opened pages for the Shovel Knight amiibo with a release date of January 8, 2016; which will be perfect for all those day after Orthodox Christmas sales. As of right now you are not able to pre-order the figure at either site, but we'll let you know when you can. Or, we won't tell you, buy them all up ourselves and then sell them to you at an inflated rate. Because we're evil like that.

I nearly got some amiibos, and/or some Disney Infinity stuff, and it all looks great, but the aspect that you have to strive to get this plastic tat ultimately turns me off sadly. Running around like a flaming moron queueing up for a bit of rubbish, I can't bring myself to do it any more.

The first run ones are alright, but it seems like there's a big step up in style for the 2.0 ones. I'd say the super hero ones are a bit generic, the disney characters seem far more detailed, maybe because they're not as part of a playset they have to put more effort in to justify that character. The game are a mixed bag but I like the concept. Was able to pick up a bunch of different 1 and 2 sets for relatively low prices.

Gotta say, I'm wholly underwhelmed with getting all the Animal Crossing amiibo. Haven't bought any of them yet and going to take my time getting them. I don't believe any of them are particularly rare so I can wait on them.

Seeing that Gold Mario is getting restocked in Japan next month. Don't know if there's any plans to reprint it in North America, so this may be my only chance to get it at a somewhat reasonable price.

The mini-games stuff unlocks at a lot slower pace than in the Mario Party series. Think it only really starts to unlock after the 2nd or 3rd game played at least for free play mode.

Didn't watch all of Giantbomb's play of the game but seems like the biggest thing unlocked after playing the first time is just the ability to pick which month in a year a game takes place in.

Europe will be getting the Shovel Knight amiibo about a month before North America.

As announced on the Yacht Club Games site, the Shovel Knight amiibo will be launching in Europe first, with a release date of December 11 and a cost of €14.99 or £10.99. For those in North America, you’ll have to wait almost a month, as it is launching on January 8 for $12.99.

The decision to launch in North America later than Europe was apparently influenced by availability. Releasing in North America later gives them time to produce enough for them to be available, rather than rushing out an international launch during the holiday period and running out of stock.

The amiibo will unlock a ton of new content for Shovel Knight on Wii U and 3DS, such as the ability to make your own custom Knight and level them up through treasure and relics. Your knight will be playable on both Nintendo platforms, which handily means they’ll be compatible with the Wii U exclusive co-op mode, which is also unlocked by the amiibo.

If you’ve already played the main game to death, there will also be some new challenge maps. Five solo maps will be available for 3DS and Wii U, while the five co-op maps will only be available for Wii U.

The next wave of amiibo is set for January, and includes Lucas, Mr. Resetti, Blathers, Kicks, Celeste, and Shovel Knight (the latter of which launched this month in Europe).

One of the better-looking amiibo that has been revealed is the Wolf Link amiibo with Midna riding on his back. The problem is that since its announcement alongside a remaster of Twilight Princess, the amiibo has tethered to a bundled release of the game.

That's no longer the case, as Wolf Link has broken free from his shackles. Nintendo recently updated its product certificate site with a listing for an independent version for Wolf Link. However, there's no indication if the individual amiibo and the one bundled with the game will release at the same time.

Box for the Shovel Knight amiibo allows the ability to scan without taking the figurine out since Yacht Club wanted to please collectors and in a way help ensure more of the figurine would be available in stores.
Fans recently discovered that the Shovel Knight amiibo can be scanned through the box, and guess what -- Yacht Club Games actually did this by design. According to the developer, they obtained feedback from fans before the launch of the amiibo, noting that people wanted to be able to scan it through the box, so that's just what they did, and they don't plan on changing that policy. Interestingly, Nintendo doesn't adhere to this for the first-party amiibo line, but it might change its tune if people really take to it.

So why would anyone want to scan it through the box? Simple -- collectors. Collectors often like to keep their figures in the box, and now they can actually play with their toys without taking them out.

Ryu's amiibo appears to be getting released earlier than originally announced.

Two of the amiibo that are releasing in March are up for pre-order right now on Best Buy's website. Ryu and Famicom ROB are both available, but, like always, there's no telling how long they'll last. Logic would dictate that Ryu will be a pretty popular figure, given the crossover appeal to Street Fighter fans.

An interesting note is that Ryu's release date also seems to have been pushed up by ten days. It was originally listed as March 18, but Best Buy's site says it'll be available on March 8. Famicom ROB is still set for its original March 18 date.

Another pleasant development is that pre-ordering from Best Buy won't necessitate going to the store this time. The amiibo will ship to your house, and, in my case, for free. Not sure if it'll be that way for everyone.

Some details on what the Zelda series amiibo's will do for the upcoming Twilight Princess HD remake. Ganondorf amiibo basically acts as a new hard mode for the game.
The Twilight Princess remake looks as if it will have some amiibo functionality that's downright detrimental. Nintendo Inquirer is reporting that using the Ganondorf amiibo will cause the game to deal double damage. It makes sense given that Ganondorf is the series' long-standing antagonist.

At least the other amiibo are rumored to have positive properties. It's said that Link and Toon Link refill arrows, while Zelda and Sheik have healing effects. Wolf Link will have the greatest impact of all, as it adds an extra dungeon to the game, eventually rewarding the player with a wallet that holds 9,999 rupees

Nintendo revealed plans for a new amiibo figurine were recently scrapped due to legal concerns.

Star Fox Zero won’t be getting an amiibo of the series’ iconic Arwing, and according to the game’s producer, Shigeru Miyamoto, you have big government to thank for that.

“Unfortunately, we won’t be releasing an Arwing amiibo,” Miyamoto said in a translated interview with IGN. “We did have a few prototypes. There was an Arwing amiibo that transforms into the Walker, but we weren’t able to turn that into a product that could meet safety guidelines for children.”

The transforming amiibo design, mimicking the in-game Arwing’s ability to transform into a bipedal Walker, would have been the first of its kind, but apparently child endangerment isn’t worth the cost of making history. Even still, Miyamoto hinted that the transforming amiibo concept might resurface. “We had to give up on that idea, but maybe we’ll do something with it in the future. Who knows.”

naw, Nintendo of America has handled stock levels pretty bad all around. there's plenty of stock of a lot of the rarer ones in most European countries and even Japan (where Nintendo anything is exponentially more popular than in the US)

It seems easier here since Amazon and other suppliers can be more centralised. Yanks always seem a bit funny about ordering stuff from Amazon. It's also possible we have less scalpers here, but I dunno. As I said there were a shitload of Nesses in that shop I went to, maybe its luck.
