what

Has it been confirmed that it's based on OML?

Cause they can't use pretty much anyone from that.

He teased it at SDCC. "Old Man Logan, make of that what you will."

Will Banshee be in it?

I haven't really thought of that, but yeah. The whole plot revolved around MCU characters. They'd have to totally change it.

Like Civil War, you can work with what you have and keep the narrative theme of the story intact.

Civil War will just be smaller scale.

This? I'm not sure. Nevermind Hawkeye, his character can easily be replaced but it won't be easy with the whole redneck Hulk clan.

You understand that the point and spirit of a story isn't contingent on the actual characters? What matters is the themes of the story.

For instance, the Hulk clan can easily become a redneck clan who maintains the characteristics of the source characters. Or be omitted altogether.

I mean... how many times have we seen examples of adaptations working with what the studios had the rights to and adjusting as needed?

Old Man Logan, the story, is more important than certain character as they were in the comic. I'd argue that all story's can be retained despite having characters be who they were originally. It's how Shakespeare's stuff get retold without strictly keeping those original characters.

The only X-Men thing that's simply unfilmable based on character participation is AvX.

With different characters and a different story it's no longer Old Man Logan, it's just older Logan. But whatever, ain't gonna argue about this, because it's not important.

Thing is, I don't really see them going with it after all. But we shall see.

What is the Old Man Logan story? What characters can't be used?

There is plenty they can do with an old Man Logan, make the movie about lost honor and redemption. The movie opens with a montage of Logan mowing through various mutants, somne recognizable, some not cut to some tired, cranky old trapper out in the middle of nowhere trading in some furs, throw in a damsel in distress, add a bastard son and some other thugs like Wildchild, Scalphunter and maybe an Xman made reaver.

Villains rule the world, bla bla bla. Wolverine lives a quiet life in a land ruled by the Hulk clan (basically a bunch of incest-happy rednecks spawned from Hulk fucking his cousin). He's short on money, they demand the rent so he goes with Hawkeye on a trip to deliver a package. Only character I recall from this story they could actually use is Emma Frost, who shows up for only a few seconds.

Nothing how none of that story especially needs any Marvel Studios characters.

Like I said, fuck Hawkeye. Who you're gonna replace the Hulk with, though? Ben Grimm?

Any oppressive redneck would do. Just make one up.

Why cant there be the Hulk group? It is not like Hulk needs to be there leader right? Can't you just use She Hulk or something instead?

MCU owns the rights to anything Hulk-related.

All they could do'd be some kinda Hulk rip-off and they wouldn't even be able to use the word "Hulk", much like MCU can't use the word "mutant".

And a Hulk rip-off would probably be terrible. And they'd most likely get sued.

Ah. Always figured they worked under the same umbrella for some reason.

Yeah, but Origins more or less had THE SAME characters as the source story, and they still took that off the rails in the first 10 minutes (started with the climax, eliminated any "mystery" about Dog and Sabertooth being the same guy... in the movie's case, they were... downgraded Rose's impact and his "father figure" giving him his most notable quirks). I'm still hoping the new Deadpool movie writes the "Adamantium bullet" bullshit off as something Wade made up.

They can find some mutant analogues for the Hulk clan and anyone else they can't acknowledge in the X'verse and still tell the story well enough... if that's what they decide to do. They might even be going more for "The End" storyline. We shall see.

Let's never talk about Origins again, please.
