Holy Shit no way...this suuuuuuuuuuuucks big time. What a past couple of crazy weeks in WWE: People being fired and retiring, Miz doing the unthinkable on Tough Enough and saving Amanda who everybody expected to be eliminated, and now this.

I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Honestly, it shouldn't be terribly surprising with most guys from that era. But when they've got that "larger that life" persona, it's just surreal. Ugh.

Really sucks.

Out of all the legends who would occasionally appear, Piper was the one I always enjoyed the most. Not to mention all the stuff from when I was a kid, and later on in WCW vs Hogan.

He just had such a distinctive voice and character that no wrestler today can even come close to.

Damn. Woke up to this news, and it hurt. More than I thought it would. Piper was awesome at what he did. I legit, till the last last few years or so, didn't even know that his character was well, a character. It was all so brilliantly, and genuinely done that you just bought it, and believed it.

Roddy became a household name in the WWF. It was in Portland however where he truly began to become the legend we know today.

One thing I always respected about Roddy was he refused to wrestle on WWF cards in Oregon. He wouldn't compete with local promoter Don Owen who was like a father to him and gave him his first big break.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper shoots on newspaper columnist Steve Duin after the Oregonian writer attacks Portland Wrestling & the fans of professional wrestling.
<iframe width="480" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-JxFr1gakKU?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="480" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/c-PV4oFMle0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Roddy Piper attempts to prove that professional wrestling is no place for women by attacking lady wrestler Vicki Williams and forcibly throwing her out of the Crow's Nest
<iframe width="480" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l9308Vju1Cg?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Roddy Piper dogs both Buddy Rose and The Sheepherders
<iframe width="480" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6plRf2I7lyU?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Roddy Piper is ready to take "Nature Boy" Ric Flair's NWA World Heavyweight Title from around his waist in their upcoming championship match in the NWA Pacific Northwest territory

Despite being in the Christmas mood, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is all business when it comes to his upcoming Cage Match with vile Portland Wrestling villain "Playboy" Buddy Rose

Rousey has dedicated her match to Roddy. It's a relevant post.

They were also trained and mentored by the same man, Judo Gene Lebell.

http://m.fightland.vice.com/blog/rowdy-roddy-piper-talks-about-handing-his-nickname-over-to-ronda-rousey

Roddy Piper: I was trained by, at the time, the toughest man in the world. Not according to him, either. His name is “Judo” Gene Lebell and he trained Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris. He’s the godfather of MMA. He’s about 80 years old. He still has a dojo in Burbank. When I was 17, 18 years old [wrestling] in the Olympic Auditorium, I ran into him. I was getting beat up pretty good and he took me under his wing.

So then maybe a year ago-ish (my timing’s not great), Ronda and Gene called me. She was so, so excited and so beautiful, saying, “Would you mind? I’ll make you proud and I’m giving it everything you got.” And I said, “You go, gal. You go!”

Somebody asked me, “What would you think if ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey would become the face of the UFC?” I said I think it would be great. I think it would be a really great thing.

And “Judo” Gene Lebell, I don’t know if you know him. He got me in the very first movie I was in, too. He’s like my dad. I’ve been choked out many times by him.

it was a way to either end the feud or make it more heated.

My all time favorite match of his was against Greg Valentine at Starrcade '83.

the dog collar match between these two was so vicious and bloody. It was and still is one of my favorite all time matches.

Roddy Piper's death hit me a lot harder than Dusty's(no offense to the Legend), Roddy was on my T.V. all the time, following him to WCW and so on. Hell, I even watched his shit on TNA. He is one of the best heels that will ever grace a wrestling ring. I think it hit harder cause he was still booked to live another 20 years at least in everyone's minds. Dusty was a big dude and prone to health issues, but Roddy wasn't on the radar for any of that. I hope that dude does go on to live elsewhere. It'd be nice to see another Piper's Pit again.

Piper is the only old timer that, no matter how often he was used or how frequently they brought him back, he always delivered and never lost his appeal. Fan said it before, but has anyone ever been so despised only to be so loved as much as Piper? Every old WWF ppv I watch the fans are rabid for him when he's doing fucking color commentary.

Very, very sad sad. RIP Roddy.

Love that autograph story. My Uncle got me Pipers autograph on a business card, and I had it since I was a kid. Until a day my wallet fell in a puddle. I was so bummed about this. Not only did I lose one of the only things my Uncle ever got me, but to lose Pipers autograph was bad as well. I ended up getting it again though when I saw Piper at Axxcess.
