View Full Version : Bret Hart, crazy old man or the honest voice ?

Bret Hart has become known for being outspoken, going against the grain of what WWE wants to put out there. He speaks what many are cautious to say such as his commentary on HHH or calling Hulk Hogan a dirtbag.
In his senior years he has displayed that he gives no fucks when it comes to towing the company line of wwe.
Some of his greatest hits (2010 onwards) :
1. Eric bischoff is a stupid idiot
2. HHH is average at best
3. Hulk Hogan is a dirtbag
4. Daniel Bryan's career is over he just doesn't know it
5. Regarding TNA when bischoff and Hogan signed on : Hulh Hogan only knows how to make himself, and won't help the company
6. TNA is the home for WWE rejects
What are your opinions and thoughts on Bret Hart being so blunt (and most often so right ) about the wrestling business?
Respectfully,
The Mac

Bret was my hero growing up, but he has talked some shit in the last few years. Can't argue with some of it though.

Bret Hart is one of the best rasslers ever and he's right on everything except for HHH. HHH is a good rassler and his 45 min promos to start Raw back in the day were really excellent.
Refreshingly blunt. I agree with a lot of what he says, but you get the feeling the only thing he's ever critical about any more is Triple H. He's forgiven Vince and Shawn it seems, but you get the sense he sees HHH as a snake in the grass and just refuses to praise him.

Bret is smart but he was so far up his own ass back in the day.

Personally, I agree with him about most of his assessments. The HHH thing I don't really agree with and I could see how his involvement in Montreal could cloud his judgement of HHH.
I will also stipulate that Bret also has always been a big mark for himself. His in-ring work I think is without a doubt right up there with the best in history. I think he believes he was generally a much bigger deal, bigger draw and better on the mic than he actually was though.

I love Bret. He is one of my heroes. But I always do laugh how he'll always bring up examples of one of his storylines as an example of when wrestling was awesome. Though, most of the time it's because it was awesome. It's just hilarious because I went my whole life thinking I was #1 Bret Hart fan, but as it turns out, Bret Hart is #1 Bret Hart fan.
In saying that, most of his opinions hold salt. I'm in the same line of thinking of as hb2k, i think he sees HHH as a snake in the grass, and also just plain doesn't rate his work. I also don't particularly rate HHH's work. Don't get me wrong, has had some great moments, but jesus you have a decent enough worker and put him in HHH's spot, and let him fumble through all the shit, without taking away his push EVER, constantly keeping him strong, at some point, things they do will be good. Though this opinion is easily debated. Every other opinion I wouldn't exactly describe as controversial, but more pretty much common perceptions.

A little bit of both. Sometimes he veers a bit too much on the cranky old man with stuff he'd complain about while other times he's honest with his opinions to the point that if others said the same, they'd risk getting in trouble with the WWE or other wrestlers.
For example, him being blunt about his views of Hogan is stuff others share as their own views but either are seen as cranky old guys or wouldn't say it in public for fear of backlash or to be courteous.

Maybe he legit enjoys bitching and complaining? I know my wife does. Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.

He also thought Kevin Sullivan was a bad booker, which borders on insanity.

Well, he did have a stroke after having about a dozen concussions followed by hitting his head falling off his bike, so not too far fetched to think Bret's a bit off his rocker.

Hard to argue with most of his criticisms though.
He wasnt the first to say hhh was an average guy who got the opportunity to work with. One the surface it may sound harsh but there is some substance to what he has said.
For hogan, he has been proven right
Bichoff only had one good idea his whole career, the nwo.

Both classic stables.
I'll say this: I admire Bret's honesty and I think he'd be an incredible trainer.

just seems bitter that his career ended how it did. Understandable but at the same time it seems anytime he's interviewed its normally a bitchathon.

I think he's always been bitter. We just didn't have the benefit of the internets in 1989.

Askew of topic ,but..... let's say bret is never made world champ. Lets say he spends his career in the tag team and ic race his whole career, do you think he would be less critical and bitter? I sometimes think he believes his own hupe so much just because he was told he was leading the company

HHH has entertained me more then Bret the Whine ass Hart ever will.
Triple H only has a career because he was a tag-along to Shawn Michaels, then he banged the boss's daughter.
