Probably because it's predictable as shit.
Wrestling has always had predictable moments but when on this entire show you could pretty easily call just about everything that was gonna happen, it just becomes too much.

I can't go back and listen to it but I'm 99% sure it was Cole using his "vintage" catchphrase on a movie Seth Rollins has probably never done before.

The whole "ref takes ages to confirm the MITB holder is cashing in/official announcement needs to be made" thing has become such a staple of MITB. It's almost a given that everybody will have failed cash-in attempts numerous times before they actually do it.
Shame you can't just run out with your own ref who already knows what you're doing like with the Hardcore Title.

Why aren't they using sting for shield vs wyatts? Stupid
Because Vince hasn't made up his mind to use Sting or not. Wyatt Family was already supposed to have its new third member revealed by now in order for that to happen.

It was vintage Rollins because he stole his move. JBL kind of making fun of Cole but he used it right.

You mean like when Rollins cashed in on two opponents who were still down when the bell rung?
Evil Vito
08-10-2015, 11:37 PM
It's probably irrelevant anyway. The rules with MITB seem to change every year.
Theoretically everybody for the rest of time should cash in mid-match. But that just makes too much sense. So we can probably assume it's now disallowed. Until they decide to have someone do it again in a few years anyway.
#1-norm-fan
08-10-2015, 11:39 PM
The MITB match rules are pretty much whatever fits the moment. There's no logic or continuity behind anything about it. It's pretty silly. Even by wrestling standards.
Evil Vito
08-10-2015, 11:42 PM
I mean now that it's established that you can (or at least, could) cash in mid-match. Why the fuck NOT do that? There's guaranteed to be at least one moment in any title match where both guys are laying there gassed.
Simple Fan
08-10-2015, 11:42 PM
So it was Cole, then.
No it was JBL, he stole Cole's line as Rollins stole Orton's move.
Evil Vito
08-10-2015, 11:42 PM
It'd be like another team cashing in on the goal line of the Super Bowl vs. the Patriots (and they'd actually, you know, run the ball)

#1-norm-fan
08-11-2015, 12:14 AM
Like Droford knows that rule in the fine print of the MITB contract that says "the champion must be standing unless he is already in a match, at which point you can cash in on him standing or not."
Come on.
Droford

2013 Bryan never got up from HHH pedigree, but HHH was the ref and it was a screw job so..
2012 "the referee is doing his job making sure Del Rio is to his feet" cole as Ziggler cashed in but the ref waited to ring the bell
2011 - Big Show never got up as Daniel Bryan Pinned him
2011 - punk was starting to get up as the bell rang
2010 - Ref didn't signal for the bell til Jericho got up
2010 - Mysterio was up when Kane came down for the cash in
2010 - Orton was up for Miz's cash in
2009 - Hardy was to his feet
2008 - Edge was up before the bell rang
2007 - Taker was down when the bell rang but he kicked out of the pinfall attempt
2005 - Ref waited for Cena to get to his feet before he called for the bell on Edges cash in
Only 3 times did the ref not wait for the Champion to get up, and one of them was the HHH screwjob

lol Not even trying to be mean. I'm genuinely trying to figure out what the fuck is going on here.
Like... he started by stating that Rollins technically had to be on his feet for a cash-in.
Then he argued Vito's point by saying the rule was voided because he cashed in on a match that was already happening.
Now that last post just seems to be him saying it's not really a rule that has been followed in the first place. Almost like he's needlessly correcting himself now.
... This page of Droford posts is confusing as shit right now.

Now that I'm overthinking it, I CAN see how the "vintage" part sounds like it could be JBL. But the way he says "Rollins" is clearly in a Michael Cole cadence/voice. If it's JBL, it's an incredible impression.
#1-norm-fan
08-11-2015, 01:39 AM
Also, the fact that I still say it would be weird for JBL to say that at that moment makes me lean more toward Cole. Like... he's making fun of Cole saying it a lot by saying it in a moment where it doesn't make sense? And in the heat of a major moment in an important title match no less? Makes more sense that Cole's brain is on auto-pilot and "vintage ____" is what it's conditioned to say during any impact move whatsoever.

I don't think Droford yet understands that saying MitB can be cashed in any time means any time. Doesn't matter one lick if the champion is standing up or not...it is incumbent upon him to defend at all times his title.
If it were me and I were laid out and the briefcase holder came out and started a title match which I then lost by pinfall because of being out cold, oh well. The fact I lost the title is still my own damn fault.

In 3 of 5 instances minus the HHH incident when the Champion was down the ref waited to start the match until they were standing enough to break a 10 count in a last man standing match. The bigger surprise to me was number of cash ins where the champ was fully standing and waiting..

I only watched the ones that I knew would count. I really wanted to find clips of attempted cash ins where the champ was down like last night and the ref wouldn't start the match because of it, feel like I remember there's more examples of that happening.

Yep, throwing Barrett in there is weird. Sting is the vigilante, the Arrow is a vigilante it pretty much writes itself. Heel Sting could work, plus Neville and Stardust would work most the match.
