Lucha Underground had the conviction to go all-out with their ideas. Definitely one of the freshest products out there. I hope this season brings them success.

Being speculated Lucha Underground might be heading to more international markets since United Artists Media Group is handling distribution stuff for Season 2.

Season 1 was mostly limited to just North America for legal streams and tv channels.

So did they ever show what Dario's brother looked like?

Court Bauer has a new podcast up on MLW Radio where he and Alex Greenfield talk with Chris DeJoseph about Lucha Underground. Nothing groundbreaking, but they put over the LU product and it made me want to check out more.

Drago, I believe.

Probably no chance of this happening, but the idea of Kurt Angle being brought in by Dario Cuerto, with some kind of "old American hero looking at a chance to remind people how good he was" gimmick in LU would be kind of amazing.

Hope they got some good stuff planned for season 2 they went all out on season 1. The gimmick matches they put on are great and they got a great roster. Hope they can bring in Rey, it would help the promotion a lot and get slot more eyes on it.

Everything seems to point to Rey being involved.

Observer had both good and bad news about Season 2 for Lucha Underground. The good being them getting a second season and very close to getting a big deal done in Mexico. The bad being the budget is getting cut back a bit and might not tape as many episodes for this season. Also the biggest concern is the weakness of their US market that likely won't improve as long as they are on El Rey.

Lucha Underground announced on 9/21 that it will return for a second season, and that season will be taped at the same “Temple” in Los Angeles. The show is expected to go into production in December and start back on the El Rey Network in early 2016. There will be pre-production being done before December with some of the characters being brought in to shoot promos and vignettes. While not confirmed by people with the promotion and not announced, there has been at least rumors that the deal being put together has to do with television in Mexico. Lucha Underground had been in negotiations with Televisa Ch. 5 in Mexico, a strong network station that, if the deal is completed, would not only give them some financial help in funding another season, but also give them far more television exposure in Mexico than WWE, CMLL or AAA. The reports we have is that the budget will be decreased from the $400,000 per episode from the first season, but it will be in ways that won’t be noticeable.

As noted before and confirmed by the promotion, there was talk of moving the taping location due to cost, to either Texas or Mexico. One person involved with the company said that very little information has been talked about, but the belief is they won’t be taping as many shows as the 39 week first season. While a second season does buy them time, as far as U.S. growth, it’s still very limited with El Rey as the key platform, because of the limited penetration of the station and the limited amount of viewers who actually have the station and are aware they have it. Lucha Underground grew from a little over 20,000 viewers at the start to regularly doing 60,000 viewers on El Rey, with a few episodes topping 100,000. The Ultima Lucha two-hour season finale drew about 95,000 viewers. The show actually reached far more viewers on Unimas, in a Spanish language version, in a Saturday afternoon time slot.

I actually don't mind Lucha Underground cutting their number of episodes down. With it having more of a seasonal arc, it allows the stories to become even more succinct and easier for people to follow and digest. For purposes of people catching up, it also allows previous seasons (in the future) to appear less daunting in terms of re-visitation, if the product finds its way onto Netflix or a DVD/Blu-Ray format.

Yeah... went to go look at how many episodes were in the first season if I wanted to catch up.... saw how many and was like "screw that".

That was basically my feeling too.

Also, fewer episodes means that it's likely less talent will be used, not more. I'm not looking for anyone to lose their jobs, but it does save money and guys can be brought in later when there's room to give them proper attention. Maybe the guys not being used actively for storylines can work PWG and get used to working American crowds (if they are from Mexico).

Here are some additional details on the upcoming next season of Lucha Underground, including the news that Rey Mysterio is expected to sign with Lucha Underground soon. Per the report, the plan is to use Mysterio as the promotion’s top star in season two.

Both sides have been reportedly quiet on this front. Mysterio has not yet officially signed with the promotion, and it’s believed Lucha Underground is saving the announcement as a surprise for the show.

On top of that, former WWE Tough Enough contestant Martin Casaus is expected to get a bigger push in season two. He worked dark matches last year with former Olympian Jeff Cobb and will likely make his official debut with the promotion.

For the new season, Vampiro is reportedly being moved away from the announce team and will become the manager of Pentagon Jr.
