View Full Version : CM Punk
Originally, he was looking at a December 2015 UFC debut. Then his trainer said they were looking at "late spring" 2016. Apparently he recently picked up an injury which will set that back further, conveniently coinciding with a film he starts filming next month.
Is he actually ever going to fight?

He will fight some unknown scrub paid to lose.

I don't really know anything about UFC or MMA beyond the stuff everyone with a vague interest in the world knows, but is likely to be the same deal as Batista - aka fight a bum? Would it be best to put him in with a real name and guarantee some money rather than potentially fight and end up looking liking Batista did, thus killing any interest?

There is a chance that he never fights.

Just getting him in the octagon should generate interest, even if he goes against a jobber that's of similar skill level. The sell is just him fighting in that environment. At least for a quasi casual mma fan like myself.

He'll be back wrestling in 2-4 years.

Supposedly he will fight someone with "similar MMA experience". I was hoping for Kron Gracie, who is a BJJ Black Belt but has no MMA fights. It will prolly be something along those lines. UFC will not pit him against a can and I predict he loses his first fight. He is with a legit camp and Duke Rufus is a striking guru. He is training with former UFC and WEC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and former Bellator and current ONE FC Welterweight Champ and outstanding amateur wrestler Ben Askrin. He will draw the casual MMA/hardcore wrestling fans, which is his purpose. I predict he will fight two or three times, make some good money (I'm sure he'll get PPV points and his PPV will sell) and retire 1-2.
Whenever he fights, don't care if it's not until 2016 I will be excited to watch and see how he does.

It will be 2016. The injury is legit.

There is such a thing as out of sight, out of mind though. By the time 2016 rolls around, interest could be lost. It's a long time to be "inactive" with crowds and the like and still generate big interest.
Like Krispy says, he needs to go up against someone intriguing at this stage...and even a loss wouldn't be a disaster

Well they first said he was gonna train for a year which would his debut soon but the injury hindered him. He'll prolly start training camp early next year and fight in March. They might even put him on a nationally broadcasted FOX card which would get huge ratings. Knowing the Zuffa higher ups, they'll prolly make y'all pay for a PPV which I would buy anyway.

Before the move to MMA, Brock Lesnar's last appearance in WWE was March 14, 2004. His first appearance in UFC was February 2, 2008.
People didn't forget who he was and he would've been out of the spotlight roughly three times as long.

Brock was also trying out in the NFL and wrestling in Japan before going to UFC so he was staying in the spotlight a bit. I don't think the time off will effect the buy rate when he fights. People know who Punk is and when he does fight I'm sure it will be promoted like crazy.

Exactly. Punk wasn't really a big name. Lesnar was around during a time when WWE was awesome and the dude is a beast. Punk wasn't exactly a "draw."
There will be a bit of a buzz for him, but nowhere near Lesnar level.

Brock was a bigger name, bigger deal for the company, better background, and looked like a super hero.

I wasn't trying to say he will be anywhere near as big as Lesnar, but the simple fact that people who don't usually watch UFC are talking about him proves he will garner casual interest when he does fight.

Honestly, CM Punk will draw the same amount of people in if he fights tomorrow night or 6 months from now. Sure, some people will have forgotten about him but will remember who he is once the fight is being promoted.

"I'm bringing Mickey Gall in and he's gonna fight Michael Jackson, they're going to fight on the prelims on Feb. 6 on Fight Pass and if he wins that fight, Mickey Gall will fight CM Punk and CM Punk will be there at the fight to watch," White revealed.Mickey Gall will be KO'd when Michael Jackson hits him with his patented "Crotch Grab and Kick" maneuver.
would love this guy to win and for Dana to book Punk vs. Gall on the main card of UFC 200 just to hear the absolute shitfit some of the knuckledraggers would have http://www.tpwwforums.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
