Monty “Billy Gunn” Sopp was fired by WWE on Friday due to testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone in a powerlifting meet on July 25.
Gunn’s drug test at the meet came up with a 37-1 testosterone/epitestosterone ratio, which was well over the 4-1 limit. Due to the failure, he was suspended from powerlifting for four years. WWE officials were not aware of him competing as a powerlifter, or his suspension from the sport, until a few weeks ago.
The 52-year-old former tag team champion has been working as a trainer for WWE since 2012. He had a short main roster comeback with partner Road Dogg in early 2013, but has mainly been working with the NXT brand. He did occasional appearances on the NXT house shows in Florida, and also appeared on television as one of the trainers on Tough Enough and Breaking Ground.
As noted, WWE officials were not aware of him competing as a powerlifter until a few weeks ago or his suspension from that sport.

Billy Gunn has been fired. Thoughts?

I didn't know Testosterone was illegal, must be some high level stuff. I use those T products you can get from the grocery store and use it for a month or so, doesn't really do much for me if my body is producing enough, but w/e he's using must be top notch.

I think WWE is way too over the top firing people. They will bring him back eventually. It is just this whole PC mentality. Fired today, bring back tomorrow.

What is Testos Sterone doing in the Impact Zone!?

I'm surprised he was fired considering it wasn't even used within the context of his WWE role.

I mean, okay, perhaps it "reflects badly on the product" or whatever, but who, outside of the IWC, even knows or cares about Billy Gunn working as a trainer?

Just all seems a bit odd, but whatever I don't really care, and he'll be back eventually anyway so whatever.

For Testosterone? Firing him may be a bit much.

In any case its time for Dolph and his father to have the "do as I say not as I do" talk.

Was a bad decision to hide stuff from the WWE since they have auto-fire rules against that for a while. Him getting busted for drugs makes them look bad by association especially for something they had no clue about so it makes sense he got the boot.

I feel suspending him for what he did outside of the company would have been a better start. Consider it part of the three strikes wellness policy? Dunno.

Still, sucks that he lost his job over this.

Billy Gunn is undoubtedly the best wrestler to never win the big one. Much better than 99-100% of the current roster

It was probably more the fact he didn't tell WWE about it that caused him to get fired. He failed the test months ago and they only just found out about it.
